No Surprise here this is another picked fight for Canelo Alvarez for sure, but even though this is a cherry-picked fight for Canelo Alvarez this is a great opportunity for John Ryder to prove himself even further because even if he didn't win this fight but he has shown great performance and make this fight a gruesome one for Canelo Alvarez I really think that will favor many viewers for him and as we all know that Alvarez is near his hanging of the gloves but this is surely for Canelo Alvarez to tuned himself or this match will serve as another sparring partner for him,
Not sure if Canelo Alvarez's retirement is already that near not unless he will finish all the fights queued for him especially his rematch against Bivol because he's still enjoying his career and he is still young enough to start considering when to hang up his gloves as he is still 32 years old. But for John Ryder, this is a good opportunity for him to showcase his skills and he should take advantage of this because not everyone has the chance to fight Canelo Alvarez. If it weren't because of his injury, Ryder will not have this chance, so at least he should make this fight interesting enough if he cannot really defeat the current undisputed champion.

But we can not say for sure as what we have seen in the recent fight for Zhilei Zhang vs Joe Joyce it was a cherry-picked fight for Joyce and it really bite them back harder than Concreate, it was really an upset for Joyce and could be a potential downhill for his career, now underestimating an opponent is surely not a good move and for this Alvarez vs Ryder fight it could happen again but let's just way this will be fewer days for it to start so for me let's just enjoy it,
Ryder is full of confidence going into this fight, and he said that Canelo and his camp shouldn't sleep on him. As we or maybe him included has been hearing about Canelo rematching Bivol or even inserting David Benadivez name in the mix.

As if they are overlooking him in this fight and that he will just be another name in Canelo's resume.

So we shall see how tough Ryder is. Because amongst the British fighter that Canelo fought, no one last the full distance.

With my concern John Ryder had the huge opportunity to win the game, but if they play without seriousness. We can’t assure anything towards the game of win. To make some good results, Ryder should consider the weak opponent as the strong opponent. It’s essential one to consider the opponent as stronger one to us. Because by the move our brain will work faster and Ryder may win the Match with K.O in a short period of time. When you think about the Canelo, his game was good for now. But his game was not that much good like Ryder. If the Canelo had planned the new strategy against the Ryder may be the match may change to other form. We can expect the new result that favour Canelo. Some people have their prayers for the Canelo as compared to the John Ryder.

John Ryder should able to utilize the advantage he got because he have the height and reach advantage which should be enough to outbox Canelo if he can't knock him out. Apart from that, withstanding and weathering those punches from the champion would be a big help for Ryder to maintain his scores. To think, John Ryder is somehow lucky because he got a good 4K clip from the Canelo vs Bivol fight which should give him some points to consider on how to outsmart Canelo and second, Canelo came from a surgery which is possibly a good thing on his side.
Canelo's height is 5 ft 8+1⁄2 in while Ryder's height is 5 ft 9 in, Canelo reach is 70+1⁄2 in while Ryder's height is 72 in, that's not a big difference. It's really depends on Ryder's strategy in the ring, he need to able to receive all damage using his shoulder and being aggressive. That's what most boxers can't do it because Canelo's punch is strong and hurt too, but Bivol physical appearance and body are more stronger.

Ryder were struggling when he fought a boxer which previously has been defeated by Canelo, so that's not make me convinced to see Ryder pull an upset.

Either way, that is still an advantage and I do agree that John Ryder should make use of what he got because even the slightest difference can still be a big help for someone like Ryder who is named as a heavy underdog in this fight. If he wanted to win this fight to give himself a good opportunity in the future, he should be smart enough to use whatever he got.

Anyway, that shoulder roll will not help Ryder in his case because Canelo already figured out a way how to counter it as he learned that lesson expensively as that specific style gave him his first defeat from the famous boxer who mastered the shoulder roll or known as the Philly Shell, Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Message @Hhampuz if you are looking for a CM!

Doesn't need to be a KO, what John Ryder needs is to have most scores in his favor in almost every round where the judges might want to help Canelo but their hands are tied because people knows who's the winner, just like what Bivol did to Canelo as he didn't KOd Canelo but he proved that won most of those rounds. I think there's a chance, although, that's very likely because of the fact that this is just a tune-up fight.

It's logical to think that he can't really do that because Canelo is at another level compared to him and the only problem with Canelo is when he slacks and does not get serious just because his opponent seems a nobody compared to him and that will rise a problem against him because this guy is no doubt has been practicing a lot just to prove himself and take that chance to elevate his popularity overnight just like Bivol and Canelo should not underestimate him if he wants to keep his current glory active because John is also a power puncher and the chance to knock him out is still there.

It is early to say that John Ryder can't touch Canelo.  If John Ryder is able to resist the strong punches of Canelo, then what @Japinat stated is possible.  So if John Ryder wanted to win against Canelo, he should KO Canelo (this is the most convincing way) if not then he needs to be:

  • tough to withstand strong punches from Canelo and box with him all throughout the rounds
  • he should make clear that he throw and landed more punches than Canelo
  • if he can't knock out Canelo, he should try to outsmart and outbox him.

If John Ryder failed to make a convincing performance and the fight is close, he might lose the match even if he is leading due to the "judge favorite" factor.

Few more weeks to go and we will see Canelo Alvarez again fighting and defending his throne in the ring after the surgery which made him rest for a few couple of months.

Despite the fact that many people believed that John Ryder isn't as good as Canelo's recent opponents, I do think that he will be a good test for Canelo's wrist if it's indeed working perfectly fine after he got it fixed.

And regarding John Ryder, he said that this might be his last fight.

Quote
Ryder will be turning 35 years old in July, and he’s not a spring chicken any longer. If he loses to Canelo, this is probably the last chance he’ll get to fight for another world title before he ages out and is too old to work his way back into another mandatory spot.
https://www.boxingnews24.com/2023/04/john-ryder-might-retire-if-loses-to-canelo-alvarez/

He knows it, this will be his last ticket and probably his biggest payday before he retires. So we can say that he is very lucky to be given this chance by Eddie Hearns before he exit.

Any boxer though will be real test for Canelo's wrist, even if sparring or in the body bag, he will have the feel whether it is 100% pain free now or not. But most likely it has healed already and Canelo ready to give his fans in Mexico a good fight against Ryder. Hopefully Ryder too will give his best and not just take a dive in this fight.

Nah mate, sparring or punching a body bag isn't the same as having a proper official fight. We won't be calling it as a sparring fight if that is the same as a real fight where you're records are at stake and where you have a legit opponent because in sparring, everything has a limit and it's up to the coach if he will call it a day or not. But in the fight, there's no such thing as that because the boxer will be fighting until he win or gets defeated.

About John Ryder, perhaps this is indeed his last fight before he hangs his gloves and I agree that this fight is a good exit for him as aside from the honor of fighting the likes of Canelo, he will also have a good payday because it will be a sold out fight for sure especially because this fight will happen in Mexico.

Perhaps he will bet on Ryder, we don't know. But for those who have been following Canelo's career, obviously he will be the smart bet here, but not ML. We should look for value for our money in this fight.
Yeah, I think the chance for Canelo to win via decision is higher than Canelo to win via knockout since Ryder get knocked out was on 2015, it's already 2023 so he must be have train his body. When Canelo fight with a quite good boxers, he can via KO at late round e.g. 11th round, so it just depends on which odds is higher, either Canelo win via decision or Canelo to win at 10-12 round.

I agree, there's a good chance that this fight will end by a way of decision in-favor of Canelo Alvarez considering that Canelo is still observing his wrist after it got repaired. We can say that it's not yet at its full power as his camp are still observing what would happen and its effect into Canelo, so yes, they won't be chasing for KO this time but if there's a chance, why not as that will end the fight much earlier and would favor them much.

Just too unfortunate for John Ryder, not underestimating but he's just there to be Canelo's testing ground. No offense to his fans, just a pure thought though.

Ryder game was unique one compared to Bivol an Canelo.Ryder has huge support among the betting gambling player as compared to Bivol and Canelo. But with the Fortunes to Bivol against Canelo and Canelo had huge responsibility towards the game to prove his strength to his supporters.Canelo is not the potential less player, may be as compared to Ryder his strength will be low.Because Ryder experience dominates the rest of the two players in the list.Ryder was expected player to get the best results of this three list.Ryder had a chance to win the matches by declaring Knockout against the Canelo in the upcoming match.

What do you mean that he had a huge support from the betting public? Smart money will not go to John Ryder, he is not known to casual fans and to US betting public which I think the biggest supporter of Canelo. Yeah, maybe in UK he will have some support from bettors, but it will not be enough to offset to make the odds even close.

Ryder doesn't have the experience either, and some of the best fighters in his resume, Canelo already beat them.

Yes, Ryder has a chance to win, everybody does against Canelo, but I think it will be slim as he doesn't have the tools like Bivol has.

We should look for value for our money in this fight.  We can't count Ryder out, he has a chance, but it's very small. So if we know that his chances are not so good, then it will be just a waste of money to bet on him. And if we talk about Ryder experience, let's look at his resume, he lost to Callum Smith, which Canelo  beat and took Smith WBA and WBC super middleweight belt. Ryder also lost to Rocky Fielding, which Canelo destroyed in Fielding in 3 rounds with four knockdown/knockout. And so we can say that they are not on the same level as far as skills and even in experience.

I also think that majority of bettor will choose Canelo, I also don't think that many known Ryder besides looking at Ryder's record, I do not feel comfortable betting on him.  I also think that he does not have the materials needed to beat Alvarez.

I think Ryder does have the experience but those experience are not enough to cover the lack of ability in beating Alvarez.  So I think this fight will be an easy fight for Alvarez because he has fought many boxers that is better than Ryder and beat them all.

The Mexico match was the long waited match for the Canelo fans, they had some good Spirit for the Canelo as compared to the Ryder. But as we know Ryder is experienced player with huge number of matches in the past history.Bivol already beat the Canelo in the league,So Canelo try to discontinue his fight against Ryder. But as we know Ryder was experienced player compared to the Canelo, the game will be favourable to Ryder in the Mexico.

I agree, defeating Alvarez will be a huge accomplishment for Ryder.  He doesn't need to win via KO just a plain winning, may it be a split decision or majority decision is enough to boost the career of Ryder.  But of course, if Ryder won via KO that will not only make a statement but an exclamation and make a huge uproar of his career.

Take note mate, when fighting Canelo Alvarez, don't expect that scorecard will be favored his opponent unless a clear win per round is really shown like what happened when Canelo fights Dmitry Bivol where the latter clearly won most rounds as judges won't be able to even attempt to make some cheating where Bivol is really the clear winner on those rounds.

A split decision in favor of Ryder is absolutely impossible to happen, believed me. The only sequence that will make Ryder a winner is, if he will have the same performance as Bivol did against Canelo, or if Ryder will find a way to Knock Out Canelo. No other way.

And that's where corruption or least biased judging from the judges comes in. Canelo is the cash cow of boxing so they don't want him to lose, simply as that. Even in the GGG fight, in the first fight, clearly it was GGG that should have won that, but there was one judges who score it 118-110? what the hell is that scoring if not maybe the judges is in the payroll?

Anyhow, we know that Ryder chances are very slim, unless he really won via KO which is impossible to happen as Canelo also had a granite chin.
I also think this way, I know that technically Ryder could try to win and defeat Canelo just as Bivol did, however the difference is that this fight is going to happen at Mexico and we know that in the past judges have helped Canelo, and the example you bring forward is very clear about this, so I think this is going to be even worse as he is fighting at his country and I really think the only way for Ryder to win is by delivering a KO to Canelo.
