but I will still argue that it was not a lucky punch, there is simply too much evidence against that idea, Marquez was able to even KO his sparrings while training that punch so to me it was a strategy that he used to lure Manny in and deliver a fantastic KO.

For those who says that was a lucky punch knows nothing about boxing. Marquez has been training himself primarily to be the best counter puncher. That KO he did to Manny was his perfect counter punch from his whole career. It was perfectly timed and perfectly land to a wide open Manny's face. We all know Manny has a strong jaw and won't get easily rocked by solid punch in the face, but that was totally unexpected.

Both will stand up til the end, this "exhibition match" is probably scripted.  Grin

Not really scripted but it's more of something you see in a sparring match, these two boxers are never involved in a scripted match in their whole career and they are still physically fit, we will see something like the Tyson Jones match and it will probably end up in a draw, we will not see a brawl, something they are used to in their boxing days, it will be more of a technical fight.

Well we can't be certain that this will not be scripted.

Just like what you have said, Tyson was the heavy favourite in the fight, unfortunately, the judges seems to collude with themselves and let the fight be scored by a draw when obviously we saw that Tyson is winning. So let's see, let's hope that Cotto and Marquez will try to fight it out till the last one and no draw from the judges.

I saw that fight and I do not see how people can say that it was a lucky punch, there is footage of Marquez training that particular punch against their sparrings, Pacquiao had already fell before that punch in a previous round and you can see that Marquez is specifically waiting for Manny to come to him and try to deliver that punch, it was not a lucky punch it was a successful strategy that was implemented perfectly at the right place and the right time.
Maybe it was a lucky punch in the sense that Marquez was already losing the fight but he was able to do the right timing to KO Pacman. If Pacman was more careful and he did not go for a kill instead, that would give an easy win for him as he was faster and stronger than Marquez, but things happened, no excuses and we have to give that win whether by luck or not.
I will give you that, Marquez won the first rounds but then Pacquiao made a comeback, however it was obvious that he was in way better shape than Marquez as Pacquiao already won that round as well, however he was aggressive but as we know that is one of the characteristics that makes Pacquiao such a great fighter, Marquez was able to take advantage of this and used that aggressivity against him and was able to knock him out with a single punch.

Such incident where fans really got disappointed with how the outcome went, It's all on Pacquaio
but that lucky punched landed in the right place. He won the game and it will never be forgotten.

Moving back to this fight, both are great warriors way back they've got their own era and beat those ass whoever opponent they've faced.

Let's see who's going to stand up with this exhibition fight.
If the fight had lasted until the last round I have no doubts that Manny would have won as he was in a way better physical shape than Marquez before he received that punch, but we know that in boxing anything can happen which is why it is so exciting to watch, but I will still argue that it was not a lucky punch, there is simply too much evidence against that idea, Marquez was able to even KO his sparrings while training that punch so to me it was a strategy that he used to lure Manny in and deliver a fantastic KO.
It wasnt really a lucky punch and its just an excuse or some reasoning that it was indeed a fluke but its not because Marquez wont really be reaching out  his reputation, fame and popularity
if he doesnt have its own weapon or something up into his sleeve then he wont go that far into his boxing career.
Okay lets move on about those past fights and stick into this exhibition which is no doubt that performance will be entirely different compared when they are still into their prime.
Im not expecting that much that they would really be giving out their best on knocking out each other.

Hmmm.. am I being too harsh? lol.. yeah, maybe you are right, pardon me.

I just don't feel this fight would be as good as the expectation of some that they'll see the same boxers that has fought Manny Pacquioa.
At least we should not expect a lot, an exhibition fight is usually for fun, it's like an NBA all star with lack of defense or no defense at all.

Not scripted but rather those punches werent really be going serious. All the thing they would just do is to punch up and bring entertainment. This isnt something similar into those

punches that a fighter been looking or been hunger for a belt or for an official winning stat or score. This is why i dont really expect much when it comes to these exhibition fights where
nothing specially specially these both fighters are already retired and already past to their prime.

Take for example on that Roy and Tyson exhibition fight which i cant really feel up the thrill or excitement.

That was probably the best win of Marquez over Pacquiao, he did not fight Pacquiao after that so he end up as a winner, but I think people doesn't think that way, though it was accepted that Pacquiao loss but Pacquiao is one of the all time great in boxing, Marquez is not even close.

But lets just see this fight for sure will give a time to watch this bout since this two fighter are quite good opponent of Pacman.

Fans would easily remember these two fighters as two great opponent of Pacman, particularly Marquez where he fought a series of fight but in the end it was Marquez who won but just due to a lucky punch, a one time punch KO. Some even say that Marquez is a coward for not giving Pacman a chance for a rematch even if he was offered with big money.

Seriously, they're going to have an exhibition match? these fighters had a match with Pacquiao before and that's good to see that they'll be having their exhibition match.
I guess other retired players can still go back into the ring if they want to just for an exhibition.

If they still want to dance in the Ring and they still have those bodies that can take some power punches, why not. After all, these guys are one of the best fighters of their time. Now that they want to try again in the ring as an entertainer, then they need to give their best since their fight is not free to watch. I think more of those boxers who still in the shape to box will gonna have their exhibition match after this fight. The outcome of this fight will result in their decision whether they coming back or not.

I don't think so mate, this is jus an exhibition match AKA money making scheme for retired boxers and not a gauge for them to come back to competitive boxing.
Yes, again Floyd and then Tyson vs Jones. Now boxers are making this exhibition match to make money and I doubt that either Cotto or Marquez will come out of retirement is this pandemic boxing era.

I just don't know what got into them but this series of exhibition match is making boxing looks like a circus and i don't think that we deserve this one as hardcore fan of boxing.
Well it's a business when boxing started to have boxing promoters like Don King and Bob Arum. Although we have seen a lot of good fights, yet there could be a lot of good fights that could have happen if not for the epidemic.

they are picking the boxers who had accomplished greatness in the past and have huge fans that are willing to pay to watch them for an exhibition fight. Tyson has the biggest fan of all i guess. this is just for money ofc as it's business for arum and king. there is no belt involve here. but then they have to make money for there is the need to. if they could just make the Pacquiao vs Marquez fight possible, they will do it to make money. sadly Marquez isn't going to give Pacquiao a chance.

They can comeback anytime as long as there's a good offer but this has nothing to do with Manny, and there's also a lot of exhibition match before just like on Floyd, that match still generate money for them a great way for the pros to still make money despite of their retirement. Mix match are also rising, looks like this is a new trend on making easy money for a boxer and an MMA fighter.
I'm only telling that both fighters had a match with Pacquiao before and we all knew about it. Yeah, about Floyd, that seem to be his income generating machine and there's still a demand from his fans to watch his fans because he's controversial.
I guess this is going to be the new trend these days, retired boxers would have a match with another retired one.

Easy money but the level of competition is going down, we as a fans who paid money to enjoy deserve better, so they better stop this exhibition fight as there are lots of real fights that deserves to sell to the public or the fans.

I agree that money is still a thing for this match and such exhibitions will make them more money. And while there's still a pandemic, this is very necessary for them to earn more although I don't know how much wealth they have and what's their current life status and situation.

They are taking advantage on the popularity of the exhibition fights, well, it could be without a crowd but they'll still be happy with the result as this is just an exhibition fight. I guess it started with Tyson vs Jones Jr, they make some good money, and now these retired greats are trying to play around on the trend.
I think it was Floyd who popularized this kind of exhibition match. But Tyson and Jones Jr was the one to take it one step as they created a lot of hype because they are legendary boxers. And now Cotto vs Marquez, two warriors wanted to get in the fun in the pandemic and raise some good money.

Besides, they are still fresh from retirement, unlike Tyson and Jones. Maybe Cotto and Marquez can still fight and who will forget his knockout of Manny Pacquiao. Having fun and making money its definitely a win win for them.

Maybe he was but I don't really count Floyd to take care of his reputation as this man knows nothing but money. I'm just surprise that after Tyson vs Jones, we now see Cotto vs Marquez which I thought would just leave boxing to enjoy the retirement, but here they come, trying to milk some money.

Yup, while their popularity is still there they have to advantage of it to make money which they can no longer do that when they become older.
This is like an enjoyment to them while making money and the passion is still there, they really are lucky and fortunate to have such opportunities during this pandemic.
