Is this their strategy or Magsayo couldn't really get the required weight in the first weigh in?
Time to see how he will perform on this fight, if he really needs to move up weight to accommodate the comfort zone of his body.
Checking the video they are not faking it, Magsayo is over by one pound, and it's not easy for a boxer to drain himself one pound is a big concern I have seen fighters pass out because of trying to lose half a pound so it's not a strategy and if its a strategy it's a bad strategy, you can do a lot of strategies but never about cutting weight, its something that could backfire in the actual fight, but I'm glad that Magsayo finally nails it in two hours, he might have gone through a lot trying to lose that one pound excess.

Good for him but I'd say not good enough because that's already a sign that in the next coming fights, his weight will start to add up and probably won't make the desired weight even if they will force it. After the fight, whether if it's a win or lose, they should start to consider some things like moving up to the next weight class so that they can avoid wasting some precious times.

I hope that the incident of too much weight will be taken note of in the future fight of Magsayo.

Almost a 1 pound increase to the required catchweight is not good. It's not also a good idea to just moved up weight since he will meet Foster there who beat the one who take the title from him, Rey Vargas. If he can't able to match with Vargas, then no room for him to face Foster at 130.

Anyways, before talking with the moved-up, let's wait for the result first of this match between Magsayo and Figueroa.

Few more hours and we will witness if Magsayo can indeed beat Figueroa. The odds are good if you bet on him.
The weight issues should not be there in the first place, so now, wondering how Magsayo's camp is prepared for this fight?

Indeed, for sure many Filipino boxing fans are waiting for this big fight because we want Magsayo to win that belt and put us in the map again. Same with Brandon, he is looking for this big win, so I really do expect that this fight is going to be a war.

As I have reported, Mark comes in overweight, but it might be just a miscalculation on their part and not pulling some stunt as Filipinos are not known to do that. Based on the odds, everyone is almost picking on Bradon Figueroa to win, but no matter what, we will support our very own Mark Magsayo and it's good that he is the underdog, ML is already a good bet for us.

Worthy bets for Mark Magsayo especially to those who will disregard the statistics but rather will just focus on and support him being a fellow Filipino.

Although I don't understand why the odds turned distant, I believed that the real deal will just be witnessed once they clashed.

Magsayo to win the match: @3.2
Magsayo to win via Knock Out: @5.8
Magsayo to win via Decision: @6.4

Around less than 7 hours to go before the big night although as usual, the start of the main event depends on how long the undercard fights will last.

Burning over a pound within just 2 hours is not that easy to do. I wonder why there's a struggle where in fact, the Featherweight division @ 126 lbs is Magsayo's comfort weight class and this is the first time he was over the required weight although not that much.

Hopefully, after the weigh-in, he will just use his time to just relax and eat what he wants. No need to do some light training as after weigh-in, the relaxed state of mind is the one that needs to be prioritized.

As with many Pinoys here, I will support Magsayo to win the fight.

Magsayo though misses the weight limit the first time,

Not a good sign, he will be given additional hours to make the weight and make the weight, but at this point he will be weight drain and maybe it's time for him to move up in weight already.

But to be fair, both didn't look good at all in the weigh-in, I mean seems that Brandon and Mark is draining themselves hard for this fight.

they should be prepared on this. so they know their respective weights come the weigh in event. let us see if he can attain the required weight or will their camp let this pass thru? because if Magsayo will be having hard time to achieve the weight, would be hard for him inside the ring if he feels he's drained not only physically but mentally as he goes thru the process of losing a lil bit more to get the weight.

He already made the weight on the second attempt, but as you have said, it doesn't look professional on the camp of Magsayo not making the weight it first time. Although it's just 0.8 lbs over and not that huge, and so he easily make it with some minutes left on the timer.

So know that everything is set, again as I have said, they didn't look good, but they can go back and rehydrate themselves back. A few pounds maybe, and let's see how much they are going to gain in the actual fight night.

For now, let's enjoy the fight. Still rooting for my fellow countryman despite the unfortunate news.

On the other side, Magsayo has been winning and fighting year to year. Absolutely no stopping him! Aside from his one recent loss, his track record is way better. Obviously he is going to win this fight with certainty.

He lost though so he is stop on his track, so both are coming from a lost, and so the winner will obviously bounce back with a big win here.

I would be happy if Magsayo wins this match. He is listed as the underdog, so for us bettors, this is a great opportunity to bet and make a decent return if Magsayo does indeed win. However, I would not say 'certainly' because Magsayo has not been that impressive in his previous fights, even in fights that he has won. Therefore, I want to see a major improvement, a matured Magsayo that knows how to time his opponent to win.

He needed that adjustment to impress more fans, especially in winning this fight. You are right for those who will back him up the odds is decent it's a matter of trust to the fighter you wanted to win.

Let see if how things will come out when these two fighters will start throwing their solid punches,
it's more on how you idolize and believe the fighter that you think will win.

A few hours to go the awaited time will come and these two fighter will try thier best to win this fight in order to prove to us that they are the one and the champion of the featherweights divisions.
For me ill go for magsayo no matter what happens I will support my fellow countrymen and no need to adjust because magsayo has a good strategy aggressive and defensive once his aggressive moves won't click then he has a counter punch start and defensive start.

out of curiosity just checked the odds again on Stake.com and sportsbet.io and the odds haven't changed since febuary 20. both websites have the same odds for the match, Figueroa 1.36 - Magsayo 3.10.

anyway, do you guys know a website that will live stream this fight for free? I'd like to watch it live but don't want to spend money on PPV.

I'm always lucky to watch big fights on Facebook just use the search bar and type the name of the fighters then add the word live you will find a lot of live telecasts but they cover the fight from time to time, to avoid taking down, but since Magnayo is the one fighting you will see a lot of Filipinos live streaming it safely, the streamers ask for donations for the live stream I sometimes donate a small amount if I see the streamer is protecting the live stream from being taken down.
from my past experience, the majority of them usually tells you to click on the link they shared(which I don't do) but thanks! gonna try and look later.

I'd assume they could gain weight up to 10 pounds after the weigh-ins, from what I've read it's the most common max weight a boxer could gain after their weigh-in.

I agree mate, we will back up Magsayo here, I think it was just a bad and nightmare match up against Rey Vargas, but in this case if he will face a brawler, he has a good chance to get that one hit he needed to score a knockout.

So it's good if we are going to bet on Mark as he is a huge underdog. 3:1 is not that bad for us for a win. Yes, for sure he has learn a lot from his lost against Vargas and could improved a lot in this fight.

I think it's just normal though for this boxers to look skinny and thin and dehydrated because of the weight class that they are in?

And of course, they have 24 hours to get back all the weight, (all fluid) and be ready for tomorrow's night fight. Maybe gain 5 lbs or more, eat healthy foods to gain the muscle and then go all in for this very important fight for this two fighters.

I guess recovery is the best thing to happen for a boxer after draining their body to qualify for the weigh in. Get enough rest and get a good food before the fight, their body is gonna have a great energy in the next day.
I'm always curious about the fighter's lifestyle, coz they're punishing their body excessively and avoid unhealthy but delicious foods as a preparation for an upcoming fight. Maybe after the fight, some fighters will get a little bit out of shape, but still manage to get back again when they get another schedule. That's something I admire about their self discipline.

Boxing is one of the difficult sports because you have to deal with the weight, that is why those who are not active for a long time need more time to fully conditioned their body, top calibers boxers hire body conditioning and nutritionist to keep the mind and body in almost perfect condition before and after the fight, the corners and the conditioning team are very important for a boxer's success because boxing is a multi-million dollar profession they need to hire these people for peak performance.

Every boxer needs support, but that also depends on their budget. It's good if they are working with a great promoter, as they might be able to help provide everything they need. Yes, it's a multi-million dollar profession, but you will only feel that if you are already a successful boxer. Mayweather is a good example. He amassed his fortune in boxing, earning over a hundred million dollars as an active boxer. Now that he has retired and focused on his promotion, he is still making a lot of money.

That is true, they can do all the hard work and training, but if they don't know how to control their weight then everything will be put out of the window. Just like what happen to John Riel Casimero, he can't make the desired 118 lbs, he become sick and still in his next fight it's hard for his body to squeeze on that weight.

For Magsayo though, yes, it's just less than a lbs so he can just sweat it out, no problem. But if it 1 lbs or more, it might be very difficult and it might take a tool on him if he lost minerals and vitamins on that stretch.

Be it less than a pound or more but the essence here is that he doesn't get his goal to be on weight when the weigh-in comes. Some said that being overweight and drained later could have an effect on his strength which I think is the only advantage he had in this fight so if that happens then Mark Magsayo is bound to lose, not a good start for him.

This is a sign that Mark should go up in weight if ever he could overcome this hurdle.

The conditioning coach and their nutritionist will play a very important role to get back in shape looking at the two fighters at the weigh-in both are drained as if no fats are stored in their skinny bodies Cheesy the weigh-in is one of the hardest parts in the preparation for the fight, if you're going to miss the weight it should be within reach of the targeted weight because you cannot take out more weights at a limited period of time, I'm glad Magsayo hit the weight so we have a match and this is going to be very excited.
