The good thing about Magsayo is that he is not into talking or getting in someone's to destroy his psyche, he just let his actions do the talking instead of having so much exposure and underestimating his opponents. This time he is against a Mexican boxer who also didn't tasted any loss in his whole career, Magsayo surely knows the gravity of what Vargas can do especially that the latter have that height and reach advantage.

For me, this is just another good matchup for him and since he is now fighting in the US, he needs to consider working hard and he needs to beat the like of Vargas in an easy way but we all know that it would not be the case if he struggled to beat his last opponent with injury. Who knows maybe he already improved after that because it's just some kind of unexpected turn of events when he was expected to win easily with his opponent suffering from an arm injury. Right now he needs to wake up and use every fight as an opportunity to showcase his skills and how strong he is.
That should be the correct mindset for any boxers specially Filipinos who are reeling from the retirement of Manny Pacquiao. Manny has set the blue print already it's just a matter of time boxers like Magsayo following his footsteps for greatness. So not to underestimate any of his opponents and on the contrary focuses on training and doing the hard work.

Pacquaio is the inspiration of Filipino boxers so for sure those existing champions are trying to reach what he achieve on his career and its good that there are so many potential Filipino fighters that can possibly reached up on what he reached on his career and what Magsayo needs to do is to finish this fight in impressive way so that he can catch the attention of global crowds and get more hype under his name to get more bigger match.

A huge inspiration because he is the most successful boxer in the Philippine history. Magsayo works with Pacman promotion until now if I'm not mistaken,  so he will get the best advise from the legend, and since Pacman loss in the election, he will have more time in the sports now.

Manny, when he was still in his prime, is always pushing himself, that's why he achieve success and made history. Now, for Magsayo, he only achieves a little and I believe he can still improve his record and probably move to the heavier weight once he successfully defeats his belt. To be in the list of pound for pound is a huge achievement, and that would only happen if Magsayo keeps winning and keep moving as well.

but what do you think will be the odds here? i think, magsayo may be a lil bit favourite here as he is the title holder and vargas is a challenger. though we have seen the odds between canelo and bivol, where canelo is the heavy favourite even if he is the challenger, making bivol the underdog. so let's see what odds they will give on this match.

It should be Magsayo as a Favorite but I can't find a source yet. Much younger than 5 years than Vargas, currently in prime, undefeated, a champion, I know Vargas is a big name but Magsayo should be able to handle him contrary to what others are expecting.

But I wouldn't be surprised if Magsayo turns out to be the underdog here. Vargas is a former bantamweight champion, and he is a Mexican, with no losses. So maybe sport bookies will put some weight on this one.

Nevertheless, I agree that Magsayo has the skills to bet anyone in his decision. Although Russell is not 100% in their fight, still that is a big win for him and should raise his stock more.

Anyway, on that Canelo vs Bivol, the reason why Canelo becomes a favorite even as a challenger is because of the former's being an undisputed champion entering the light heavyweight compared to Bivol prior he faced Canelo, he is just doing a title defense.

Magsayo should be prepared enough for this battle so that he could have a chance to win. Although surely he would do that because the fight is still far ahead. Hopefully, his team would focus on his weaknesses to be able to improve it. His footworks, speed, and precision must be taken into consideration knowing his opponent is also a challenging one. This match would be something to look forward to most especially for their fans.

It's hard to think that Maysayo won't prepare enough for this match.

He will surely dedicate all his time and effort to become much stronger on the day of the fight. He is getting new achievements in every fight and that's because of his seriousness in training while at the same time, putting a 100% dedication to winning.

As I previously said, just wait guys until Magsayo destroys Vargas on the ring.

I'm sure he can defend his title and will remove the doubts of anyone about his strength.

He is a humble fighter though he loves his friend Casimero who is a known trash talker, good thing he did not learn how to trash-talk. Magsayo just needs to continue training, and improve what needs to improve so he will be able to win his first title defense.

This cannot be neglected, relying on his power alone might not help him win the fight.

A match that would matter for Mark. A title defense that he might able to pass it to Rey. I'm not saying he'll lose but this is going to be a tough match for him.
Since Rey is taller, there's already the advantage for this match on him and well, if this is already on the contract being signed. Mark should plan well in defeating Rey and defending his title.

Agree. Magsayo should conduct a thorough training in order to be in par with Vargas. The former might have no losses yet, but if he will be complacent in this upcoming match, he could have his first loss to Vargas. Like what you mentioned, Vargas' built is much better than Magsayo which could be his losing end in this game given the Vargas is taller, he could aim at him at longer distance.

Magsayo already is holding the championship belt, he should defend it against anyone who would try to steal that from him. He has a lot of lapses in his previous fights, he need to keep his defense but most importantly is quickness has to improve so he will be able to hit his opponent.

No question, he already got the power and the stamina, but quickness has to be developed.

i have the feeling that bookies will slightly favour vargas when it comes to odds. even if magsayo won the last fight, still not enough for him to have a very good edge on this match. this will test magsayo's boxing skills and not just wait for the time to KO an opponent. magsayo is younger but there were so many fights that proved that age doesn't matter inside the ring.

For bettors like me that looking forward to Magsayo winning the match, it will be an advantage for me if the bookies will favor Vargas to win the fight.

There is no way I will put a bet on Vargas even how strong he is and looked by the majority as the dominant fighter over Magsayo. I believe in Magsayo's skill and for sure, once they clash in the ring, there will be lots of adjustments that Magsayo will do.

I don't want to based on Magsayo's previous performance against Gary Russell and speculate what will happen in his next fight. That was not appropriate for me as a good basis to analyze the result of this match.

Both have been winning several fights in the ring but i think Vargas will be the favorite for this fight since he has a lot and much better experiences than Magsayo. The only thing that Magsayo made an advantage is that he's younger than Vargas, but let's see if he can beat Vargas through KO using his body speed and punching skills. Yes, if he won't improve this time, Vargas will be the champion and will move up to the next level, leaving him being defeated.

Magsayo is the champion and Vargas is the challenger. Is that true that the champion is the underdog here?

This is unusual to see for me as what we always see is, that the challenger is always the underdog. I also don't buy the reason that Vargas has a lot of experience making him the favorite to win the fight.

I recognized Varga's strength but he is overrated for me here in this thread. Just wait until Magsayo shut down Vargas. I believed in that. Smiley

Hopefully, Magsayo's skills is enough to put a stop on Vargas so that we see an upset and win as underdog betting on Magsayo.

We want to see a best version of Magsayo in this fight because the Mexican has power too and that Magsayo should show not only his punching power, but he could play defense as well. What I'm saying its that a complete package, good boxing IQ is needed to beat a fighter that is taller than you.

Rey Vargas has a very good record, https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/542148
35 wins and 22 of that are coming from KO. That was impressive.

Honestly, I don't trust Magsayo completely in this fight as I was a bit disappointed with the way he fight in his previous fight although he won. I don't know this Vargas but if Magsayo will not improve his style, I think he will experience his first defeat.

It's hard for magsayo to defeat Vargas into knockout because we all know that the veteran Vargas will not easy to knockdown. They are also the same both fighters are strong and good enough to give us a good and exciting fight.  I will agree with what you are saying since magsayo is younger than Vargas it's a big advantage for him in this fight but still we can not predict who is the winner because these two boxers doing great in their carrer.

No odds yet released by sport bookies, the fight is still going to happen in the next couple of months.

If might be because Vargas is well-known and is the bigger boxer between the two that will put him as the odds favorite against Magsayo. But we all know that Mark has the skills to offset that advantage so it will be good if he will be the underdog so that those who are going to support him will have a good win if ever he "upset" Vargas.
