Honestly, I don't trust Magsayo completely in this fight as I was a bit disappointed with the way he fight in his previous fight although he won. I don't know this Vargas but if Magsayo will not improve his style, I think he will experience his first defeat.
i agree, it seems his performance is getting worse not the same before and he was just lucky enough that he won on the previous fight.
For me surely vargas just want to take this opportunity before moving up, because he knows mark magasayo is easy for him, and yes if magsayo didn't improve his style and performance, in my view this match would be his worst nightmare.

I'm not sure the word "easy" is the right thing to use, that would not happen here, if Vargas will win, for sure Magsayo will give him a good fight. Well, I don't want to be bias so I think Magsayo chance to win here is not as high as the betting odds.

It seems in paper, this could be a very difficult fight for another Filipino boxer. His Mexican opponent is good, no doubt about it. But one thing that can you say about Filipino's is that they have a big heart. So I'm expecting that Mark will give everything in this fight, he might fall short though against Vargas. But who knows, maybe he will bring his A game and knock out this dude out.
Indeed, he has a big heart because he beat Ceja although he was struggling and in the next fight he beat Russell but people are telling he won because Gary Allen Russell Jr was injured, so it's his time to prove now and he has to beat the challenger to clear the doubts of some people about his capability as a champion.

No odds yet for this fight but i think Rey Vargas will be the favorite so this could be exciting for Filipino fight fans.

They both have a great boxing record and it looks like Magsayo is on a big risk here on losing the title.
This is his first match to defend it, and the first challenger is so great Vargas can be a big favorite here considering his previous matches.
No odds yet but I will still god for Magsayo here despite of his performance on his last match, this can be more exciting and Magsayo should be more ready this time, this can be a classic Filipino vs Mexican match up.

Message @Hhampuz if you are looking for a CM!
For sure the odds are not yet available because this fight will be on July.

Looking at their record, the challenger has better experience compared to Magsayo so I expect this as a good challenge for the champ.
It wasn't an easy for Magsayo to be a champion, so I hope he will successfully defend his title.

My prediction here is Magsayo winning by KO again, if he could not KO his opponent, I'm afraid he will lose.

both have great boxing records they both are undefeated. i think magsayo will win this fight still. he beats his opponents every time and he is still young. sakalam din si vargas kahit mukhang tukmulin and maybe because he has to go up to 126lbs he'd find it not easy in the division.

So the cooking of this fight now turned into the official one. I think it was February or March when this idea was planned but I'm just waiting for the official announcement since there are other names too involved during that time.

Moving forward, as others also mentioned, it will be a good fight to watch although we need to wait 3 months. Well then, time flies fast like how we wait on previous big fights we watched.

Seeing the Tale of the tape, I don't see who has the upper hand in this fight. We can't really take that previous fight by Magsayo as a big reason to think that he can't match this undefeated fighter, same as his. More analysis will come as the fight approaches.

The thing with Vargas, he has defended his WBC super bantamweight belt five times before deciding to move up in weight to face Magsayo which could make him the favorite to win this fight in the bookies IMO.
What's the natural weight of this guy?

He is at age 31 now, I think 122 is his natural weight class because he could have moved up at an early age if he is a natural 126 weight class.

He could be more skilled but moving up may weaken his power punches and speed. Not to mention his stamina

I don't think the punching power will weaken if one is to move up, but rather naturally heavier opponent has more resistance to it.  And yes it makes sense that Vargas will move slower due to added masses (weight gain) unless he gets used to the weight before the fight commence.

I have seen one of Magsayo's fight before. I think he still lacks in the skills department but his punches has real power. He was losing that fight but he only needed one or two punches to KO his opponent.

Yeah, Magsayo indeed has real power but often times he makes himself open to a counter attack when he throws punches.

A tough challenge by both boxers - Mark Magsayo is against a tough opponent from the Bantamweight while Rey Vargas is up against a Champion.

Well, since Magsayo's performance when he got the belt isn't that convincing, he needs to win this fight to prove that he is really a "Champion".  I hope Magsayo's camp comes up with a really good training routines and strategy  on this.  Sorry for that, being a Filipino makes me partially biased in wishing who will win the fight.

A tough challenge by both boxers - Mark Magsayo is against a tough opponent from the Bantamweight while Rey Vargas is up against a Champion.

Both have a clean record and I can't say who has the advantage. Referring to their previous fight is not enough as once these both boxers clash, it will depend on how tough they are in the ring. Adjustments, strategies, keys to winning anything else will surely be applied by both.

I see this fight won't end up much in the wide gap of odds. I'm seeing the odds for them will be slightly close.

I can give emphasis on this"

Whether he can be a force at 126 is anyone’s guess, but he’s a legitimate challenger.

We all know that Vargas dominated the 122 weight but at 126, we aren't sure if his boxing power will be that effective.  Not only that it is also a test for Vargas if he can absorb punches from a naturally heavier opponent.

We might see Vargas' performance is quite convincing that he has the advantage but there are other factors that affect the fight especially when one is going up in weight class.

A match that would matter for Mark. A title defense that he might able to pass it to Rey. I'm not saying he'll lose but this is going to be a tough match for him.
Since Rey is taller, there's already the advantage for this match on him and well, if this is already on the contract being signed. Mark should plan well in defeating Rey and defending his title.

Mark Magsayo was faced right away by a good challenger. Rey Vargas almost dominates the Bantamweight but I wonder why he didn't cross the line to face the other good boxers in their weight class like Naoya Inoue. Maybe Vargas thinks it's time now to test his strength in the Featherweight and the task is to snatch the WBC title from Mark Magsayo.

Magsayo's previous fight against the handicapped Russell might not be a convincing win because of the latter's shoulder injury but we can't really say that if the latter is not injured, Magsayon won't adjust.

This is going to be a great title match.

Are the odds already available?

Per my favorite bookies, not yet but definitely this will be covered.

Same here. Magsayo got a lot of help from luck  Grin for me because if Russell was not injured the outcome could be different on that night but Magsayo might have reviewed the tape and for sure they will adjust on what's need to be done against this taller and dangerous Rey Vargas.

You own the pen
Looks like they wanted to further increase Mark Magsayo's popularity in the USA with this fight since his last fight was not really satisfying but fighting a healthy Rey Vargas may test his current boxing skills at their max capacity because Vargas is not just an easy opponent rather it can score against him a devastating knockout so Magsayo better not to slow himself against him because he might be in trouble if he gets caught by those ferocious power punch by Vargas.

Nothing yet on my bookies and sites that I frequent, but my guess, Vargas would be the favorite against Magsayo.

Magsayo is a good boxer and knows how to move around the ring. He's still very agile and knows when to throw punches--a disciplined boxer if you may. But I agree, that fight against Russell Jr. isn't something that you want to see from him. Perhaps he became too confident? But idk. He handled that pretty good, but not as good as he used to on other fights that he had.

A skip for me. Not sure how good Vargas is, but from their overall statistics, Vargas has the overall physical advantage.

Rey Vargas has a very good record, https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/542148
35 wins and 22 of that are coming from KO. That was impressive.

Mark Magsayo will have the first defense of his WBC Featherweight title against undefeated and taller Rey Vargas.

The thing with Vargas, he has defended his WBC super bantamweight belt five times before deciding to move up in weight to face Magsayo which could make him the favorite to win this fight in the bookies IMO.

No odds yet for this fight but i think Rey Vargas will be the favorite so this could be exciting for Filipino fight fans.
