Are the odds already available?

Rey Vargas has a very good record, https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/542148
35 wins and 22 of that are coming from KO. That was impressive.

Honestly, I don't trust Magsayo completely in this fight as I was a bit disappointed with the way he fight in his previous fight although he won. I don't know this Vargas but if Magsayo will not improve his style, I think he will experience his first defeat.
Vargas has more experience than Magsayo so this alone has put Vargas into an advantage from this fight. However, both boxers have been good in winning from KO so if Magsayo will manage to stop the fight through KO, he will probably win this game. But seeing how he fought with his last opponents, his boxing skills is not as good and impressive as how Vargas manage to win in the ring. So i'd go with Vargas this time.

Yeah, maybe Magsayo might regret his decision to fight Vargas. One thing though, Magsayo is very ambitious, saw some clips in Youtube and him and Roach are really targeting a unification in this division. So the chances for Magsayo might be slim because Vargas is a high level fighter. And we can do is that Magsayo will prepare a good game plan how to offset Vargas because based on reach and height, Vargas has the advantage.

Well, fighting against a great fighter is not something you'll have to regret, instead that's an honour. Win or lose that's actually an honour.
Every fighter always have ambition and If they didn't do something about it, that ambition will just stay ambition.
Coach Roach knew how to upset a stronger opponent. So, we better watch out the fight.
Not only that because aside from the experience, Vargas also have the height and reach advantage but coach Freddie Roach knew how to deal with opponents like that so I can assume that Magsayo still have a chance against the much experienced Mexican fighter. Either way, fighting against a great fighter is a much needed because of the experience afterwards and there's no telling that Vargas really have the card after all.

I guess that's what Filipino wanted to be, a underdog and then show the world what they can do, LOL.

We might not like how Magsayo won against Russell because the latter in injured, but that is still a win for Magsayo. On the contrary, I don't think that this is going to be a hard fought match for Magsayo, I will be betting for him if he will be the underdog in this fight.

Yeah! it's still a win for him and let's hope that if he ever wins this upcoming fight, he will gonna show different skills that will gonna make the audience remember how he wins it. As we all know, he is not that known in the US yet because he hasn't shown more fights that we have witnessed in the Pacquiao era, though it's hard to copy how Pacquiao's boxing journey was in the USA, Magsayo needs to work hard to create his legacy as well while he still has a chance because an opportunity like this has not been given to the other Pilipino boxers who has some real boxing skills until they retired.
Well, I clearly understand the point you are referring to, I know that there is a lack of flavor for many fans, I know that Magsayo's way of winning is not what many wanted, but it is as I sometimes say, if he wins, then they win, in the history will show who won, not if he was close to winning or that the opponent was injured, it will only appear that he won, now well against Vargas it is understood that Magsayo can show that he can do it and win, if he manages to do it, I think the possibilities for him They will continue to open, in fact he is already opening doors and that is why I think he already has this fight, so I think he is on the right track.

That's the good side now because coach Freddie Roach is handling him closely just like Manny Pacquiao was when he was still starting to build his career in the international level. It's totally fine that they are not impressed by Mark Magsayo because they didn't saw him improved like we did because their eyes is set to other boxers as well, just let them see the weaknesses of Magsayo because eventually he will be known in the industry and defeat bigger names along the road.

More importantly, Magsayo's performance against Gary Russell Jr. shouldn't be the main reference to how he will perform in this upcoming fight against Rey Vargas.

It's not that, at 100%, we can see the same performance done by Magsayo against Russell in this fight against Vargas. Boxers are changing tactics depending on their situation in the ring. Sometimes, there are strategies that will just think automatically by these boxers that are not done in the training. That's why there is a thing called "adjustment".

Mark Magsayo should already know the drill better than us. If others still insist that Magsayo might have a hard time dealing with Vargas since they are not impressed with his performance against Russell, you have to think twice or so be it and wait for this fight to happen.

I agree about that, his performance against Gary Russell Jr. should be the main reference alone as he's still continuing to improve even from that fight. Even Russell Jr. wasn't on his A-game that time that's why people keeps on saying that Magsayo could've knock him down that easily because his opponent is having a hard time. Magsayo is not done too with his career as he is still starting to build his name around the world, not now ofcourse but people will start to know him more as years goes by, I believe that.

It will still be a long journey for him but I'm sure that he could reach Manny's success if he will continue to make his country proud by being dedicated to each fight.
Every boxer dedicates their fight to their country as they are carrying their flag, for Filipino boxers, it's our pride to see a champion fighting, we all have our support but sometimes we cannot avoid from seeing their weakness as well, that is being realistic despite of our support and it's good so that the boxer would know what he has to improve.

I'm sure the camp of Magsayo knows that there are fans that was not impress with his past fights, so hopefully that would motivate Magsayo to improve and deliver a very convincing win.

With coach Freddie Roach as his trainer, fans of Mark Magsayo can be assured that they are going to do what is needed to win his first ever title defense against this dangerous opponent.

For those who are not impressed with Mark's performance against Russell, they should take a closer look at how Magsayo evolved into a better boxer and gave his best to win that belt. He may have weaknesses but we know that their camp is working that and they too study the tape of their opponent so they can exploit Vargas' weakness.

Rey Vargas mostly had the physical advantage
I disagree, I think Magsayo being the heavier boxer has the physical advantage.  Vargas has the reach advantage
Pretty much Vargas has the height and reaches advantage but Magsayo got the strength and punching power, what I mean, by that advantage, and yeah Mark Magsayo may be heavier than Rey Vargas and has the experience, but Magsayo is younger and has that Attitude of never backing down that is why he is so successful in this sports, he is really focused in doing this,
By far, this might be the biggest fight of Mark Magsayo because his opponent Rey Vargas has the reach and height advantage as well as the experience inside the ring as the latter has already 35 bouts with the same KO chances of Magsayo. But yes I agree that Magsayo have that power and strength needed to take down Vargas this July. As I'm looking into Vargas's history, he didn't got any TKO or KO in the last 5 years and that really means something this time.

It is obvious that this is not going to be a picnic for Magsayo.

Vargas is a very good contender and might possibly dethrone Magsayo if Magsayo slacks.

Magsayo though should include head movement in this fight. I've noticed that it was not present during the Russell match, he choses to go and bang with Gary.

This had been his fighting style and his mannerism of not using head movement that much in a fight especially when initiating the attack.  This will be one important thing he should cover or else, the possibility of him kissing the canvas will increase greatly.

But this time it will be a different fighter. Vargas is a brawler too, so Magsayo should go with the body in the beginning, side to side movement so that he will be unpredictable in this fight.

I think it is better for Magsayo to throw punches to both head and body whichever is open. This way defender will have a hard time blocking punches.

Based on what I'm seeing in Vargas past and latest fight this guy is a big challenge to Magsayo, this guy is tall and he takes advantage of his height and reach advantages over all of his opponents, he also has power, it's going to be a tall order for Magsayo and this is a fight that will test Magsayo.
Magsayo's chance of winning the fight is if he can KO his opponent, and if Vargas knows how to use his height advantage, the fight will not favor Magsayo as he doesn't have a good boxing skills like other technical boxers who can still win even if they cannot KO their opponent.

I don't want to judge early, but this is one of the fights which I believe the champion will struggle a bit against the challenger.

as others are predicting about the odds of this fight. bookies may indeed favour vargas here. but maybe the gap is not that far. so let's wait how bookies will give odds to this match. but magsayo is definitely not in the position to take this fight lightly. he should prepare as much as he can. vargas is a great challenger for his belt. good choice for both promoters.

I guess the younger Magsayo even though without any physical advantage
Huh Huh Huh

Pretty much just like what I have said on the top, Mark Magsayo is younger than Vargas, I don't say younger is a good thing, and Vargas doesn't have the drive to win anymore but after that recovery he surely miss how to fight and Magsayo, I think is ready for it,

-snip-

He is a legit fighter because he is currently the champion, however, he still needs to improve because his wins are not too impressive and for him to gain the respect of the boxing community, he has to win convincingly. Well, winning by KO is pretty convincing, therefore he has to go with a KO win against Vargas.

Rey Vargas is the underdog, but I believe that this underdog is going to give Magsayo a problem, I'd love to be wrong though.

Yup! being a champion can surely make you feel unbeatable, from that title alone any fighter can buff up and can have a mental capability that he can surely win, his mental awareness will surely catch up to his physical strength, surely Magsayo is undefeated that would surely add to his motivation to not lose in this fight and currently, maybe Vargas could be a difficult opponent but the level of mentality can surely add to winning in this fight.

Vargas is doing the same thing but when they fight in the ring it will be the fighter's skills and power that will play a big factor, Mike Tyson's popular quote

Nothing can reach the achievement of Manny Pacman, becoming an 8th-time division champion is no joke, not even the popular boxer can achieve that soon. Filipino boxers are good, Magsayo is good but he is not as good as Manny Pacman, we have to accept the reality, though let's still give him a chance to prove himself and maybe he'll go up in weight someday and he'll achieve, who knows, but I doubt.

Why compare Magsayo to Pacquiao? Of course, he is different. Is Magsayo not allowed to create his own path and journey? Why there's need of comparing him to Pacquiao in terms of achievements? Let's not discuss it here as that's not even the topic.

Pacquiao is different, Donaire is different, Magsayo is different and every PH boxers have their own chapter. No room for comparing here.

Back to topic, are odds already out? While doing backread, why Magsayo, the Champions, seems like the underdog here just because others are not satisfied with his fight against Russel Jr. Is that the basis now of being an underdog, or bookies already released the odds?

Pacquiao is indeed a boxing legend and the inspiration of new Filipino boxers. We couldn't compare Magsayo to him because Magsayo is still putting up a good name and foundation in this field. He still has a lot to go through just like what Manny did before. It will still be a long journey for him but I'm sure that he could reach Manny's success if he will continue to make his country proud by being dedicated to each fight.

Mark Magsayo's fight with Gary Russell Jr. was a splendid fight, maybe they are really pushing Mark Magsayo to stardom just like Manny Pacquiao, The Flash Donaire, and John Riel Casimero so much and with his current opponent now Rey Vargas mostly had the physical advantage I really think the younger Magsayo will come up victorious here because I think he surely had that Gary Russell Jr, fight even though winning it with a Decision it is a Majority Decision, I really think that Rey Vargas could surely put a decent fight with Magsayo having an undefeated record truly is a remarkable trait but I guess the younger Magsayo even though without any physical advantage sure still have the style and mentality to win the fight, and sometimes their age can have sure have some impact on this, and Mark Magsayo is undated as well this could be his drive-in not letting anyone to tainted that, and as a Filipino I will support fellow countrymen,
Lot's of people really compares Magsayo to the top Filipino boxer which I don't doubt at all because Magsayo is indeed a great boxer as well and he already prove his worth on many ways, his last match is a good one because he won and we should stick to that and don't expect that much. With regards to Vargas, he's a great contender as well and Magsayo should not be complacent because Vargas has a very killer instinct, he can explode as well and this match is really exciting.
Magsayo already prove that he is the pride of all Filipino and not just it, he is also a good boxer tough and disciplined without a doubt he can win against vargas all he need is to study the movement and strategy of vargas in order to counter it and claim the victory maybe he can win but not just an easy one because his opponent is not like other boxer he already defeat but vargas will prove too that he is strong and became a champion .
