Another great Filipino boxer to face a great boxer too, they both undefeated and its good to see Magsayo will defend his title against a great boxer too. We might not satisfied the way Magsayo fight on his previous match but still, he’s a good one and most probably he will do everything to remain undefeated and defend his title. This is an exciting match for this year, I’ll cheer for Magsayo on this.
Many are disappointed on his previous match simply because he didn’t finish the fight with a KO considering his 16 KOs record, and that is the standard of many but still he won and he did his best on that match and that is what matter to him. Looking forward for his up coming match against Vargas, I think this will be a hard one since he’s undefeated too and with a record of 22 KOs. So this can be another match that many will expect a KO, this can be a huge pressure for both boxer.

Actually, if both fighters often have KOs on their previous matches, it is unlikely that this fight would end up in a KO unless one is way greater and stronger than the other. 67% and 63% KO rate are pretty much close and would just be a balanced fight that might also end up having the same strength -- hence lesser chance of knock outs. But yeah, Magsayo really had been judged by so many of how he didn't had any knockouts recently but that doesn't mean he can't right now. Vargas, on the other hand, is the one to adjust on the weight requirement in this fight, hence more challenge for him other than the fact that he will be challenged by a reigning champion on that weight category. I still won't talk too much on whom is better than the other, their trainings still must be considered for a win bet.

Magsayo steps up to the ring and faces the undefeated boxer with a record of 35 wins with 22 KOs in his career it's a big fight for magsayo even though they are both undefeated Magsayo has a chance of losing if he will not practicing hard and improve his skills cause we all know that Vargas is very tough man that can carry all the punches by his opponent and while has strategic move he can adjust his style during the fight .

There is no doubt that Rey Vargas will be the favorite of this fight in the eyes of the bookmakers. Above all, he has much more experience than Mark Magsayo. I'm sure the odds for Magsayo will be very low, so if someone likes the risk and believes in the surprises then can bet on him, but in my opinion result of this fight is quite predictable.

This is a fight to mark the date, I like Magsayo's style he is considered to be the next Pacquiao,  I doubt if he can achieve what Pacquiao has achieved but if he is going to trail Pacquiao's trail this is where he should start against a formidable champion

Filipino are hoping for that but looking at his performance, he is far from being the next Manny.  He has lots of missing qualities to be one.

it's not going to be an easy fight both fighters will prepare for this fight.

If Magsayo's camp prepares well for this fight, I think there is a better chance for him to win the fight.  The reason is that he is at his prime, a heavier puncher, he is at his domain (weight class category), and has good stamina.  I also think Magsayo can take Vargas' power punches. The only shortcoming is that Vargas has a longer reach.

Btw, if you are wondering.. here is their tale of the tape

The thing with Vargas, he has defended his WBC super bantamweight belt five times before deciding to move up in weight to face Magsayo which could make him the favorite to win this fight in the bookies IMO.
Then this is going to be an interesting match although the bookies will be in favor for Vargas I think Mark Magsayo can defend his title but based on the highlights he have some good hooks but a little bit weak on his lower defense while Vargas is a tough guy that can't easily knocked down. This is going to be a tough and good match but of course I'll go along with the Filipino pride.

The fight is in July, so enough time for Magsayo to prepare very hard in this fight. I don't think it's a fluke that he won against Ceja, although he is down on the judges scorecard if I'm not mistaken, he didn't give up until he hit the homerun knockout. Against Russell, we all know that Russell is not 100% healthy so it's not Magsayo's fault. Now, this will be a true test for him, as others said, this could be a hard and tough match for him, but I believed that he can win this even if he is the underdog.

Magsayo has enough time to prepare for his upcoming fight against Vargas and base on my research this guy Vargas is not that easy opponent that Magsayo might take him easy. This will be a good fight to watch for knowing another Filipino boxer is trying to unfold his true potential under the underdog identity. It will be a tough fight for Magsayo but knowing the spirit of a Filipino boxer I believe he has a possibility to win the game he just need to focus on his training and give his best on the ring..

I'm not impressed with Magsayo's last two fights against Ceja and Russel but if he overcomes or beats Vargas then he can establish himself as the emerging prizefighter in the Philippines to date, Vargas is one tough customer I have seen his fight and I'm impressed in his movement, his jabs and the way he delivers his finishing blow, I hope Magsayo will deliver the same performance like he did against Ceja when he knocks him out.

There is only one Manny Pacquiao, there's no one that can emulate his style and charisma inside and outside of boxing.

So it's better for Mark Magsayo not to think about it but to focus on this fight because this is a big test for his young career. There are a lot of good champion in this division and it will be hard to stay on top but I think he will win against Vargas in his first defense of the belt.

You own the pen

I guess that's what Filipino wanted to be, a underdog and then show the world what they can do, LOL.

We might not like how Magsayo won against Russell because the latter in injured, but that is still a win for Magsayo. On the contrary, I don't think that this is going to be a hard fought match for Magsayo, I will be betting for him if he will be the underdog in this fight.

Yeah! it's still a win for him and let's hope that if he ever wins this upcoming fight, he will gonna show different skills that will gonna make the audience remember how he wins it. As we all know, he is not that known in the US yet because he hasn't shown more fights that we have witnessed in the Pacquiao era, though it's hard to copy how Pacquiao's boxing journey was in the USA, Magsayo needs to work hard to create his legacy as well while he still has a chance because an opportunity like this has not been given to the other Pilipino boxers who has some real boxing skills until they retired.

Are the odds already available?

Rey Vargas has a very good record, https://boxrec.com/en/proboxer/542148
35 wins and 22 of that are coming from KO. That was impressive.

Honestly, I don't trust Magsayo completely in this fight as I was a bit disappointed with the way he fight in his previous fight although he won. I don't know this Vargas but if Magsayo will not improve his style, I think he will experience his first defeat.

Magsayo will be in the biggest challenge of his boxing career, yes he won it against Russell but the guy was on a very long layoff and fighting only with one hand, This Vargas is very dangerous his ring generalship is very good and so is his record they are both champions, I like Magsayo to win the match but Vargas will be the heavy favorite here.
Magsayo should better train hard he is in for a very tough fight.

That's right, that's why he has the advantage and he could not even knockout Ruselle in that fight, so it's just normal for us to doubt him about if he could really beat a young and a hungry fighter, so let's see if he could defend against Rey Vargas.

Nah, I guess Magsayo will be fine here.
I've seen Vargas fight once or twice and he's actually good, but he doesn't usually have a powerful punches at least from his previous fights, but he still so have the agility and speed. However, I Magsayo can stand it.
One of the few things that Magsayo must prepare for is his disadvantage against a taller opponent.

I hope so, but if the odds for Vargas is good, then I would probably bet against Magsayo. He is our pride but when it comes to gambling, we cannot be biased and we just have to base our decision on our analysis, as I said, I was disappointed in his last 2 fights so I'm not gonna trust him with my money.

i agree, it seems his performance is getting worse not the same before and he was just lucky enough that he won on the previous fight.
For me surely vargas just want to take this opportunity before moving up, because he knows mark magasayo is easy for him, and yes if magsayo didn't improve his style and performance, in my view this match would be his worst nightmare.

I'm not sure the word "easy" is the right thing to use, that would not happen here, if Vargas will win, for sure Magsayo will give him a good fight. Well, I don't want to be bias so I think Magsayo chance to win here is not as high as the betting odds.

I will second that. And besides, on the positive side, Mark Magsayo is already lurking in the Featherweight division for quite some and already fought boxers in this league a lot of times. Enhancing his moves at this weight class and looks like it's considered his comfort zone to clash at the range of 126 lbs to around 130 lbs.

Rey Vargas on the other hand specializes in his moves in fighting at a much lower weight class, the Bantamweight class, and no doubt he is successful in this division. Clashing against the champion Magsayo will be his first tough job in the Featherweight class. Even by a lower percentage, Rey should at least feel the difference between fighting in the Featherweight and Bantamweight division although the catchweight isn't really that gap.

Vargas do have outstanding record, but I feel he's not in prime conditions anymore... he never won via KO'ed in the last previous 7 fights. This mean his power is decrease and he's not that active like he was on 2010-2014. Vargas is a tall boxer and have a reach advantages, the fight would be boring since Vargas played distance. Magsayo need to intimidated Vargas and make him into the corner. Magsayo would KO'ed Vargas since he have good stamina and power along 12 rounds.
