It will be better to have both of them. You can determine the allocation based on your risk-reward ratio. If you want to risk more money and your primary priority is to maximize your profit then altcoin can give you a better opportunity to do so if you manage to pick the right one. But if you think that you have enough funds and multiplying them a few times is enough for you then allocate most of the funds to bitcoin as this won't give you 100X but it can multiply your asset by at least 4X.
In my opinion, BTC and altcoin can both provide the best things in our lives, and it depends on our individual tastes, if I have large funds then I will choose both as investments, but in my opinion BTC has a smaller risk compared to with altcoins which have big risks, but if we can choose the right altcoin then we will be able to achieve bigger profits from bitcoin.
altcoins are an important tool in any portfolio, in my portfolio the ratio is approximately 60% Bitcoin; the rest are altocoins, which I mainly trade with and increase my positions in BTC. Next year is already halving and we need to be ready for it. I think this will be a decisive event. 
A few days ago bitcoin was cheap so you should have bought then. But you can buy bitcoin at this time if you want because later when the bull market starts its price will run higher. However all currencies have a combination of pump and dump so no matter which one you buy there is always an amount of risk involved. Haha... No too good comparison between both, depending on how long you plan to leave your investment. Altcoins are mostly quick rich scheme where most people rush into and don't get out easily I must say. Most Altcoins are shitcoins with so much hype, they seems nice at the very beginning then leave a knife to your heart. Base on the kind of risk attached to Altcoins many who are quick to correct themselves runs and find shelter in the arms of Bitcoin, as they live to invest with out fear and make good profits from Bitcoin, just that the duration at which good profit can be made is for a long term, a 3-5years interval. If you have the mind to hold for this long then buy Bitcoin and sleep on your investment as it gives you better profits in due time. Do not be in a haste to make profits so as you don't loose your funds

With that being said, it's better if you buy altcoins which have the potential to give you 3 to 10x profits, but if you want to be safe, buy simple bitcoin. Bitcoin is the 9th largest asset in the world based on market cap.

This is easy to talk about when you have bitcoin that you bought at the bottom. But if for example you bought bitcoin two years ago at 50k and you see altcoins doing x2-3-5-10, it's hard to fight greed. This market is not as simple as it seems. So if you choose the right coin and the right time to buy, any investment will bring profit.

Investing in bitcoin is an experience I believe every holder should have, even if you are planing on building a good altcoin portfolio, you must have first purchased some good amount of Bitcoin, so that should Incase anything happens to your altcoin you'll still have somewhere to fall back to. Though both investment are associated with risk, but that of Bitcoin is better than other altcoins when it comes to trust. The reason most people jump to altcoin investment is because they are more of short term holders than long term, but they forget to understand that most things which have short term profits doesn't last for long.

I can agree if altcoins can be pumped higher than Bitcoin. But I disagree if altcoins can be pumped easier than Bitcoin. There are some altcoins that never increase their prices again after they hit their ATHs in the last few years. Even, some of them seem to be dead coins. While Bitcoin is always increasing toward the Bitcoin halving schedule. And so far, Bitcoin always hits a new ATH in each bullrun season.Regarding the risks, every crypto coin has the risk. Although Bitcoin is safer, it doesn't mean to have no risk at all. Don't think Bitcoin is safe 100%! No one can guarantee the profits to invest in Bitcoin. If you don't understand bearish-bullish cycle or if you feel panic of huge dump, there is a chance to sell for losses as well. So, there is still the possibility for losses even if we are holding BTC for a long term investment.

Most here want to earn more than that, i guess. That is the reason there are lots of users in the altcoin section. Bitcoin can give you a max 3 to 5 time ROI. Major altcoins can give you a max 10X ROI. If you want more than that, you need to go beyond 100 in the CMC ranking. That area is vast and there are too many options. A new one will get lost in the desert, and it's not easy to find pure water in there, so sticking to those major altcoins is somehow safer than outside the top 100.

You are right that Bitcoin is a safe currency to invest in. It is true that there are many coins in the cryptocurrency market, but Bitcoin is the only cryptocurrency where we are not worried about investment . You are right, we are likely to get at least 3x returns from Bitcoin in the next bull season. After Bitcoin, if any cryptocurrency can be trusted more, it is Ethereum, which has the potential to give good returns, and is the second top cryptocurrency in the market. It is true that investing in other altcoins always involves risks, but if a project is successful, the rate of return is also very high. There are Altcoins that have the potential to give good returns in the future. You're right with the other altcoins that have made their own problems. And the investors that have been holding those like in sol, they don't want to take notice of that.But this is a market that has a variety of choices and that's why to each their own is the plan for each individual.

Simply put, Bitcoin can be purchased and held indefinitely. However, the altcoins market is not like that and there are risks such as a sudden drop in the price of a token that cannot be recovered later. In my opinion there are many coins that have been in the market for a long time but their token price is dead.
Altcoins can also be purchased and held indefinitely but not all alternative cryptocurency because many of them aren't worth it because of their poor design and only increasing in price because of their community hyping them. some altcoins has been in the market close to when Bitcoin started becoming very popular. Altcoins like Dogecoin has been in the market very long.
Altcoins like Ethereum has also been in the market very long and some of the new altcoins that has been created will also last for a very long time. BNB will be one of the coins because the CEO is working very hard to make the project one of the best in the industry. Altcoins has more potential than bitcoin because altcoins can increase more than Bitcoin in bull market.
We have many altcoins that are currently trading and popular that are bad but we have some good ones that can be profitable and can make you rich in a very short time therefore we shouldn't call every altcoins in the market bad for investments, what we have to do is to filter the market and select the good ones and invest, both altcoins and Bitcoin can make us profits.

If you are that someone who doesnt really like to take up risks and would really be loving on playing on the safer side then Bitcoin would really be your most viable option for you would be able to stick.
If you are that someone who doesnt really like to earn less despite of waiting for so long, then you would really be definitely looking on other angles on which you would really be that trying to look on altcoins since
these things could really give out that kind of condition on which you could potentially be able to earn up without waiting up for too long but of course it would be depending on what project you are in

Depends on what you need bro. But if you are in middle between altcoins and bitcoin let me give you advice invest 600$ for BTC and invest other 200$ for altcoins. If I was you I will also split 50$ for one altcoin. Because there is an old saying man "Never put your all eggs in one basket".
Actually Bitcoin is best i think. There has big possibility to big profit from Altcoin but it also has possibility to lose money. Altcoin has possibility to more profit but if that's altcoin were bad then investors will losser there jas no doubt. On the otherhand Bitcoin is trusted and profitable coin i think. And Bitcoin is now very popular cryptocurrency huge people involving with Bitcoin. So bitcoin price will go moon. I think Bitcoin price will go minimum 2x- 3x within 2/3 month. So i think bitcoin is best for investment.
