I always choose Bitcoin as the first choice by Bitcoin to decide on all markets and also ETH. The Altcoins survived and developed thanks to Bitcoin prices.

it is difficult to answer when the market situation is even like what is currently experiencing a very drastic price decline that has occurred in recent months and even now the market has not experienced a recovery in prices including that two coins.

For 2018 you gotta go with BTC just due to the lunacy of the Ethereum price. In the end I believe there will be a time Ethereum will have a huge % gain over Bitcoin from these lows but the risk is a bit too much for me with the Ethereum.
BTC is better than ETH, because due to crashed of ETH you should not buy ETH and experts also not recommending ETH.

Well for me as they now are in the same position , I think bitcoin is first to take and then look for the when to take Ethereum
