Yes, it can be risky but it all depends on what coin you choose. Altcoin pumps more than bitcoin in just a hort period of time. You just need to be very careful because if you just base on hype and not by your own research, expect to lose than gains.
It is depend on you what you choose to two option. But my opinion to you is buy altcoin because buying altcin is an investment and in the future you receive profit from your investment.
i agree with you mate every investor have a choice and decide themself how to grow the investment altcoin are good investment for the future nothing different hold bitcoin in the term to become profitable, holding of any altcoin are best way to hold in the long term and have possibility to grow in the future as valuable coins.
I think It's not a bad time to buy altcoins, most of the altcoins are very low prices. so it is in favour of buy altcoin. Because of now BTC is pump other side altcoin is dump. you can buy altcoin then you will get good profit.
I would wait some before purchasing anything because the Altcoins are falling in price this whole week. If you want more Altcoins then learn to invest with leverage. 
I think it's worth buying altcoyins, but before that, we need to carefully weigh each coin. There are many factors to consider here. Project quality, white paper, road map, capitalization, number of coins, price, mandatory team.

If the coin is 100% good then the price will not have any issues on getting an increase after Bitcoin gets that update. Hold as long as you can. 
All altcoins are at their bottom and can rise anytime, you can buy good altcoins like Waves, Stratis, Deeponion, Dash, LTC and many more coins. Now the risk/reward ratio in the buyers favor and very low changes of losses. Market can rise any time after BTC fork happen on 25th october.

With bitcoin up and altcoins down right now I think that it would be a good bid to put some money in altcoins counting on an increase in terms of FIAT value. Forget increasing the amount of BTC invested however, unless you're betting you your luc.

All the altcoins started decreasing now so it is the worst time to invest your fund on buying ICO token or any other altcoins. In between all these price dump, bitconnect coin value only increasing in the supply and price wise.
I don't how to take this is happening in the coinmarketcap site.
Don't go with BTG it will dump like bitcoin cash dumped after the last hard fork.
i think that at least 60% of all crypto should be in BTC. For rest of them you can bye or sell, as you wish. Yuo can bye now some new alts from etherdelta. They are at a half price of ICO. And should go up after 25th

Its a good option.,,but it depends on you..i have invested in some of them like waves and ripple...
Have a look at some fundamental good coins, that have dumped a lot. Imho there are a lot of coins in red. And its always the best to pick some nice coins with a future after a dump!

It is really the best time to get those altcoins. Although, I am still trying to watch out if there is a possibility of some of them still dropping more before the second fork. So, at this stage, not buying too much of each of them in the top row or the fundamentals one so as to reserve incase is like a good option for me. It will always still be a win-win. Best time to buy some alts now! I prefer high-caps!
I think investing in altcoin is better than investing in equities because the variation of choice is certainly more altcoin then the price of altcoin is also diverse so when the coin selection will be greatly helped

I would not suggest you to buy altcoins right now .bitcoin is showing tremendous amount of growth right now and we can still expect more growth from Bitcoin in the coming days.growth in price of Bitcoin is certain and the more Bitcoin will grow ,more the value of altcoins will decrease.I think buying and holding bitcoins will be a way better option to ensure growth as well as safety of your principal amount.
I think if buying altcoin this time is not the right time because the price is decreasing. Buy altcoin when there is a sign of going up it is the right time. And I recommend buying it after the upcoming hardfork
With altcoins it is really hard to see a clear pattern or predict the direction of the development of certain coins. Even project regarded as interesting and unique might fail.
IMO the best strategy in this situation is simply to buy randomly: just pick every at lease somewhat interesting altcoin and buy it for $50-$500, depending on your budget.
In few years some of the altcoins you bought might skyrocket with price growth over 1000% - others will certainly either fall or won't be popular, but it is still worth the risk.

Its not good idea untill hardfork.You should wait for december. BTC keeps increasing. It must be stable soon.
Buy altcoins because it will help you to minimize the risk that you have in bitcoin because bitcoin is not good always and it is better to have another source of income rather than bitcoin because if you will do altcoin investing in a good way then you will probably would make good profit.
which is right mate, if you know how to work with finding quality coins then you can make a good earnings from alts trading but there's also somerisk so better to buy those coins who have a good system and development while its on its dip then wait after some time to gain profits.
Agreed buying good altcoins with higher volume and good reputation involves less risk of loosing money as if you buy it at low price and hold it till price goes higher it will definitely bring good and positive results for you but you need to make sure that you do your own research and know which is the best time to buy altcoins.
