Back in mid-2017, Ethereum was so close to overtaking Bitcoin, as far as the market capitalization is considered. There was a difference of only around $2.5 billion. If ETH can get so close, then definitely some other altcoin will be able to overtake BTC in the future.
It is hard to tell but I don't see any best coin like bitcoin - so populare and more stable than other coins. Bitcoins will be always a leader
The above 50% dominance should mean a lot in such discussion, it is really had to beat. 53% dominance in over 2000 coin market is strong influence, except we all decide to fight bitcoin which is not necessary. The manipulators of the space dont care about any other coin aside bitcoin, it still has one of the strongest volatility in the market. It took a whole year to dump the price by 80% which took most altcoin less than 2 months. The argument of ethereum dominance has gradually decreased which may not come up again except one just one to add a thread in forum to add merit.
Basically, bitcoin has been born with a very strong defense, so it is difficult to beat by various kinds of coins. Until now, altcoin is still competing to get its main position as king of altcoin. That alone is still quite difficult because there is ETH as the king of altcoin with its rampant mastery. But if there is an altcoin that can provide a better revolution for crypto, I think it will be better.
this could happen. but not in the near future. currently competing are Ethereum and Ripple (XRP). the 2 coin developers are indeed very active in making breakthroughs and competing to get big partners. other coins need extra work to be able to get big partners and rich investors who are interested in entering the crypto world.

I don't think any altcoins today can overtake bitcoin because bitcoin has overruled the system. This is the most expensive coin right now and everyone protects bitcoin value. It may be volatile but the price will not go down like any other altcoins due to its certain stability.
At present, no altcoins are anywhere near of bitcoin, so there is no match with bitcoin. At the beginning of 2018, Many people had high expectations with Ethereum, but since then it has maintained continued downward trend and the price is around $100 now.

I think for overtake price of bitcoin it will be imposible.but for popularity and more transaction of community it will be.i think for believed somepeople number one just to bitcoin that can exchange to real money at cryptoworld.
Bitcoin is mainstream in the crypto community. It has always been the number one among cryptocurrencies. I dont believe any altcoin can overtake BTC.
