Rather than answering your question, i want to ask you back like Why the hell astronauts need to use bitcoin in space? What are they using it for there? buying aliens? I think they have another thing to do rather than using bitcoin in space. But as far as i know, if you have internet access you can use bitcoin, so if there's internet or free wifi in the space i bet the astronauts will be able to use it.

Astronauts don't need to use bitcoin since everything provided by NASA (or other government space agency) they work with. Also, i think anyone can't make bitcoin transaction/verification unless they can connect to trusted bitcoin nodes/run their own full nodes with fast/reliable internet connection.
Maybe we should think how bitcoin can be used in mars after human can life there instead Roll Eyes
Exactly what i was thinking, why would a space traveler or Astronaut need to use bitcoin there  those guys get paid well and am sure BTC is not their area of interest besides having to go to space is a privilege not a business trip.
Otherwise bitcoin in space is up and ready to be used thanks to the super fast internet found up there.

Was here immediately. What the hell are they going to buy in space? And more importantly, how long will it take to get a confirmation, when it takes a while just to relay the transaction to a node Wink it's bad enough already, I don't want to persih waiting Smiley

Good idea for the astronaut to have a currency and a cash to use while they are in the space but surely it is useless unlike they will buy things not for there seld but for there family. But if they have a stable internet connection in the space they can use bitcoin i dont think they have it.

Just curious, since the Internet is mostly an Earthly thing... would astronauts be able to access and transfer their Bitcoins whilst traveling throughout the solar system?
I found in net that astronauts could use internet and hence they could use bitcoins. But what the problem is that internet connection will be very slow in space.Already we suffer due to slow bitcoin transactions. So in space,it would be very slow for transactions to get confirmed.

haha I've just found that out too, wasn't even thinking of satelites. Tho the OP asked "whilst traveling throughout the solar system?" so I assumed that if they were to travel the solar system as of right now, so in this case... no?

as still there no life in space therefore i do not think that people will need bitcoin there. but if proper life found there and people visited there then i think they can think about to use bitcoin there for purchasing something, but still these things are look like impossible. as the astronauts are searching for life there but they still did not succeeded.

I have also thought about this but not the bitcoin part.  An astronaut can use the internet because there are satalites they can connect to. The latency would be bad though and you would only be able to connect within a certain parameter of the satalites so you can't just venture wherever you want. Bitcoin can be used where there is internet.

While there can access the internet, I think it can. Well, bitcoin connected with internet connection, so when he connect to the internet, even though he is in space, I am sure he can still mine, or find if he wants it
I think it is possible yes. But i think the transfering of data in terms of communication it will longer i think. For example they would post a topic here then it takes minutes or hrs before sending it. Just saying my idea.
as the world is now becoming more modern and people are thinking to visit space and to find space to live there. therefore it can be possible to use bitfoin there but i think it is not so easy. it will really take a lot of time, it can only be possible when people will start living in space and when they will feel the need to use money there,

If theres a store in outer space that accepts bitcoin, maybe  astronauts will need bitcoin in space. Grin Grin
Think of it bro ,your question is already unbelievable, no one can answer that except you.

Like what members earlier replied, I don't think Bitcoin or any kind of currency would be any use for the astronauts as everything will be provided for them. And to answer your question frankly yes they can access and use Bitcoin in space as long as they have internet which they do. But getting back to my question what kind of special function will Bitcoin have in space? You even called internet an "earthly thing" much more can be said to Bitcoin itself.
As said above, wherever internet connectivity is available bitcoin can be used. Whether it's outer space or any corner of the world doesn't matter. Bitcoin is the only currency which has got the access anywhere characteristic. Even USD doesn't have this, because in certain countries USD needs to be changed to local currency for usage.

Depending on how far they would travel because internet can only be access if they are just near on the satelites of earth which can transmit signal but talking about they are already on far planets of the solar system which signal cant already reached then they cant use internet at all which means they dont have access to bitcoin. If they are just on moon then maybe -" who knows" theres no astronaut in here  Grin

I can imagine a satellite with a small miner included so in case every damn miner quits the blockchain will still go one...

Maybe OP is a non earthly being wanting to corner the bitcoin mining market with alien technology. Oh no!

I am also just wandering will astronauts need bitcoin or other money in their travelling through the Universe?

I know that astronauts can access in the internet even they are outside the earth or in space so they can access in bitcoin too. But astronauts don't need bitcoin or money in space because they don't need to buy there own food, clothes or things in space because they are provided by people who sent them in space.

I think OP is not thinking of using bitcoin to buy goods in space, because there are nothing out there but rubble of rock and space dust, I think he would like to earn bitcoin even if he is on the outer space, there is no limit if one wants to really do it

Yes internet is mostly an earthly thing and NASA can access in the internet in space. So astronauts can access to bitcoin but how and where do they need bitcoin if they are mostly in space, that's the big questions and it takes years to get back on earth. And the only thing they are in space is to study what is outside on earth not to earn bitcoins.
