I have a problem with a new rig, each time I start claymore it start to mine for a few seconds then it gave me 000 in hash rate after that miner restart itself then screen show squares and rig
This is a new-built rig or this system already used  in mining before problem appeared?

It's new one

The best way to do it is to don't use any risers, but the conflict with this is that there is a maximum of 4 GPUs on the mobo with only a select number of mobo's.  The next best option is usb risers which add cost, but give the flexibility of having the GPUs off of the mobo.  After using ribbon risers, I would not use them anymore.  They are too fragile and unreliable.

In summary, go with the usb risers.

I sell risers so take what I say with a grain of salt... but why wouldn't you use risers? You can space your GPUs out better and get more airflow and lower temperatures.  Your GPUs will last longer.

Yes it means you need more power in your PSU as you need to power the risers but you can also fit 6 or 8 (yes some people do more than Cool cards per mobo/cpu/ram/ssd.  You get cost savings by running more GPU per mobo.

How to Build 186.6 MH/S 970 Watt power Ethereum , ETC , EXP mining rig

from midoprince

http://cryptocentral.info/topic/693/how-to-build-186-6-mh-s-970-watt-power-ethereum-etc-exp-mining-rig

There is a really common misunderstanding by miners, including the author of this article.

A PCIe riser works fine in the 16x slot.  The little 1x adapter board fits in the first part of the 16x slot. The notch fits perfectly and holds it in place. You just need to make sure you get it seated properly.

You never want to use ribbon cables. They are poorly made. The power to the ribbon cable is usually from a cable that is hot glued to the ribbon cable. You can see the globs of hot glue in the photo on the product picture for the 16x ribbon cable at Amazon. (I bought one when I was a newb too.)

I consume exactly at the wall: 970w

Gpu settings: 1200mhz / 0.920v
                   2250mhz / 0.950v memory

It's true that a 1200w can go, but personally I prefer to have a margin, for example has a future change of gpu.

1200 is too small for 6 rx480.

Overclocking or even leaving it standard isn't very efficient (hash per watt). You want to undervolt and underclock and it will be using ~120w per card (including system components).

nice tuto,

But a 1200w power supply is too small for 6x rx480!

Let us assume a maximum consumption of rx480 = 180w

180 x 6 = 1080w

Then add the rest of the components, cpu, ssd, ram, fan etc ...

Imaginonsu 120w.

1080 + 120 = 1200w

Alim certified 80 more (85%) = 1020w Smiley

rx480 isn't using 180W unless you overclock it and increase voltage. If you have good psu which has 1200W on 12v rail it is enough. 6 x rx480 is around 160W from the wall if you don't overclock much (it's better to undervolt them) which gives around 136-140W from PSU, other components are 40-50W (if you don't mine with your cpu) which gives less than 900W from psu, at the wall is more but this is not important here.

yes but this rig was first for testing purposes and I left it mining ETH while all my other rigs are on ZEC

You mining and holding or mining and selling?

Well I'm mining and holding, there is a good chance of an upcoming temporary pump. I'd suggest holding too.

Thanks, I'll switch to Zcash than

Or you can switch to ETC or EXP.

Probably considerably safer to choose ETC as it's value typically mirrors ETH almost minute by minute.

How much ram does your GPU have?

Probably 2GB, that is the problem.

Yup, that is why i'm asking Wink
but it was working without any issues for months

It did, but DAG is now too big and can't fit in your 2GB memory.
I have the same problem on my r9 270 cards.

is there any source I can find to see info about DAG file size
googled it but nothing
