I optiminer miner does not work, 2 cards do not want to engage in mining that can be Huh

With optiminer there's always a card hanging and I don't want to babysit rigs. CM 11.1 no problems! Grin

Optiminer 1.6 has been rock solid for days on my Ubuntu 14.04/fglrx box.  One of my R9 380's was hanging at 1550 memory clock, but has been fine at 1500.
So if optiminer stresses the hardware more than CM, the issue is not with optiminer its your overclocking.

I just don't agree. I'm not over clocking any of my cards (3 Radeon R9 380X and 1 Radeon HD 7870), running Windows 10 using the 15.12 driver. I continue to receive BSOD while running optiminer, or the thread hangs and I must restart the application, this is occurring every 2-3 hours. When optiminer is running, I always get block pixels on my screen too. Maybe optiminer is more stable on Ubuntu than Windows 10, but there is definitely stability issues. I can overclock all my cards by 10% and run Claymore without any issues.

It depends on the components and luck i guess, im running Optiminer on my 270x and 79x0 ones and its really stable.
The speed is great too, getting 200+ sol/s on 270x, compared to 160 on Claymore.

Pretty sure the only ones mining ZEC right now are the Tahiti and Pitcairn GPUs. Since if you got Tonga/Hawaii/Polaris you are most likely back to ETH/ETC mining.

I agree, im doing the same. Running Zec only on cards that cant handle DAG or get too hot for ETH.
As it stands, ETH+Decred or something else is more profitable for the last couple of days, maybe even a week or more.
Even if the speed on ZEC is increased it wont make profits any better i guess.

I'm switching my Tongas back to eth, but my Hawaii is staying on ZEC.  I get ~330sols with optiminer and ~28Mh/s with sgminer-gm.
My Tahiti and Pitcairn GPUs have been on exp for the last few weeks, since that gives me better returns than ZEC.

The other thing I don't like about ZEC is that the difficulty fluctuates +-15% day-to day, while eth (and even exp) is more steady.

Looking at the ZEC difficulty chart it seems the difficulty hasn't changed since Christmas.

The EXP difficulty is more volatile since whenever there is a pump it jumps quickly.

likewise, CM & opti both stable if I don't push my OC.
I like CM for its interface and would use it if its within 2% of opti's speed, hopefully new version will be good.

ZEC-USD price down AGAIN - $35.39

Yeah, not sure where this is going. For the past 7 days really I have been mining to offset the price drop.

Fear not! It is just going to it's intrinsic value, which is ..

Anyone have an informed opinion of the direction of zcash, seems like it is turning into zcrash, but I am not well versed in the capability and functionality of all the cryptocurrencies to know of their potential and what projects are going on to make them valid with potential future growth.  I know it takes time for a technology to get traction and integrated into practical application, but I don't have a good feel for the future of zcash right now and only see it diminishing.  I would love some detail or thoughts as to what others understand concerning the potential future of this coin.

Then I would suggest taking this post over to the Alt-coins/Speculation forum area, which is where that type of discussion takes place Smiley This thread is specifically concerned with "Claymore's ZCash AMD GPU Miner v11.1 (Windows/Linux)", which doesn't mean that it's the right thread for any post that has the word "Zcash" in it. Ahh, good call.  I was unaware of that thread.  I will take this question there.  Thanks.

Can anyone share hashrate of Sapphire R9 Fury on mixed with RX 480 rig. I get 395 sols with 1140/500 stock bios on 17.1.1 drivers.
Shall I get better performance of 16.3.2 ?

Yes, run DDu and then install 16.3.2

depending on if you want the gpu lottery -  but I would pull it back to 1125/500 and go from there... you should see 443-460 on the fury

use msi afterburn. i've been able to lower the 290x to 125 watts average as per gpu-z. In my case i'm more worried on the fan noise so this voltage lowering brought the temp to the mid 60s and the fan to 60%, this while maintaining the sols at 337 to 347

What you see on gpuz is not the total power consumption of the card. 125w for the gpu only is possible but with the rest of power components on the pcb the real consumption is much more(about 200w). Check with wattmeter if you don't believe.

Agreed, but the numbers for the GPU are still absolute so any savings you see on GPU level are still 'real' power savings.

In theory this is true but it is possible that only the asic power is dropping while the rest of the package is going up to make up for it.  Use hwinfo instead of GPUz, it will show you multiple power readings.  You can usually add the core power and "GPU Chip Power" together and thats your actual at the wall wattage. (your results may vary!)

Basically there is more than core voltage, asic values and TDP. These are the things commonly thrown up on these forums because they are the easiest to understand/adjust.

Well it is lower from 160 and the temp from the 80s to low 60s. If you have a 290x reference you would know how important that is.
