For some reason I'm flooded with requests from folks asking to buy more chips. I understand this thread grew far beyond what one would like to read to get some answers, so I'll put it here as reference to point to from PMs:

Hi, where have you been over the past weeks? There were so many announcements and deadlines to provide shipping data, how could you have missed all of them?

Sadly, all chips are gone now. If you plan to build your own boards, you'll have to wait for batch 2 (which will ship when Avalon decides to). If you want to buy boards, burnin would now have enough reserves to serve your order. In the latter case, please PM me so we can find a good solution.

At least here in Switzerland DHL operates an own import department where VAT and customs are processed and you get charged within one week after parcel was delivered. Most often they take the declared value of gods from the attached documents and add some processing fee (like 40 CHF per processed parcel), but I also had cases where they re-estimated value (e.g. on used goods with obviously too low price tags).

Other parcel services (not sure if it was UPS) charge at delivery.

AFAIK he shipped your chips to some early batch #2 customers. you need to wait for him to receive batch #2 chips from avalon.

FYI, I got a $33.50 bill via mail from DHL for "Customs Duty" a week or so AFTER they delivered my Avalon's.

You are too late. The chips from batch 1 are shipped. It was plenty of time and warning about.

@zefir... why do you think that DHL will demand the VAT afterwards? As far as i know DHL wouldnt give you the package if you dont pay before. At least when i had to pay for the 90 sample chips they took the money from me at the door and gave me the invoice. I doubt a bit that they would collect afterwards when the goods are already delivered. Might be wrong.

Yes, I do I just wanted to point out that this is only true for a small percentage of orders, which get shipped individually (not combined with other orders to, say, burnin). My point is that small orders to brunin etc. will not add much to the total shipping cost and should therefore be cheaper.

They charge on volume weight or wight in kg the bigger one. And they do have minimum weight charge no matter of what 0.5 or 1 kg. They do not care if it is a single chip package, they just charge Make the calculations please and you will see that 2000 chips may cost same as one chip. It does not matter how many chips do you send concerning this topic.

It is true that 1 chip is taking less than 0.01% or so but what i am saying that the charge for one or for 2000 will be equal. I am speculating here with numbers her but you got the idea right?

For sure it will be less expensive sharing 2005 chips - 2000 + 1+1_+1+1+1 shipping costs between 5 guys (one chip order as example) equally compared to just a single chip 5 times

In practice, that does not matter since most people ship to burnin, marto74, etc. So it makes a difference whether you occupy, say 30% of the space in one packet, because you ordered a lot, or you occupy 2% because you ordered just 10 chips.

Post office do not care if you send one or 500 chips. They charge same as long as package is < 0.5 kg

But somebody who only ordered a small amount might be willing to pay for shipping, just not the full amount. So why not charge half the flat-fee for small orders (i.e. two "categories")? However, Zefir should not have to do accounting - I'm confident that your "customers" will just pay the prices you ask for. Just define "small order" and ask people to apply the x% rebate by themselves before paying.

That would make everything more complicated. Zefir is already spending enough time to make everything work out right.
The ones that can´t pay can take it as a donation and post it in public.

As for the s&h matter I don't think it's fair that a person with 10 chips and another person with 100 chips pay the same s&h costs...
But I also understand that it's somewhat tedious and too complicated to calculate per individual also given that some are shipped to manufacturers in combined packages, others are shipped directly to individuals and so on.

I think it would be better if there are categories, e.g. up to 50 chips, up to 100 chips, up to 200 chips etc.

there will be no additional confirmation for orders from my side. If you have a valid receipt with an epoch of less than 1374609600 (2013-07-23T20:00Z) your order shipped.

Shipping and Handling Payments
I need to wait at least one week to get the invoice from DHL for import payments to know how much I need to charge for S&H.

Also I need to get some more experience which shipping method works best. I observed several delays with registered air-mail over SwissPost, but I did already also with German DHL (like burnin's package shipped national express still not arrived, while an other national package shipped regular already got delivered). Furthermore, German DHL international express is not significantly cheaper than SwissPost urgent via TNT global (at least not enough to compensate traveling costs).

I am not in a hurry with collecting S&H costs, since I am confident to have your support when I ask for it. Initially I planned to ask for an exact reimbursement of costs, but now I realize that accounting those costs might turn out to be more expensive than the costs themselves. Therefore, I tend to consider a flat S&H payment as alternative, like I already did with the sample chips. That would e.g. mean everyone pays 0.5BTC and thats it. For those with only 10 chips in order, this would be a relatively high S&H component, therefore I would again allow to take it as donation if requested publicly in this thread.

Thank you very much. I filled the contact website form asking if my chips were sent. The answer is here. But i have asked for shipping expenses also. I am aware that we shall take care of them but i still did not get a reply.
Please comment how shall we send you some coins to cover the shipping?

11 orders from 9 users were missing with a total of 420 chips. Those (plus others out of my reserves) were added to marto74, burnin, and strombom's delivery to fill up the chip-trays or complete sealed packages. With that, those chip manufacturers can build up some reserves to manage issues (DOA chips, lost chips, etc.) at their side, which I assumed to be the best possible use.

From the surplus chips, none were sent to private addresses, while I added my own chips to some split orders for people having some more chips in the 2nd batch to reduce shipping costs and handling efforts. Also I sent 90 chips from my own to someone with later orders promising to build USB miners and distribute them to non-techies and so introduce them to Bitcoin.

Does this answer your question, or you had something specific in mind?
