Having said that if by any chance they are increasing teams to 12-14 then i don't mind 5 reserved spot for overseas players.
5 reserved spots for overseas players is a great idea, but I feel that 12-14 teams in the tournament is way too much and will just increase the number of matches played between them which would tire out viewers pretty quickly.
They should stick to the current number itself and lower the number of matches played between them which would retain more viewers in my opinion.
The current number of 10 looks OK to me. Almost all the regions are represented. If the size is increased to 12-14, then some of the franchises may be based out from tier-2 cities such as Indore or Patna, where there is not enough revenue potential. It will dilute the quality as well (if the requirement of 7 Indian players in the XI is maintained). And also, the IPL may get too lengthy and may stretch for 3 months or so. The ICC is already uneasy with the 2.5 months time window and they will definitely reject any further extensions.
If someone watching each n every game then ofc fatigue is natural but fans hardly do that.
When any event goes for longer period of time then spectators become selective, they opt to watch only their fav players or their respective franchise fixture or interesting match-up. In next 5 years i do see tremendous possibility of IPL going into 12 team format or if BCCI get lucky then even 14.
As for ICC, i would like to see BCCI to present -Same % of ICC revenue model- proposal for every member including associate members (despite BCCI generating lion share), given ICC is ready to introduce 30-40 team format in WC (T-20 and 50 overs). If not then they should shut up about everything.
