There's more hardware coming online, too. I wonder if this is like a mad dash before the halving next year to get out as much gear as possible and just crank blocks. Will we see difficulty drops this time next year? Could be, will be interesting to look back.

that new chip perfected that scares me personally. If as reported it's like 1/3 or less then current gen efficiency... so massive jump.
If I was them with the magic chip I would be pumping out very fast and changing out all old hardware. This scares me that it likely is not 1 week of high difficulty change.
It all will depend on their QA\QC, so when that is announced and they start filling their data center. Bad things will be happening if we keep this trend up through the winter. With day trading I am only 112 days at current price/difficulty on my roi for my nine s7's. I am really wanting to mine until the halving, but if the next couple of jumps are close to ten I think I will just sell my miners and leave most of the coins in cold storage and go back to trading with 10-30% of my coins on the swings.
I am kicking myself in the ass for not dumping a large portion of my coins before the difficulty increase and my expected drop in price since the pump will likely be nice.... sigh.

Well, November is when the winter cold come, so i'm hoping we can chalk this up as the annual Diff raise that come with the cold coming and many switching to smart ASIC heating for the winter.
Considering the BTC raise we got and that seem to be holding, its not surprising the difficulty went up in the first place. Hopefully it settles... now.
It's going to hurt on this difficulty. I did not think I would see a over 10 difficulty again.... just so much hash out there. But it looks like its going to be over 10.
Wow is all I can say. And hope next week is less... i like 5 or under.
