I think the money are better of a prize. I wouldn't want to ever receive a "cold wallet" as a prize. It'd be better for such things to be done by the individual, privately.
Agreed. We've seen in previous years that many users refuse anything that requires a physical address.

I've seen very nice collectibles offered on Bitcointalk over the years, some for free and some were offered to me. It hurts having to reject them, but I'll always choose privacy over material goods.
Indeed, it's really hurt to reject them, But for some people, there is no other option but to do that.
I myself visit the collectibles board sometimes but even if I want to take something from there, I can't take those for privacy, because in my region cryptocurrency and everything related to it is illegal.  Cry
And I think that since it's a Bitcointalk Community Award, there are a lot of people in this community who have the same limitations as me, so I also think that giving money or bitcoins as a prize would be better than hardware wallets.

Hello friends everyone.

The next annual voting will be launched very soon! I would like to consult with you and find out what would be best for the community! What do you think is better... to divide $7000 between the winners, or to give away 30 cold wallets to the winners and give away another 40 cold wallets among the community?.

yay the BCA awards will come🥳🥳🥳
we from Icarus can then produce individual Icarus cards for the winners and of course it is up to them whether they send their winnings or other funds to these wallets.
Icarus would be very happy to be a part of this awards and to accompany them together with icopress and the entire community Smiley

Is this the third community awards? Great.  Smiley
It is not the third but the fourth Bitcointalk Community Vote and Awards.  Cheesy

First: 2020
Second: 2021
Third: 2022

And we are going to have a fourth in 2023.

70 hardware wallets shared between the winners and the community would mean there would be more 'winners'. But with too many people now sceptical of hardware wallet manufacturers and the need to expose your privacy to the senders, too many people would turn down the price.

$7000 in BTC would be easier to disburse and nobody would worry about their privacy, but it would be for only the winners and no one else. You have to choose the trade-off it'll be.

While cold wallets can be great collectibles, memories or even used by some, I agree with BlackHatCoiner, it's better if people decide and handle cold storage/HW themselves.
Plus, money tends to be a better prize, it's more private (one needs to post a wallet address, not a postal one) and can be used for whatever the winner wants it to.

On the other hand, if we pick the money option, the voters/community may get nothing and of course, an incentive would get more voters/votes (of course, abuses too).
But you have a good experience with people, I am sure you'll find the best approach.

What's the pizza slice meant beside your coins? I have never seen any pizzas  Huh How do people get it anyway?

fillippone bribed theymos with 50 BTC to offer him that pizza badge won the Pizza Baking contest in 2022 (with this pizza) and one of the prizes was that badge looking like a pizza slice.

Roman Empire and Romania  Shocked   Roll Eyes Rings a bell?
I heard Romans were the best engineers. Anything they build lasts hundreds of years.

Yes, and we also tried to teach Romans our techniques too, but it seems they forgot how things should be done, therefore their descendants -- the Italians -- did not do a proper job with the Leaning Tower of Pisa =)))

(I hope that the Italian Brotherhood senses my humor here )

I guess it was a merit cycling club long before a merit cycling club ever existed. Maybe the point is that there always were a merit cycling club, as the flux capactitator made some merit cycling club member travel in time to cycle merits.

I recall once speaking with a fellow Romanian that he claimed Romanian actually invented the Latin language and teached it to the Romans trough the Dacian.

Loooooooooool!

And that was, in fact, the great Roman Empire. Roman as in Romanian. Of course! There is, in fact, no (word) connection between Roman Empire and Italy, right? But think about that: Roman Empire and Romania  Shocked   Roll Eyes Rings a bell?

I think I am already seeing my history with different eyes now...

Let me clarify some details.

Thank you very much for your kind gift and for the clarification!

We could think that Romanian, as being a Latin language (maybe most close to Latin excepting Italian?)

Maybe Betnomi might be interested in our opinion about it, maybe not.
Let me clarify some details. To begin with, these custom wallets were not originally intended for ruffles or any other contests and events. These custom wallets were ordered in 2021 directly from the manufacturer to thank the employees for their hard work (quite a while has passed since then, and it is not surprising that the firmware is a little outdated). But we still had a few wallets left, until one of the forum users suggested some ideas where we can put them.

I don’t know if there is a similar saying in English, but in Italy we say:

Quote
A caval donato, non si guarda in bocca
In English we say the same thing ("don't look a gift horse in the mouth"), but we probably shouldn't in any language: I think you'll find that the etymology of that phrase can be traced back to ancient Troy. Stay vigilant! Wink

Interesting, the saying is also used in Romanian. The Romanian form, translated in English, is "Don't check the teeth of a horse given as gift" -- of course, it has same meaning as the one mentioned above. It's very interesting to observe how languages evolved so differently yet common expressions can be found  in so many of them, although they don't have same origin. We could think that Romanian, as being a Latin language (maybe most close to Latin excepting Italian?), may have more common expressions with Italian (which is the child of Latin language). Yet this expression also exists in English, which is a Germanic language. I really find this very interesting.

And there are many similar cases. For example, the English sayings "Don't put the carriage before the horse" or "Not seeing the forest for the trees" also exist in Romanian and also in very same form.

Other than that, congrats for receiving your prize, dear fillippone! I am very happy for you and I hope you will show us a photo after you frame the art print Smiley

Well you finally got your hands on the ledger, I am happy for you Smiley

All that remains is for you to use the ledger for a short while and then provide feedback on your experiences. I hope icopress will be equally happy when he manages to get hold of his items.

I take it the ledger was the item you were looking forward to receiving the most and as that has not arrived there is disappointment. As you tracked it to your country, hopefully it will be with you soon  Smiley
Yup, you are right Smiley But it was not a big disappointment, as I knew it was supposed to arrive in a few days and this happened meanwhile Smiley

Apparently the saying is from Saint Jerome of Stridone.

Quote
Noli equi dentes inspicere donati

Back then, the horse was a vital productivity factor and something to care about for the owner's wealth.
Looking into a horse's mouth was usually done to see the state of the teeth as an indication of the health status and the age of the horse itself.

Probably the horse in the Odyssey and Eneyd has nothing to do with that, also because the "Trojan horse" probably is a translation error.
The horse was a ship in reality. This alternative translation makes a lot more sense and makes story more credible.

Quote
According to Tiboni, the horse was not hippos, the Greek word for "horse," but hippos, a Phoenician term for a type of warship with a curving prow.

The Ledger X is an already well-known hardware wallet.
In case you are wondering, the wallet was sporting outdated firmware, but I updated it straight from the laptop app.
Why oh why they choose to give one of the worst hardware wallets for this giveaway?  Cry
Maybe because it's popular brand, but there are much better HW options for similar money and they also offer custom branding.
I don't want to spoil your fun, so congrats on winning and receiving your awards Wink

this means that when you receive a gift, you don’t evaluate it, but you only take it.

Of course, there are supposedly better hardware wallet. Maybe Betnomi might be interested in our opinion about it, maybe not. But I don’t think it is a discussion for this thread.
