icopress could set a rule that disqualifies anyone who Merits posts in the topic before the deadline passes.
That could be a useful addition for the upcoming years if icopress decides to continue with the ceremony. Somehow I don't think he will make such changes for this edition. He has stated that it's his decision whether or not to ignore votes by inactive and recently awakened users. But that's about it really.

Like I suggested before, if this voting event is going to become a annual thing for years to come, them maybe the admin team could prevent merits being sent in the thread to prevent abuse.
I don't think Admin needs to do it: icopress could set a rule that disqualifies anyone who Merits posts in the topic before the deadline passes.

Without pointing fingers, some of the users who are rewarding a lot of merits to voters

This is visible even to the blind. And the funny thing is that this has been discussed for a long time, but in spite of everything, merits are given out for the chosen votes.
I'm more than sure that among the voters who have the goal of getting merit, they don't even know the people they are electing. But, unfortunately, the win overshadows the eyes of the one who claims to win, and the merit reward will continue. Although yes, from the outside it does not present a big problem. It just characterizes the person.

Without pointing fingers, some of the users who are rewarding a lot of merits to voters are nominated for a reason and deserve to be nominees, if not winners in their respective categories. So there are two choices and both are wrong and right at the same time. You either don't vote for them if you think what they are doing is not right. But that is an injustice in itself. Or you vote for them and potentially get merited, and then it looks like you only voted for someone to be merited by that same person.

I'm definitely seeing a pattern of users popping up, and voting for those that are rewarding votes with merit.
It's possible; because I purposely didn't send any merits in that topic to make sure I don't get votes from people who only hope to receive my sMerits. After the initial few days / weeks (during which active legit users already submitted their votes), I almost entirely stopped receiving any more votes. Grin

Some of them may take advantage of the opportunity to get merit, but some of them also sincerely want to choose. I'm not entirely sure what the goal is, but merit is one of the main draws of most spammers during voting.

I probably wouldn't blame them completely but maybe some merit source would also really like to appreciate it even if some of them aren't great posters so far. But I can think of something positive about it and one of them is introducing merit to spammers who might later change their behavior when they realize that merit is a rank up requirement.
I think most of the earlier votes were genuine, although I'm definitely seeing a pattern of users popping up, and voting for those that are rewarding votes with merit. That's probably not enough evidence to be absolutely sure that was their sole motivate, but I think it has definitely played a part in some of the votes. Like I suggested before, if this voting event is going to become a annual thing for years to come, them maybe the admin team could prevent merits being sent in the thread to prevent abuse. Although, I'm not sure it's a massive problem in the grand scheme of things, it would just be a shame to see a community event be ruined by it, as I do believe that message behind the event i.e recognising those that contribute to the forum in one way or another, is a good one.

Some people really don't read the categories' descriptions, do they? Grin
Discovery of the year: Corona Vaccine had me cracking up! Not only is it 2022 and COVID vaccines popped up in 2020, so if you discover it this year, you've been living under a rock for literally years; but also cool username - I wonder if someone has already claimed it.

So, I went through pages 10-14 with BPIP browser extension and this is a list of users just in these 5 pages with either <50 merits or <50 earned merits.
Technically, the latter is allowed, as far as I know, but it seems odd to me that someone earned less than 50 merits (some even ZERO) since the introduction of the merit system and is still so interested to these community awards. I've checked a few profiles and most of them just post in bounty campaigns or sports betting stuff; nothing regarding Bitcoin itself.

I, too, was surprised by such praise. Giving someone else's money has become a miracle in our time. Just doing the right thing is an act. There is clearly something wrong with this world. Does that mean that someone who thinks it's a miracle to get the money back wouldn't do the same if they were in that situation?
The fact is that returning 1000 dollars is not the same as returning a quarter of a million ... therefore, on the eve of next year, I will take more care to convey to everyone who wants to vote to convey the idea that I put in the description of the categories. Perhaps I will even ask one of the trusted users in parallel with me to count the votes at their own discretion (to derive an average value).

Baryom    2018-11-03        I sent him 39.4 BTC instead of 0.394 BTC for a signature campaign payment. (My mistake obviously) He returned me 39.005 BTC as soon as he saw that :

We are talking about $250,000. Thanks a lot.

Btw, Many misinterpret the meaning of the word Antihero and give their votes to 1xBit, which hypothetically should win a prize (and I think it's unacceptable no matter how you look at it). So it's likely that some of you will have to red tag me for being biased... because it would be a great example of me counting votes at my own discretion.
Instead of doing that and excluding only 1xBit why don't you just remove reward from that category all together?
Antihero is clearly a villain character no matter what definition you wrote in voting topic, so for example I voted for crazy humanrightsfoundation but I don't want him to receive any financial reward, and that was never the point of voting (I  hope so).

a villain is a villain.. hense giving it the title villain

an anti-hero is a hero without the boyscout personality/charm

take to comic personalities superman. vs hancock(will smith with superpowers)
superman is the boyscout type,. hancock is the realist that helps others but doesnt care about his slang, personality, property damage while doing it

other examples
EG james bond (007 books and movies) is an anti-hero
he is a womanising man that has a licence to kill and happily crashes cars and steal/abuse government property.. but he does it for the greater good of stopping the villains

EG severus snape (harry potter books and movies) is the anti-hero
antagonist, not afraid to use the dark arts, but he is not the villain. his actions actually go against the villain
example of boyscout hero: harry potter
example of true villain: voldermort

EG robin hood
steals from the rich. not afraid to use arrows. gets into fights. but does it to give to the poor

EG rambo
not afraid to use arrows, knives, guns. gets into fights. but does it to help those in need

EG wolverine & deadpool(xmen)
not afraid to slice and dice with his knife appendages to hands. but does it to help those in need even if they didnt ask for that sort of help
example of boyscout hero: professor X, cyclops
example of true villain: juggernaut, apocalypse

EG batman (DC books/comics/movies)
not afraid to damage property and hurt people. does it to help the greater good/sort out the bigger threat
example of boyscout hero: superman, wonder woman
example of true villain: lex luthor, joker

P.S im not looking for financial reward if i win anti-hero status. i just like the title and wish to continue using the antihero in avatar
(technically i have not earned the title. but im presuming the assumptions are high that i will... give any financial reward to runner up)

That's why last year the "troll of the year" category was removed. In this case giving them any attention is already more than they deserve.
What a naive person. "Troll of the year" category was removed because then in this category nutildah would have won. DT farmers just were afraid to disgrace

If you're going to persist with this creepy fascination with other people's genders, can you at least be consistent about it? Just pick one of the many genders, accuse us of "really" being it, and stick with it already. Roll Eyes
Calm down, cadet. You are not a real girl too Foxpup. Nobody has seen your photos. I do not understand those weirdos who nominates you for "Miss Bitcointalk" nomination Roll Eyes

Looks like that the one real girl here is sensualbellax (VERY BEAUTIFUL)

This nonsense has gone on long enough.
Yes, those "pretending-to-be-a-girl" tricks of some users (like Foxpup, BitcoinGirl.Club & other gender-bender fagg0ts) has gone on long enough.

You must have 50 merit or be a full member or higher to vote ➥ Note.
Spambies and scammers can't be excluded at your discretion Shocked

what should I do if Satoshi asked to remove his candidacy from the vote? Refuse him?
Ask him to sign a message Cheesy And send my regards Smiley
If he decides to vote, I suggest to double the weight of his vote. We owe him that.

Which one of Satoshies, please specify [...]
If you think there are several Satoshi's on our timeline at the moment, please contact the Time Variance Authority and they will make adjustments as soon as possible. But if you're hinting at your patron, then I can assure you that last year he already received a consolation prize.

As for the nominations in which Satoshi and Lauda won, I can assure you that this question also bothered me until I contacted [[email protected]] them directly. They unanimously expressed their desire to trade their T-shirts for a T-shirt for CW and frankly, I was surprised that FedEx delivered the package to him before Christmas.

Did theymos asked to be removed?  Smiley

Satoshi probably wouldn't care much about any voting, so it's unlikely he would ever ask this.
