LOL, are some of you aware that some of the users who started posting votes in the voting thread in the last few pages are spam posters trying to get some merit easily just citing a few merit source?  Grin
Pretty much the same thing happened last year so that's why I hoped that members will sustain meriting those that give them votes as it may only bring shitposters who would just about anything for a couple of merits. Then again, some were so lazy that they copied other member's posts word for word, including the typos so they (IIRC) ended up banned, making that voting thread sort of honey pot.

There's another reason why they come to vote without probably knowing any of the names that's been thrown around and that's vouchers of 2 mbtc that 10 lucky voters gonna get.

I noticed that too. This high Activity bounty spammer turned Jr. Member because of this post. At least mole0815 noticed it too:
Unfortunately, I overdid it with the merit distribution when there is a mention.

All in all it's only a few Merit amongst thousands of bounty spammers. They can't scale it to many more, if they do it will be noticed.

I don't think sending them merit is anything but wrong, but I'm sure some of them will succeed in deceiving managers by naming some of the merits they've earned in the last 120 days to be accepted into the campaign. Turns out I was wrong, before I thought spam posters didn't dare enter the meta to get merit. LOL

Thank you, icopress, for appreciating my efforts to keep forum clean. I have to be honest here -- it's something that recently happened and determined me so much. I also used to do thousands reports in the past, but not like now. I mean, in 2020 I made ~4-5000 reports. In 2021 I made 13.000+. But since beginning of 2022 I made almost 20.000 (good) reports, in just one month and a few days. I hope to be able to keep this pace for as long as possible.

Mods must hate him Tongue

Looool, I bet they do. For sure, Welsh hates me  Grin I think that he handled most of my reports.

Anti-hero and spambuster rolled into one... great idea for a nomination. Tongue

Hahahhaha! That would be one of its kind!

simply translate the competition categories and then link to the main competition thread for the vote.
explaining how to vote in a way anyone can understand in any language
all that is important is a number/image(category) and a name. anyone can easily understand, in any language

11: franky1

just need to translate it so directions are for instance

multiple language explanation for how to vote for anti-hero would be tag:
11 or : franky1

..
unless you mean the sub community that might be smaller but they have a favourite, but that favourite wont ever win anything because the only 5 people that know them wont vote 20+ times to overshadow a prominent main forum person that has 20+ votes already

by which. maybe try to see what regions the sub forums are in and see what merchants and services operate in that region and try getting them to sponsor a local competition for the region. EG welsh (as staff) can organise his own multicultural competition in april

Unfortunately, users that predominately post in their local section are likely at a disadvantage. It might actually be better if the local sections did their own sort of nominations within a thread in their local sections, but restricted to users that only participate in the local section. That might make it a little more realistic, since I imagine that those that post in the main English Bitcoin sections get a lot more exposure.
This means that we would need to have some two tier voting systems and most of the local sections are not active enough for something like that.
To avoid complications, what we could do is to nominate and select one overall best user for each active local section, for each year, and I would support that idea.
We could also pick one best and most local member from all local sections, or something like that... this could also motivate new members to be more active.

If anyone feels like supporting me, I would appretiate it so much if you would nominate me for the discovery of the year but I do understand that there are so many users in this forum with so much knowledge that it is probably unrealistic for me to win especially being more active on the german forum part.

Don't know if that's something that local communities would be interested in, but it might make it a little bit easier for people to reward local section users without being stacked against other users that have further exposure. Could potentially liaise with icopress to get the nominated users in the local section put in the announcement of the winners.

I'm all for promoting different ways of encouraging users to contribute positively to the forum.

updated: UK midday 7th feb 2022. i counted up the votes of antihero (my fav category, cheers)

and i tallied up, so far
1xbit:33
franky1: 28
jollygood: 13
nullius: 10
elon: 6
lauda: 5
faketoshi: 4
the rest only had 1 or 2.

an anti-hero is not the villain
im not a boyscout hero, i dont sit around campfires patting people on the back telling each other comforting stories when they get things wrong. and ill never change, i'll call out BS when needed. to any level. i dont fear giving the harsh truth when needed.

so is there anyone making utopian dream unachievable promises about things that need my harsh wording, anyone that needs to be corrected. any group that appears to be ass kissers that need putting in their place?

i think i need to earn top spot in this category, i dont even want the financial reward, i just like the avatar and want to earn it

I am not quite sure if anyone even tried to campaign here but since I am not too active on the international forum, I'd like to introduce myself a bit.

After being nominated by 1miau and MinoRaiola for the Discovery of the Year I thought I'd give it a try.

Last year didn't start too good for me as I was still pretty new and applied for the 1xbit Signature Campaign when I was at the "Member" rank, unknowing of the trouble that would bring me in.

After this has been sorted out, I became more and more active on the german board and soon reached the Full Member Rank. Around that time a place in the Roobet Signature Campaign was open and after eyeballing that campaign since I registered here, Hhampuz accepted my application on my first try. I was so excited that I even designed my own avatar, inspired by the hats on the wallobserver thread and another german member (cygan) that also has his own avatar for the freebitco.in campaign.
This was an amazing feeling as I was now more and more active here and even doing my own giveaways/raffles to give back to the guys that supported me along the way.

Autumn/winter came by and I reached Senior Member Rank which I would not have thought I would be able to do in 2021.
As of today I am already half way through to being a Hero Member which gets me excited even more.

If anyone feels like supporting me, I would appretiate it so much if you would nominate me for the discovery of the year but I do understand that there are so many users in this forum with so much knowledge that it is probably unrealistic for me to win especially being more active on the german forum part.

Thanks for reading this Smiley

OP made new tread about Bitcointalk Community Awards 🏆 and have reward for answering this tread like choose some vote member and give them achievement? I see OP got many feedback after creating this tread with his points merit received.

eh, how come only you didn't think of that.
btw. What is the point of this useful statement?

He wakes up after a year of inactivity and goes straight to the 1xbit signature campaign thread? This explains a lot, including this shitpost.

I think some users are waiting until last minute to cast their votes maybe cause a tie or a tiebreaker. Who knows? icopress what happens if there is a tie btw? Will there be two winners? I see no category for the Artificial intelligence in our community it may seem as though they have integrated well in society and fooled us into thinking they are human. I’m talking about LoyceV and DdmrDdmr they are the only AI I’m aware of for now, it will be fun to see which of them wins a face-off. Skynet versus skynet

Personally, as a voting participant, it would be more clear for me to see the list of candidates with the current number of those who voted for them. Perhaps such information could prompt me to change my choice to another candidate.
Thanks for the comment, I will take your opinion into account ... but you and you should understand that creating and regularly updating such a list seems to me quite problematic (unless, of course, you are not Mr. Robot, not to mention the fact that each voter has the opportunity to edit his answer).

Even if there was such a list, the first 10 who voted would set the pace for the entire voting.  Undecided

Are you thinking of creating a list of those who have already received votes or are you not going to have that list?

Personally, as a voting participant, it would be more clear for me to see the list of candidates with the current number of those who voted for them. Perhaps such information could prompt me to change my choice to another candidate.

LoyceV has already pointed out, this won't work, since each participant can change their vote at any given time. Keeping such a list up-to-date in real time would be difficult, and besides, it would result in needless favoritism of certain candidates.

No, not always the one who sends an invitation to PM deserves a negative tag. I'll be more specific. Some time ago, an interview was conducted with forum users. Out of good intentions, the interview organizer sent personal invitations to everyone. And one day he got a negative tag from a DT member.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=trust;u=2654005
The man felt he was being forced to take part. It took a while to change the review to neutral. Why bother once again people who are not ready to do something?

That is why I said sending unsolicited PMs to a large number of members is bad idea. I am not saying zasad@ deserves a negative tag in this particular case, since he probably did so inadvertently, but there is no doubt that the rules were broken, and he probably apologized for that later on.

I also agree that this vote should be free participation. If someone does not want to write there, do not force him. Moreover, META is the central place of the forum, which most of the participants know about. And all the events there are unlikely to go unnoticed.

Agreed. Anyone interested in participating in this initiative is probably already aware of it. Moreover, there are other ways to "spread the word" that are much less intrusive.
