Do you think I'm too optimistic?It's up to icopress if he is going to make this voting as annual event, but I think it would be fun to have them on regular basis, or at least every two years. Next thing could be bitcointalk senate, government and politicians of bitcointalk forum.
This event is already annual ... just for a number of reasons, voting began not in December, but at the end of January.This year, I hope everything will be in order and we will return to the usual December schedule.
I hope someone neutral is controlling what icopress is doing, he is becoming very powerful forum member and we know that power can corrupt humans... icopress gang soon?! 
I'm afraid that's not possible...at least because GazetaBitcoin has reached the limit of bbcode characters in his thread about gangs. 
+ I have already bought binoculars to peep through the keyhole for that gang that is not customary to talk about ... I did not count on new expenses.

There could be two possiblities.1. They are alt so had the same spelling
2. They copy and pasted from others and did not realize the wrong spelling.
After blocking the thread, icopress will have to spend at least a day or two counting the votes to be as objective as possible (ignoring the votes of copy-paste, spammers, newbies, and anyone else he sees fit).

This means that we would need to have some two tier voting systems and most of the local sections are not active enough for something like that.
To avoid complications, what we could do is to nominate and select one overall best user for each active local section, for each year, and I would support that idea.
We could also pick one best and most local member from all local sections, or something like that... this could also motivate new members to be more active.

Though, logistically you're probably right, that narrowing the local section nominations down to "Local section hero" per local section or something along that lines is probably better, than having all roles available for voting per local section.

Undoubtedly, is a factor in some votes. Unfortunately, there's no real way of mitigating it, unless you did votes that were anonymous, however that opens another can of words. Anyway, has stated already it's a drop in the ocean compared to the amount that these users require to rank up. So, its not like someone is going to rank up their alt farm this way or even their account that they just do bounties on. As bad as it makes me feel, I will also not give any Merits to people voting for me.

Yeah, I am very well aware of the requirements that has to be met to get that voucher but that doesn't mean shitposters are, hence so many came to vote. Hopefully some of them copy/paste other members votes and get rekted. There's another reason why they come to vote without probably knowing any of the names that's been thrown around and that's vouchers of 2 mbtc that 10 lucky voters gonna get.
