The desire to drop soldiers behind enemy lines dates back centuries

"Where is the prince who can afford so to cover his country with troops for its defence, so that ten thousand men descending from the clouds might not, in many places, do an infinite deal of mischief before a force could be brought together to repel them?"

Ruble hits new 2015 record, resilient to sinking oil.
Despite so called sanctions, Russia is getting stronger economically, politically and in international stature.

Ruble is now stable, trading in the 53-55 range versus the USD. A few weeks ago, it was trading at 58-62. Exports are growing due to the devaluation, and the Russian manufacturing sector is now very attractive due to the fall in real wages.

While Ukraine moves further and further into the territory of a failed state, LNR is gaining even more statehood.
They now completed demilitarization of the various armed groups that fought for Lugansk republic, concentrating the military forces in Lugansk Army. The military groups were given time to turn in their weapons to the central government of Lugansk Republic.

This "demilitarization" is not that simple. The Cossacks are refusing to give up their authority, citing the corruption within the LNR administration. In the past few weeks there have been multiple deadly confrontations between the two sides, killing dozens of people. The murder of "Batman" (Alexander Bednov) by the LNR army was just once of such incidents.

Watched a report the other day about a 90-year-old WWII veteran, who had to flee from Lugansk region last year. He left behind his war-time medals in his house in Lugansk region, fearing that Ukro-nazis would kill him and his family should they find those medals with him. HE now got Russian citizenship and a housing in Adygeja Republic.

Lavrov made an interesting statement, saying that both the German and the French heads are well-aware of the Kiev's violations of Minsk-2 agreements, but are too afraid to speak up.

The New Silk Road marks the Atlantic sunset and the rise of Eurasia

April 7, 2015
Interpolit
Translated by Kristina Rus

The Chinese concept of a "New Silk Road" acquired new important features - Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Wang Yi, announced about the plans for establishment of the China-Mongolia-Russia economic corridor. Thus, the trans-Eurasian road will go two ways - Europe and China will be connected through Russia and through Central Asia. And this is not economy, it's pure geopolitics. ...

The oblasts of  Donetsk, Kharkov and Lugansk are the most hardcore pro-Russian provinces. It will be interesting to know the situation in Kherson, Odessa.etc.

You can add Odessa to the list of hardcore pro-Russian provinces. Moreover, Odessa is situated very near to Transdniester, a Russian rebel state. Kherson is the most pro-Ukrainian of the South-East Ukrainian provinces. But even there pro-Russians are a majority.

Yes, Russia is *still* ready for war – even nuclear war

From The Saker

On March 1st of last year I wrote an article entitled “Obama just made things much, much worse in the Ukraine – now Russia is ready for war” in which I wrote the following: “I hope and pray that Obama, and his advisers, stop and think carefully about their next step, because make no mistake about that RUSSIA IS READY FOR WAR.”  Using bolded red caps was my hope to get everybody’s attention, including the various US analysts reading my blog and thinking that maybe I knew a little something about Russia.  This was the first time in my (now ex-) career as a military analyst that I delivered such a warning, and it is a sweet irony for me that it was made publicly and not behind all sorts of secrecy walls. ....

The militia have suspended POW transfer between the two sides. Should have done that earlier. There are very few actual rebels in Kiev custody. The junta soldiers are just kidnapping pro-Russian civilians from their homes in broad day light, and are claiming that these are militia members.

Speaking of Mexico, telling a Russian that the Crimea shouldn´t belong to Russia is probably about as hopeless as trying to convince Americans that The Alamo should be returned to Mexico.

Maybe they could ask to be invaded by Mexico, the nearest Spanish-speaking power. However, it may end very bad until the United States will be totally FUBAR. Wink  Grin

lol... Mexico does not need to invade the South-West United States. Already ethnic Mexicans are nearing an absolute majority in many of these states, such as California, New Mexico and Arizona. After a few decades, they will peacefully secede from the US, and join Mexico.

The proportion of users, who stated their mother tongue as Russian (blue) or as Ukrainian (red) in the popular social media VKontakte [“Russian Facebook”].

I hate to say this, but this method is not very accurate. Most of the pro-European, and therefore Ukrainian speaking people are likely to use Facebook instead of VKontakte and Odnoklassniki.

This mean nothing, this is not because you speak Russian that YOU ARE RUSSIAN .... so all spainish people speaking spainish in USA ... they can claim to get invaded by Spain  Grin

Did I say that all the Russian speaking people in Ukraine are Russians? I was pointing out to the irony that the language, which is used by 80% of the population for daily communication is banned by the Kiev junta.

Really ? Since the start all Russian claims that pensions are more then 400% .... are you sure this is lower ?
DNR get money from where to pay ? Haa yes ... let me guess ...

In Crimea, the pensions increased by 400% after they re-joined Russia. Right now, Donbass is not a part of Russia. They are independent. So understandably, the pensions won't be paid out as per the Russian standards.

And regarding the money.... DNR is collecting local taxes from coal mines and other industries. They are distributing a part of this income as pensions.
