Canaan is as profitable as S9's and they have been around for a long time. The main problem for me is that all the hardware producers are from China and their distribution departments are very weak. I want more competing companies to be  around so maybe I can easily get my hands on a non-outdated miner without having to deal with customs officers.

You probably got the picture already.

If we were sticking to GPU's instead of ASICs, we would be benefiting from the huge distribution web of NVidia/AMD (or Sony, HP, whatver you name)

But instead, we have a couple of ASIC manufacturers and one of them is already evil. ( and  yes i will never ever purchase a miner from Bitmain , because they work against bitcoin) And both of them only sell their hardware in limited numbers and they go out of stock in a blink of an eye.

We need more competition. Hopefully we will get it in 2018

Are you seriously asking why would someone buy these miners rather than Bitmain? Let me give a couple of reasons:
- Because buying miners from Jihan Wu is like supporting your enemy. The guy is doing everything he can to destroy the coin you want to mine - BTC
- Because you can not buy Bitmain with BTC. True story, go check their site. Only altcoins accepted. Trading BTC for shitcoins to buy a miner also undermines your currency.
- Because Bitmain has cornered the market, in periods when mining is with real ROI he mines with newly produced miners, when it is not he is selling them to you. Once this monopoly is broken, hopefully by DragonMint and some others, you may have a chance to buy a miner when it's profitable to mine

Everyone blames the one successful hardware company in the space because they are successful.

1. His companies miners are what run the BTC network. You claim he is the enemy but do you even know anything about him other than what biased people say about him to further their agenda? Please show me what actual destruction he has brought to the ecosystem that would be nothing without his company.

2. Converting bitcoin to something else doesnt destroy or undermine it in any way. Trading in or out of bitcoin adds to its market volume and shows that it is a store of value people want and have been using.

3. Its absolutely his companies right to mine on their own hardware. They spent the money to design, build, and test it. Guess what? Even the s7 is still a profitable machine, so how can you claim you dont have a chance to buy a miner that is profitable? If you bought an s7 new, you have made thousands and thousands of dollars in BTC from it. There is no other investment with as short of an ROI as bitcoin miners.....yet people are still unhappy.

Well oh blind one, guess you never heard of Canaan.io (Avalons), or hotmine.io (Bitfury based), or eBang eh?All are proven, miners.
We have MANY options for BTC miners other than Bitemain and ALL take BTC as well as other means of payment.

My current favorite is the A741's.Why? #1 is extremely reliable. #2, Available fairly often and quickly through Canaan's Authorized distributors.

It has been my experience that the above miners are ALL overpriced by the time I hear about them. (also hard in that usually just heard about them

and the old ...are they legit refrain...with exception of Avalon)

and usually, you have to order in some manner in BULK ..usually 5 units....

now IF I was in China and/or a Chinese speaker...perhaps, I'd get more/better info..but this is usually the case by the time I hear about miners

other than bitmain

sad but true

(we need a lurker on the China version of bitcointalk to run relay to a thread here for us on stuff and vice versa)

ok... let's talk about this "Because buying miners from Jihan Wu is like supporting your enemy. The guy is doing everything he can to destroy the coin you want to mine - BTC" Is this serious? First, who cares? I mean, who is trying to protect the BTC system, or better other amazing coins like ETH and DASH? Who is caring about this philosophy? And, honestly, there is always the same.... sometimes, the bad guy are not the bad guys and the good guy are not the good guys...

This is not about philosophy at all, it's very practical. If he is destroying what you mine, what's the point in supporting him and mine BTC at the same time? The more you buy from him the weaker the position of BTC is, and the price is less stable and with more problems to grow naturally. His goal is for BTC to loose it's position as one and real Bitcoin, and to replace it with BCH. Antminer will not even sell you the miners for BTC, you have to trade them for BCH or US$ if you want to pay. What do you think happens to BTC price if you have to dump them to buy miners? You can not look at cancer from philosophical perspective, you have to fight it if you want to bring the whole organism to healthy state.

Ok. And what you propose as a solution? Don't buy Antminer S9? And who will buy? You, maybe your best friends. Sorry man, but what you are saying is philosophy... and bad quality... I'm not here to start a discussion, I'm on your side, but the price of Bitcoin is not manipulated because BCH or someone is accepting just BCH... no definitely not... it's the chef of the guy from wall street... look to JP Morgan Chase... And Bitmain is using BCH for another reasons, that it's very clear... and I don't need here to clarify this situation, just think... I'm a miner, I need Miner Machines and I need to buy with quality and support, and I decide to mine BTC... this is the case... and this is my bread! Who will sell good machine for me? With  normal price??? Who? And not used? And with guarantee... Who? Tell me?

interesting how many people send BTC for them.
it looks like 100% scam.

maybe it's them way to get rich in short time.
5 x miner ~ 1BTC, 10 people and they have got some money...

Honestly, i have mixed feeling about this. I am sitting between 2 chairs.. I am not sure is it 100% scam, or is it 100% true. Reputable member has tweeted that its real. And i dont think he would just "confirm" that something is real if its not. I dont think he would like that kind of risk. But again some things are shady with this which is the reason why i am sitting(more kind of standing haha) between 2 chairs. IF(you see how if is big? Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy ) it's true and is not scam, this is some really good breakthrough of new miner(s) and new players on market.

What do you think about this?  https://halongmining.com/

And their demonstration video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRCsQUyR7_I

Price: 1350$
PSU: 115$
Speed: 16TH/s

Honestly this looks like rip off of S9 and all what they did just put the sticker of their logo on it. But i am not sure how they can change the speed in the dashboard that shows 16TH/S...

Hi castle,

1595 and not 1350...  Sad Sad Sad Sad minimum order 5 Pieces... something around 7975

Castiel* In that given moment price was 1350$ ti was price discount because of Black Friday or something like that(not sure) after that price is regular one, as you mentioned.

BTC is based on decentralization, Hardware suppliers are the most centralized part of our industry. I for one am excited to see more decentralization in hardware. Canaan although a competitor to bitmain hadn't been able to complete on specs and price. Nice to see another player in the game.

Do keep in mind that ALL of the hardware for the Sony PS4 line comes from someone else.
If they DID make a miner, the chips for it would probably be sourced from AMD....

This is an ideological purchase for many bitcoiners

Sometimes, I remember how many times I was skeptical to mine... I'm IT-Specialist with strong background in Administration and Development, about 16 years of professional experience and what I would like to say is, your point is really true, but there is many factors on this game, that we are just small workers... as you said... it's definitely a sad market and the most problem comes form these companies, not from us... we make the hard job, we test this equipment, and we are always with a lot of stress... etc...

But now, I need to be clear with you, about you have quoted, Dragonmint announcement.
It's the same like iBelink about DASH Mining and I don't believe that they will "better" or "good", it always the same, it's everything about money and business, there is no philosophy, BITMAIN is BITMAIN, because they are based in China and they have some interest to have clients around the world... they have the production, they have a lot of workers, money and they want to establish as a traditional company and always comes bigger and bigger... like a real ANT... if you look, it's not just for fun that they choose this name, Antminer... they are not kidding or just trying... the want and they are the biggest company. About to support Jihan Wu, who cares? If every miner cares about his, or some philosophy like this, the Bitcoin would not be the most legal (and illegal) profitable investment at the moment, but just an IT-Solution for Finance Market, maybe, something like Linux at the Computer World, but Bitcoin, just now it reaching 9.000 USD (1 BTC = $8900.2900) and it's hard fighting against your bad daughter, the Bitcoin Cash (yeah who's is really bad) ... with another words, Bitcoin is THE TECHNOLOGY that it's changing the world because it's changing the finance market and the big guy don't know what to do... but they are still on the control... And they know very well how someone can manipulated the finance market... ok... let's talk about this "Because buying miners from Jihan Wu is like supporting your enemy. The guy is doing everything he can to destroy the coin you want to mine - BTC" Is this serious? First, who cares? Well facts so far

1) exactly looks like a Bitmain S9 miner more or less.

2) No info of any real note about the makers of this.

3) Someone supposedly stuck 30 million into competing against Bitmain ...rather than just crypto> (are you nuts?)

4) Supposedly 30% more efficient when it arrives

5) for $1,350.00 USD sometime in Feb of 2018

ON just the last point (5) even if it DID EXIST (doubtful) why would you give them your hard earned BTC now....at $1350 price
when likely in 2 weeks Bitmain will come out with another batch of S9's at say about $1,200.00 USD....at best by the time you got these
if lucky..would you not just be swapping oranges for oranges.....at that price no real diff between units ..due to the fact you can get the S9
NOW 3 months early?

too many points to point to it as a scam so I call scam

Your point is taken...

my view was more on the $$$ vs 3-4 month wait and of course..if you expect your BTC to PUMP why would you spend it on any miner at this time?

maybe after the chinese new year 2018 a guy could look at this and decide...but of the many flavors of asic miners..nothing, imho makes sense $$$ vs BTC wise

and of course your point of "being Bitmain and evil and all" also

but my point is still legit imho, even if dragon mint is legit.... damn hard to justify with 3-4 months to arrival at that price etc..just saying

add the other 'coincidences' and lack of info on founders..and it looks more then weird imho

This did not make me comfortable. I don't think it's real.

I just looked at their 'dubious' site...you can only order 5 at one time ..no less

I also made fake everything to see it if went to one BTC address for giggles..nope...they use bitpay..so a BTC address generated for each user/order

Just in case anyone is interested..it was 0.999 BTC for 5 units with shipping ..I thought that was kinda funny or at $8.472.52 USD for 5 of them, with current BTC price.

that is $1,694.50 USD each with shipping.....

NOW, what makes more sense...keeping that 1 BTC and watching it grow for the next 3 months (if late like most such things call it 4 months) or

paying $1,450.00 USD from Bitmain for an S9 13.5TH now (vs their 16th)

better yet...if you are expecting 10k BTC in the next 3 months....WHY NOT JUST HODL!

even if this miner is legit. (which I think is unlikely) it still sucks as a purchase, IMHO.
