Ajax have been consistently in 1st or 2nd place for a decade. In the 2022/2023 season they are in third place and last season was their worst performance in 10 years because they were only able to finish in fifth place in the standings. But I still believe Ajax will be able to perform better this season. I am not sure about their chances of winning the League but I am sure Ajax will be a title contender again. Twente and AZ Alkmaar performed surprisingly last season but I doubt they will be able to maintain their performance like the previous season.

In the first week of the Dutch league, there were no surprises. Last season's champions PSV started the league in a good way by defeating their rival Waalwijk with 5 goals in their first league match.
Another team that managed to get a different win was Groningen. It was also a good week for Groningen, who won 4-1 at home against NAC Breda.

Since Erik ten Hag left Ajax, he caused Ajax to decline a lot and opened space for Feyenoord to start having real chances of winning the title, even in the case of PSV, they started to be a team that fights for the title after Erik ten Hag left Ajax, before Erik ten Hag became Ajax coach, Feyenoord had won the title when the coach was Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

The bigger problem of Ajax is not just the coach that left, but the fact that they constantly sell off their star players. I know this is something they are known for since they have a very good academy but I think it's starting to catch up with them.
Since the season they had a very good Champions League run where they got to the semi-final, they've sold almost all their star players. Players like Frenkie, De Ligt, Shone, Tadic, Van De Beck, Neres, Blind, Antony and many more players have been sold.
Selling players when you don't have replacements is always a bad move. I believe they will get back with time because they also have a good recruiting team but they have to take this as a warning if they want to remain a relevant club in the league.

I agree with everything you said, Ajax are still not at the same good level they were in the past and in the game against Heerenveen they didn't lose only because Heerenveen's attacking players were not very inspired, Heerenveen players managed to make good passes, created good opportunities, but when it came to finishing they made mistakes, I believe that Robin van Persie needs to get better players to improve Heerenveen's attack, while Francesco Farioli will have a lot of work to do to improve Ajax and from what I see, this season Ajax only signed Bertrand Traoré who comes from Villareal, and they brought Christian Rasmussen from Ajax B, honestly I don't see Ajax being able to win the title, I see Ajax finishing in second or third place

If you look at previous history, over the last 3 seasons the top five positions in the Eredivise have always been filled by Ajax, PSV, AZ Alkmaar, Twente and Feyenoord. This shows their consistency and an increasingly competitive league. I remember that the EPL used to have big four which referred to the top 4 clubs which always belonged to City, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Tottenham. Maybe we can call this the big five in the Eredivise. Next season Ajax has the motivation to win the league championship. Az Alkmaar and Twente must be able to maintain the consistency of their game because they have slumped in the last few matches.
Last season Ajax wasn't very good with their performance and cannot be seen amongst the big four or five, they couldn't even make it to the top five but lets se how they g o about it this season if they are goin to get any better by the new season because the season is goin to be another chance for them to maybe do better than they had done last season and then they have always been. but before now, i know Ajax has always been at the top of the table on their league which has been what they have been able to achive a very long time except for last season where they had some challenges that got them performing poorly.
Ajax having good development as their performance is good but still this was good match because we are having Van Persie's first game as coach of Heerenveen things were looking on level in first half but at the end we are having goal for the Ajax through Hlynsson in second half we have good aggressive approach from the Heerenveen but Ajax defense were alert, and they give no chance to visitors for having any chance of coming on level.

PSV is on fire as we have them in last season, but Feyenoord is struggling hopefully we will have them back into good performance after few games because few days back they beat PSV on penalties in Super Cup which give them good confidence for the coming season and having good chance of keeping things at the top.

Without any doubt PSV done impressive work but now can they keep things at this level, or we are having some problems which is surely going to be another advantage for the Ajax but still things could be exciting in this next season, and we will have all matches full of entertainment and things could tough for the top five teams to keep themselves at their spots.

The season's games have started, and I must admit that the result of one of the games left me very shocked. I'm talking about this game:

Feyenoord 1 - 1 Wilem II

This was a game in which Feyenoord was seen as the favorite to win the game. The odds for Feyenoord to win the game were @1.12. Looking at the squad of these two teams and because Feyenoord is a contender to win the league, they have been a very strong team in recent years, I thought that Feyenoord would win this game easily, especially when they scored a goal after just 12 minutes. Feyenoord dominated the game, they had 72% possession, they had 22 shots, 7 of which were on target. but unbelievable that Wilem II only made 2 shots, of which only 1 was on target, and in the 82nd minute they scored the equalizer. Shocked

PSV won
AJAX won

Maybe this season Ahax will be able to achieve better results compared to the last two seasons

It's funny that PSV and Feyenoord in the last 8 years even when they change coaches, they continue to play well, while in the case of Ajax when coach Frank de Boer left the team fell for years, then Erik ten Hag came and recovered the team, but he left and the team declined a lot. The first rounds will determine whether Ajax has improved and whether PSV or Feyenoord will be title contenders again. The big 3 teams will have easier games in the first round. But in my opinion, if Feyenoord can play well throughout the next season like they did in this game against PSV, then they could be champions.
Change of coaches are normal thing for the clubs, but we need to check few things about Ajax as Erik ten Hag leave club we have few big players also follow him this was the turning point for club and Ajax suffer badly even they were into relegation zone for sometime as well, but now things are coming back to normal we are having good improvement into their performance so they are fighting hard for having spot into UEFA Europa Cup.

In last 14 years, we are having no winner other than Ajax 7 times PSV 4 times and Feyenoord 2 times, so Eredivisie is dominant by these clubs in near future I am having no changes because we are having no strength in any other club to challenge them for the title race just because of these things have never been entertaining here in this league.

Super Cup final was such great season opener. I think that many expected that it will be high scoring game, but damn, 4:4, who saw it coming. It was such roller coaster and game winner wasn't decided after 90 minutes. We had penalty shootout where underdogs Feyenoord were more confident and didn't missed anything.
New Eredivisie season begins next week already.
They played a great match with PSV. It seemed to me that Feyenoord was playing better throughout the match. I don't think anyone expected the 4-4 score. It was a great match for the Super Cup. I congratulate Feyenoord for winning the championship on penalties. They are the biggest candidate for the Dutch league championship this year.

Feyenoord were in aggressive mindset from the start of the game just because of this we have lead for them at the end of first half but in second half we have good counter-attack from the PSV just because of their change strategy and having better aggressive approach PSV were in good control and score three goals.

As we have start of the season for both sides look like we are going to have another cracking season between these two teams because both are having same approach and their attack is also effective just because of this we are having the good number of goals in this opener of the new season.

Ajax need some more time for having back into title hunt because they are having no enough quality for competition we need more time with better quality in this season.

By the looks of this new Ajax team , I'm afraid they won't even catch top 3 in Eredivisa 2025 season and I'm afraid Ajax won't even catch a deep run in International trophies because they barely qualified against Vojvodita in Europa League and next game will be against Panathinaikos and I think Ajax will end up in Conference League because I cannot see them winning this series.

I personally think that PSV will go back 2 back win and get another trophy but I could see Feyernoord as runners up followed by Alkmaar and then Twente or Ajax.  Grin

PSV 4 - 4 Feyenoord

This was a very intense game, there were 8 goals in total and there were 3 penalties. PSV was the first team to score a goal, they scored in the 8th minute, but in the 29th minute the PSV defender made a serious mistake by bringing down the Feyenoord player and so the referee awarded a penalty and Feyenoord scored an equalizer. I thought the foul that the PSV player committed was very unnecessary. After the penalty, Feyenoord scored the 2nd goal again and Feyenoord could have scored the 3rd goal in the 1st half, but they wasted a great opportunity and unfortunately for Feyenoord, PSV then scored an equalizer.

In the 2nd half the PSV goalkeeper made a mistake by bringing down the Feyenoord player and the referee awarded a penalty which resulted in Feyenoord's 3rd goal. In my opinion this was a game in which PSV made some serious mistakes which is why they lost the game. But I also congratulate Feyenoord for playing very well.

I am super excited after watching start of new season here at the Eredivisie because having 8 goals in game is really entertaining while I was not expecting Feyenoord are going to have performance like this few time I have feeling they are going to win this game in regular time but de Jong denied them through 81st minute penalty.

While watching game having goals from both teams is always amazing we have two quality teams and both give their best for win and having good booster for the next season Ajax is also doing good, so things could be interested in this season for all these top teams to compete for title.

Now we have just few days left in start of new season all top teams are going to have easy home games for their start look like we are going to watch rain of goals on first day of new season.

If Ajax keep firing their managers then I think the future for Ajax will be quite bad. They are through to the European Cup qualifiers next season but it looks like they won't be able to go any further. I think they should be able to follow the example of other teams like City or Liverpool who give coaches the opportunity to build their squad. There are many examples of other clubs but sorry I don't think I can give an example from the Eredivise. But at least Ajax should start to stop firing coaches without letting them coach a season or two and monitoring the team's development.
Nothing beats building a squad, when a team gets to build their squad well enough, you see that they later have a very firm and strong team that will be able to get them to winning trophies and getting the team to glory ways just as they should be.  Ajax last season  started off terribly tho they later tried getting better but it was later already and one factor that led to them suffering all of that was in this firing of their coach and now they got one who helped them anticipate a good form and improvement, if they continue in that spirit just like you mentioned it's going to be a really long season for them till they attain some kind of stability.

Ajax have opened the new season before PSV and Feyenoord with Europa League qualification matches.  Smiley  They looked good in friendly matches first and they didn't have big issues with eliminating Vojvodina also. But until seeing them defeating tougher opponents I don't want to be confident of them. At least for now, it looks like they are well-prepared.

On the other hand in the Johan Cruyff Shield match, I see Feyenoord look readier than PSV.  Cool  They got 2-1 ahead with a comeback and the match is really entertaining. PSV have a 3-title streak in this tournament so do you think it will be broken by Feyenoord today?

Time to bump this topic - club football is returning back to action and on Sunday we have Dutch season opener - Johan Cruyff Shield or in other words Super Cup between PSV and Feyenoord. We don't really know what to expect from teams as we only can judge from friendly games, what isn't good indicator. I'm probably going to put money on BTTS and over 2.5 goals if wodds won't be too low.

The whole Barcelona tiki-taka was invented at Ajax by Cryuff and yet they are not playing with any system these days, because they keep firing managers before they build a system. I think if they really wanted to, they could have hired someone better, they just do not look at manager position as a vital part and just want to get young players they can sell for more later on.
