Brand new to the cryptocurrency market.  Currently I hold a decent amount of LTC.  It's value has gone up nicely since I purchased it.  I've read all the predictions for LTC in 2018 and 2019.  It sounds promising as a long term hold...which is what I'm more comfortable doing...to reach $200 -$300 a coin.   I like the fact that there is a team in place trying hard to ensure it's future.  Charlie Lee may not be the most charismatic spokesman publicly but he's out there doing it which gives me confidence in his product.  Now, it's obvious that ETH is not going anywhere.  My question for the board is which outperforms the other in the next 5 years?  I tend to invest heavily in the direction that has the bigger upside.  Perhaps I should split my investing 50/50 regarding ETH and LTC?  What say the more experienced cryptocurrency gurus?

I have nothing against BTC.  I don't see it going anywhere.  It is the giant.  However, I feel the current price point is too high for my liking.

Thanks
If I were you, I will go for ETH. Eth has been proven that it will last long in its price. After how many years, the price pump up about 50%  so many people choose this. ETH, LTC, and DOGE were compete in the cryptoworld and many of us choose these cryptocoins to have a big profit from them. If you have a doubt in eth, you can split your money into 40/60 or 50/50.

You have to look at them not stand-alone, but in the context of the crypto industry.

If we take reference as BTC, what will be the price target for next 2 years? 10k in 2018 and 15k in 2019? So it's +80% vs today.

The will ETH or LTC price go quicker then that? If so, it's worth it to hold, otherwise no.

For long term investment I prefer ETH, not LTC which is not good for future investment, but everyone is very different, maybe for now I prefer to choose ET for long term investment in the future.

But remember before ETH , LTC was the first currency that able to compete on 2nd position for a long period of time.
As for now, LTC's trend is on downtrend and ETH take the lead, if possible, you can invest both of them but for me personally, I'm prefer ETH for long term investation

If it's me, I'll invest in both of them because they are both capable of high returns in the long run. Ethereum is one of the most popular cryptocurrency on the market and is master of all smart contracts. This is the most popular platform for hosting ICOs and can help you achieve high performance in the long run. Litecoin is like a bitcoin fork and nothing more.

Both are very good. But Litecoin is the safest because its volatility is one of the lowest among all altcoin

ltc and eth prices are almost very stable but ltc little bit more stable , but if we seen from usage between eth and ltc of course eth will win.

ETH seems to be used much more than LTC. On most exchanges the gas tax is in ETH, you can use this as an indicator. So I'd say, in the long run, definitely ETH. Anyway, just to be sure, don't get rid of all your LTC just yet.

Ethereum has a potential to overcome Bitcoin in capitalisation, because they are planning to move on to PoS which means mining will be no longer needed and token supply will be pretty much locked after that.
Also Buterin looks like he has pretty clear view on how to develop his project.

Not sure it's really about which is better more about what people feel confident with - I think confidence in Eth is growing rapidly (obviously it helps with the fact it's not going to encounter similar issues to bitcoin). Ltc's days are numbered, Eth will out grow Ltc and likely Btc eventually. I was thinking Xtz was going to rival everything but things are looking a little bleak for the Breitmans right now but that's a whole new discussion in itself.

I'd say Ethereum for sure. Actually eth in my opinion is one of the best coins on the market right now.
It's fast, fees are low, has a unique smart contract system which is amazing and allows you to do a lot (actually almost anything you would like to include in a contract).

What more do you want from a coin ? It offers literally everything that any other coin does and more.
I'm guessing that ETH price will go crazy in the coming years. Just wait and see.

Usually when people talk about any coin going up in value up to the price of btc itself, I usually argue saying that no coin will ever come near but a part of me believes that eth does have the potential to do so.

I think if it weren't for mining, the price could've been much more. Since all the miners, sell all their mined coins on a daily basis, the growth in price is somewhat slow.
I'm confident that once ETH turns Proof Of Stake(which is unknown to this day) it will go up in a much faster manner.

LTC is the gold old friend that I usually use when transferring funds from one exchange to the other as it has the lowest fees compared with anything else (btc, eth, zcash). But it's been around almost since btc started getting attention so I guess it might go up as well. But only because it's old enough and nothing else.

Like everyone here I prefer ETH for the long term since it's technology and its uses (also, I'm not invested in LTC at all).

Answer is very obvious, there's a bigger community and support for ETH while LTC there's not that much. There are people who are into LTC but why not just keep on holding both of it for longer term? I don't doubt ETH neither LTC for holding in long term plans. Developments from these two coins are actively supported by it's devs Charlie and Vitalik is totally active so we are winning for having these two.

I think you should split your investment 50% on LTC and 50% on ETH, ETH will have  a bright future its price is scaling up during last days.
Ethereum is undervalued right now but experts say there is a good chance it will reach $500 by the beginning of 2018. During the first six month of 2017, ethereum transaction evolved by more than 250% and since number of transactions is growing (meaning more demand on ETH) the price will follow.

I'll go with LTC. Litecoin has very low supply compare to ethereum or bitcoin. Devs of litecoin are very active. Litecoin has the potential to boom in the future. Don't miss that.

Both are good but eth is for long term investment and projectwise it more better. Although ltc has been stable and has a good future.

Both coins are good but eth is the best for sure. I  prefer eth for long or short term.
