Looks like ethereum prices are gradually increasing while bitcoin is stagnant.

That's a good thing if your main goal is to trade back and forth and using BTC as your base currency.

Basically if you invested in a coin that isnt called Ethereum you might as well pack your bags and gtfo

When you send Eth to Poloniex, it needs 720 blocks to confirm. That was about 3 months ago. I am not sure about the requirement now.

Noob question but how long does on average an Ethereum transaction take to confirm?

The targeted block time is about 20s. But it needs about 1 hour to confirm, so that is about 180 blocks.

How can the topic title be true when ETH's main usage is not even a currency ?

It's just another Net of all things of heap of scammy bullshit like BlockNET etc
..with some digital ponzi toke aspect tacked onto to it.

I think there is no difference between Eth and bitcoin. Both can be used as currency. Eth can also be used in making contracts.

I like that Ethereum gears itself more towards a decentralized internet rather than a currency, because there are a lot of challenges it takes on that bitcoin hasn't yet.

But after Ethereum succeeds in tackling those challenges, bitcoin can use the same technology, like it did to the other altcoin.

The legacy of ETH's launch is the most important aspect to me.
Fully open source ?
Fair Launch ?
Launch method ? Mining vs IPO etc.

How it started seems to be a problem from my perspective (with all you guys)

ETH is a currency though.  Ethereum is the name of the turing complete blockchain platform. Once ethereum moves to POS you will be able to use any cryptocurrency to run smart contracts on ethereum.  But ETH will be the only currency that will be used to stake in the POS.

What does POS have to do with it?

Etherum is not very popular crypto, for example look on Doge, Dash. Doge is used in a lot of sites  Grin

Bitcoin is Nr.1 crypto in the world, Ethereum is the altcoin, which do not have enough popularity - just check the altcoin using websites. Even Doge is much more popular  Wink

Ethereum is altcoin at present. But it is in active development. It has strong advocater, bitcoin does not have one.

Trends.. pandering.

They (coin pushers) all know that main stream adoption is a long dead cause.
They also know our alt scene users are aware of this.. hence the pandering !
How ?
Marketing gimmicks to divert attention from the only real useful goal... main stream ADOPTION.

So some diversion are needed to generate some activity.

ETH guys can pander to some obscure nerdy niche gimmick features all they want.. Makes no difference.

This shit will go nowhere.. ever.

The trend is block chain systems with a whole slew of shit tacked on.
But they are doomed to failure.
The only thing that does matter is a CURRENCY that beats Bitcoin.

These guys know they can't beat Bitcoin so they are trying to change the fight.

This sub forum is about CURRENCIES guys.

Etherum is my favourite coin.
Im since beginning with this project, Bought on presale and going keep my coins longterm

I think you have made good profit with the presale. I also think Ethereum has good future. But the development cost is too high.

And Etherex.  I hope it's something like what the Ripple exchange has where you can execute cross currency payments on the fly.

Whatever is the future of crypto, I just want to see and use the smart contracts platform. It's gonna put a lot of efficiency on my end.

I think the thing going for Ethereum is it's attracting the builders/developers first, which I think is their no. 1 priority.  And Microsoft offering cloud blockchain services is good for infrastructure for the said builders.  It would make it easier for them to start creating stuff on Ethereum.

But Ethereum's longterm success remains to be seen.  But honestly I like what they're up to and I'm pretty excited on what people can build on it.  This one caught my eye http://www.slock.it.  Check it out.

That one's cool too. I'm pretty much looking forward to WeiFund and EtherParty.
