I think the thing going for Ethereum is it's attracting the builders/developers first, which I think is their no. 1 priority.  And Microsoft offering cloud blockchain services is good for infrastructure for the said builders.  It would make it easier for them to start creating stuff on Ethereum.

But Ethereum's longterm success remains to be seen.  But honestly I like what they're up to and I'm pretty excited on what people can build on it.  This one caught my eye http://www.slock.it.  Check it out.

All Microsoft did was say hey we will let you install your ETH shit on our cloud services.
Whether someone does that and it ends up linked to the coins on your local exchange is another matter..
(or one day even doing something even vaguely useful remains to be seen)

IBM supposedly did some private testing on their internal networks..
In the end i heard that they went with some private code implementation.
I had said when i heard about that.. well is IBM's code they run connected to the coins on Poloniex etc ?
i was told no.
It is not... they did an internal test that was not connected.

If companies out there toy around with crypto tech privately and internally it will not have any bearing on publicly held ETH coins.

I like that they have a scripting language for contracts that is basically js. I think if the javascript community becomes hip to ethereum, they'll start integrating it with everything whether it makes sense to or not. That alone would cause a massive price increase.

Long term it's up to the devs to really come up with good tech before the bitcoin devs too. I think smart contracts are a sort of dystopian nightmare tbh, but given the current political/corporate/cyberpunkesque landscape of today, it seems likely to become popular.

I have heard many altcoins working directly or indirectly with Microsoft.Many of these attempts are just hype and will fail once people are tired of this.
Now whales are using the Microsoft news to pump and dump the coin.

All Azure is.. is a Cloud system server hosting Platform.
Bragging you can put ETH on there is fucking retarded.

In other words.. you can rent a server and do what YOU want with it.

Bitcoin is money, Eth is not focused on money. So you need money in any case, that's why Bitcoin will still be there.

The low price of Ethereum is that it has too much premine and ICO. The development is still active.

Ethereum was not able to live up to all the hype that was surrounding it
the lack of real developments is reflected on its price now
In terms of adoption you are right, Doge is way more popular but ETH has more speculation going on and more serious companies looking to adopt it

Ethereum does have more innovations than 99% of the altcoins out there and Microsoft Azure implementation might give it a big push forward, though I wouldn't hold my breath for that

BTC will the number 1 for the forseeable future and if ethereum expects to gain the traction it wants, it will have to incorporate BTC as the payment coin and use ETH just as blockchain transaction gas

Any altcoin that is purely trying to replace BTC as the world's cryptocurrency of choice is bound to fail
