7. I don't think so because than we can all download it and it will get spread more easily and he will lose money. And that is the utter most important thing for him. MONEY.

Heliox, one of the biggest reasons we are not allowing ethOS for direct download is to give the pimp team a chance to come out with their own ethminer OS. I own gpuShack, and if I provide a direct download link and release ethOS for free, I will actually make MORE money (because ethos is sponsored by gpuShack).

If we are not in agreement on this, please contact me privately and we can discuss.

6(a) If we have a power cut does the mining starts again automatic ?

If it boots again, it will start mining again. You will need to set your MOBO BIOS to BOOT ON POWER setting. This bios setting change is required for any OS to boot on power, not just ethOS.

6(b). If the SSD fails-crash what am i doing ?

The chances of the ssd failing, but if it happens, you will get a free ethOS copy sent to you via direct download.

7. Do you sell just the ethOS with a download link and how much?

Ok i got it  Cheesy
So it is one way --> Windows system with msi afterburner or similar ...

Thanks for your time Eliovp  Smiley

Of course not - I flash my GPUs to different voltages all the time...

Not only yours  Wink

But it isn't possible like it is with afterburner. You would indeed need to flash them.

Kotarius I have questions about your ethOS  Grin

1. So I just have to plug in your SSD in my mining rig and it starts to mine ?
2. no drivers needed ?
3. Can i install 'TeamViewer' in order to check my mining activity from my office ?
4. Do you use Ubuntu and then you added your custom software ?
5. Does your software support gpu undervolting ?
6. If we have a power cut does the mining starts again automatic ?
6. If the SSD fails-crash what am i doing ?
7. Do you sell just the ethOS with a download link and how much ?

I would like to buy your ethOS and support you but I need answers first.
thank you

Automatic mining is ready. Hashrate display per GPU is ready.

Quote
$ ssh [email protected]

Welcome to ethOS

ALL MINING COMMANDS MUST BE RUN AS ROOT

r = reboot
show = tail the miner output
start = manually pull start scripts and attempts to start miner
stop = force kill all miners
allow = allow miner to start from cron
disallow = prevent miner from starting from cron
helpme = show this message

define your pool locally in /home/ethos/local
define your pool remotely in in /home/ethos/remote
if a remote pool is defined, it will *always* over-write local pool

What are all the parts you can supply for it?
I've always built them as complete gamer systems, in case I want to resell them as just normal gaming rigs.
This time, I want 4 GPUs hanging on a cooled rack, PSU, and most minimal cost for the rest.
Could handle hooking them up with the proper cables.
Also are you on ebay or amazon by chance?

I do not sell on ebay or amazon. My interest is to build a brand and not to pay amazon/ebay commissions of 10% Smiley The only stuff I have for sale are listed on: http://gpushack.com/collections/gpushack

Since you are building one-off machines, you will always find good priced hardware here:

I was looking to build a 2-4 280X Mining computer.
Saw your gpushack-r9-280x and I bet that would be great during Summer.
Do you build complete mining machines, or just the risers, cards and custom fan?

I do build custom mining machines, but I would never dream of shipping them. All those loose parts will come apart during transit. Its best to build your own at home. For now, gpuShack is selling only the parts. If I ever figure out how to ship a custom mining rig, I may do that, too.

Happy to report that ethOS is able to mine on just 1 gigabyte of system ram:

Code:
07:59 PM root@e5baa6 192.168.10.102 /home/ethos # free
total       used       free     shared    buffers     cached
Mem:        990772     912996      77776         28       8308     384480
-/+ buffers/cache:     520208     470564
Swap:      4166652     184680    3981972
07:59 PM root@e5baa6 192.168.10.102 /home/ethos # ps uax | grep ethminer
ethos     3965 88.3 43.0 3510844 426176 ?      Sl   19:36  20:48 /usr/bin/ethminer -F weipool.org:5555/0x36dbc08bb0175e6443d03ba40a171e3bb27196d6/100 -G --cl-global-work 16384 --farm-recheck 100
root     15641  0.0  0.2  15944  2144 pts/0    S+   19:59   0:00 grep --color=auto ethminer

This will be useful for large-scale deployments, used 1gb ddr3 sticks can be picked up for $6 on ebay.

Second, those that bought a copy wlil soon realise that when the hype is over, you won't be there to support them.

gpuShack has been in business for over a year, and has sold over 4500 GPUs. I will not abandon anyone. Support is offered in #ethereumOS on freenode in case something unforseen happens to me.

Neither will there magical OS work with any other "new" coin.  Well not out of the box.

Litecoin mining existed for almost two years on GPUs, most of the new coin releases were scrypt. When litecoin mining died, 90% of the miners shut down. I am not interested in 10% of the business. If you remember, all those weird X11/Neoscrypt/vertcoin shit was flash in the pan that barely made any profit.

I am taking a big risk here, and if ethereum fails, so with ethos. I am prepared to take that risk.

Than what?

Only NEW algorithms will need a new OS. In that case, PIMP has promised to support them.

ethOS is being developed in a 100% clean room, from a fork of Ubuntu. Pimp is a fork of an earlier release of debian. ethOS does not share any codebase, trademarks, copyrights, intellectual property, or distribution method with pimp.

ethOS is a single-algorithm operating system meant for large-scale deployments, pimp is a multi-algorithm mining platform meant for home miners. Frankly, calling ethOS a ripoff of pimp is an insult to the pimp team's hard work and intelligence.

PS. Since release two days ago, 5 miners have secured their copy of ethOS from gpuShack. I think its time to realize that you're not the target market and you are just spamming this thread with baseless accusations at this point.

You're going to release an OS, going to charge people for it and you don't even know that it's nearly impossible to adjust voltage levels on unix based systems.

Nearly impossible is not impossible. I have managed a 400 GPU farm and have adjusted voltage on linux. Maybe I know something you don't?

I will keep saying this until people understand: this OS is for large-scale deployment.

Big farmers do not care about voltage control or frequency adjustment, both of which reduce stability at the expense of profit and increase expenses associated with management (large farms have contractors and employees). Large farms run on cheap power already. This is not an OS for people who worry about their parents kicking them out of their basement for using too much electricity.

Can we tune the GPU voltage and frequency with your OS? It is very important for us as it can reduce the power consumption a lot.

Yes. With regards to frequency tuning, we will investigate, but it seems that hashrate does not increase with core clock on ethereum. With regards to power consumption, ethereum uses about the same power as x11. You would likely only save 10-15watts at the expense of stability.

Its even worse than this , not only are you charging for software that could be worthless 6-10 months your outdated 7950 and 280x gpus on your site are pretty bad for mining Eth in the next few months with the rising DAG size.  Right now a 280x only hashes at around 22mh/s down from 26 a few months ago and a 7950 like 18 mh/s

The cards to buy right now are 380 series cards or Nvida since they have more memory and bandwith to handle the larger dag for a lot longer time.

the 7900 series cards will be useless to mine Ethereum in about three months due to the amout of power/hash

This is a lot of disinformation. Even with DAG size increasing, the best hash/cost GPUs are still the tahiti HD 7950/7970 R9 280/x. If you would like to buy a $400 GTX 980 to mine 12MH/s on it, please be my guest and do it on Windows. ethOS is for people who build farms, not gamers who take a break playing league of legends to mine crypto. You are not the target market.

Please also see https://github.com/ethereum/wiki/wiki/Ethash-Design-Rationale

QUOTE FROM SITE:
Quote
The ~0.73x per year growth level was chosen to roughly be balanced with Moore's law increases at least initially (exponential growth has a risk of overshooting Moore's law, leading to a situation where mining requires very large amounts of memory and ordinary GPUs are no longer usable for mining).

Since DAG file is 1.3gb now, in one year, according to above design rationale, it will be 2.24GB, which is way lower than 3GB. Therefore, it makes no sense to buy any GPU that has over 3GB of VRAM. In fact, the mining period will end before the DAG reaches 3GB.

PS. I am not charging for software, according to GLP license (http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/selling.en.html). Instead, I am charging for the distribution method and for support, which is extremely common in the linux world (both Ubuntu and Redhat follow portions of this model). You would be surprised how many people would rather not make a ton of ssd clones for their farm.
