I'm more of a Mclaren now than Mercedes right now. If I were to select who I'm going to go with, it's definitely Mclaren right now. They have a phenomenal start and they would probably stay that way soon. I'm just thinking how the other teams would be able to keep up with the current pace right now.

I agree that McLaren are much more impressive. They have collected nearly the double amount of points Mercedes have. Norris even successfully challenged Ferrari drivers and Perez in the last race.  Smiley

The gap between Ferrari and McLaren might look like big but not impossible to catch up. McLaren would make use of more contribution by Piastri as well while Norris is on the rise. However their start makes me excited. You know they weren't able to start this good last season. The big updates came much later. If things go their way they can finish at least in 3rd place.

As for Mercedes they really need an immediate improvement. Hamilton was in pain in the last GP. Russell couldn't be competitive against Ferrari drivers either. Mercedes needs to bring some update package quickly.

I agree about Verstappen. His dominance is just a huge one that soon bookmakers will start not even giving any odds for him to win or maybe a symbolic one such as 1.02.  Tongue

Another sprint race, hmm... This reminds me of Verstappen's comment on sprint format. He was thinking that there wasn't any need for sprint races and they should be got rid of already. As for my opinion, I'm okay with both ways. It is nice to watch more action during a weekend but I'm not a huge fan of it.

Now we know why Max Verstappen bet is not allowed for the bonus to happen. It's just too obvious that he is going to win that race.

What is gonna be the future for Alpine team? I mean we know they have the support from Renault from behind, but i surely think they are not gonna throw money without any result, and this season is gonna be a 0 result one, they need to build a new car for the next season, or are they gonna put full energy on the 2026 season with the changes on rules?

Alpine brought an underfloor update for the Chinese GP and it looks like they got some benefits from that. This helped them gain many positions this time and Ocon was so close to collect the first points for Alpine.  Smiley

Source: Si.com

The only way to even maintain their latest improvement is absolutely to spend much more money to bring better updates and bring them as quick as possible.

Alpine collected 120 points previously. It would be a huge downgrade otherwise. Alpine was actually planning to update the car significantly for this season. Maybe this was a start.  Smiley

It was a race that wasn't too boring if you like the mistakes the pit teams made during the drivers stops.
But yes agreed with you @boltz, Verstappen seems to be racing against himself. Which I noticed even from the sprint qualifying where he was basically trying to beat his own time set. The announcer even mentioned this during the shootout/qualifying race.

@emrecemsan Norris had a good race and scored a nice amount of points for McLaren who needed it to keep up with the rest of the teams on the constructors table.
Also did you see the pitcrew that fell over during the pit stop to Alpine?
https://twitter.com/AlpineF1Team/status/1781993504882733461
They didn't have the tyre's nut set properly and the car lurched forward without one of the rear wheels on it.

Verstappen even went for drifting during final lap and wanted to add some fun into his drive.  Tongue  We mostly don't see Verstappen during a race, that's a fact. Because there is really nothing to show there unless there is competition. He literally never makes mistakes during a race which is unbelievable by the way. His focus is insane!

Yes, I have seen the accident during Alpine pit stop. I hope he is okay now. Sometimes we see this kind of unfortunate events during pit stops. I can't wait for the next GP ahead in Miami already! I hope to see some fun there as well.  Smiley

At this point , Verstappen can start from P10 every race and still has a very good chance to win every race from that position which is insane! Now , I can't take anything from his driving skills because he is unique but I would love some competition for the love of F1 and for the fans who are putting their soul and money to actually watch the race. However, today race was good to watch and to be honest , I've missed China F1 and I'm glad this awesome circuit is back.

Also , did you see Martin when he interviewed the AMD ceo ? he had no idea who she was and she showed us some class when she didn't reveal who she was in front of the cameras. I simply love AMD now<3.
Had to sit back and think a second of who the CEO of AMD was because it had me thinking of the founder and CEO of Nvidia you were referring to because I didn't see that interview but seen a couple of Chinese celebrities being shown during the race.
But then found out those two CEO's are related and actually from the same small village but didn't know each other growing up:
https://observer.com/2023/08/amd-ceo-lisa-su-nvidia-jensen-huang-relative

Anyways, can talk about this having nothing to do directly with the F1 drivers/cars because we have to wait another two weeks off until the next race in Miami. Cool

The race was nice to watch for me.  Smiley  If we don't consider Verstappen's boring superiority to other drivers we watched really great rivalries.

Norris was amazing today. He didn't just finish on podium, he managed to finish between Verstappen and Perez as well. Perez really couldn't catch up with him despite having the fastest car among all teams.

I liked Leclerc's effort. He finally managed to beat Sainz as well.  Grin  He wasn't fast enough to overtake Perez to take a place on podium I'm afraid but it was still nice work done!

Alonso is still an incredible driver!  Cheesy  He still has very strong reflexes and I'm happy to hear about his 2-year contract extension. I wouldn't like to see him retiring soon.

The fact that Perez became second again is the proof that Red Bull is just another level compared to everyone else. There is no way that anyone could fight against this team anymore, they are just nowhere near other cars. I get that Max winning was expected, but Perez beating everyone else to second place shows that Red Bull car is just insane, give it to whoever is the last racer in the league right now, and they could do as well as Perez, or at least good enough that Red Bull would still win constructors cup.

I believe that we have just 1.5 seasons left, after that this new 2026 regulations will change so much and that's when F1 will get back to being great, until then we are just going to watch others and bet on who will get the third position and last podium place.

Yep , Perez didn't do anything besides driving that car like any other driver would so like you said above, that car is simply miles away from the other cars and Perez just proved that. I also think that 2026 will bring a new champion for sure but I also have high hopes for 2025 as well because RedBull domination is really killing F1 right now and I'm tired to watch them win as I was tired to watch Hamilton win , as I was tired to watch Vettel win and so on. I think the most awesome dominating era was Schumi because he had rivals in every season when he become champ and today it's just Max Verstappen against no one.

I would have loved to have some rain on Sunday as this circuit on rain is mega enjoyable to watch but also to drive. Maybe with a bit of luck , weather will change but like you said , the chances for a rain are actually very low.

Congrats for Norris for winning sprint qualifiers and personally I didn't expect Norris to win but I usually don't expect much from him in general as I think Piastri is way better than him and in time , he will show this.

Piastri is really talented and full of surprises. He won a sprint race in the previous season as well you know.  Smiley  I think Norris and Piastri's talent levels are close to each other but it is hard to say who has more potential for me.

I'm pretty sure Norris has a more powerful car now so it is difficult to just consider Norris is better. I would like to see them at equal terms.  Grin

@boltz & @emrecemsan
It seems that Lewis Hamilton loves and strive in these conditions because it was a really good run from him in the sprint qualifying. Looks like the rain woke up some of the drivers including him:
https://racingnews365.com/hamilton-i-came-alive-once-rain-hit-china-sprint-shootout

Wasn't sure if to call it a sprint shootout or not as some sportsbooks still have it labeled as this on their sites.
But they did change it to qualifying instead for this year and since China is the first track of the season to see this new format we will see it for a few more tracks so to get use to it.

Hamilton has always loved to driver under rainy weather conditions. He is still showing what he can do even with a much slower Mercedes car.  Smiley  However today in qualifying there wasn't any rain and Mercedes had a really bad day.

The reason why Hamilton couldn't qualify for Q2 was his big mistake at the second last turn. Russell was also struggling. McLarens finished ahead of Ferraris which was impressive. However at racing pace I think Ferraris are likely to have a better race than them.

Indeed! Sprint qualifying session was really interesting thanks to rain. Seeing really surprising results can make the sprint race more exciting at the same time. However it is too early I'm afraid and probably I won't be able to watch it.  Tongue

The current weather predictions for this race weekend:

It looks like there isn't much chance to rain tomorrow and on Sunday. It could have really made the race much more interesting if it was to rain. The weather tells us that Verstappen will take pole position and win the race for now but we will see.  Grin

Sprint qualifying just ended and it was a fight in the rain since the very start.
Hamilton was looking like he was going to be taking pole position but then Norris came up clutch to take it away from him in the end.
All cars including Verstappen were unsteady in every turn and slipping and sliding all over the track.

Back to our race schedule for the coming weekend this time on the Shanghai International Circuit for the Lenovo Chinese Grand Prix!

https://sportsbet.io/sports/formula-1/formula-1/chinese-grand-prix-2024-race/matches

Yes, it is time for some action again! Sprint race and qualifying are on the same day which makes me feel different. There are only 3 hours between the sessions however it will be nice to see performance changes in 2 sessions by short time gaps - except Verstappen though as he would probably be dominant in both sessions.

Mercedes drivers couldn't make a good start at all you know. I'm wondering if we will see some improvements finally by the 5th race in the season. On the other hand Sainz is 3-0 ahead against Leclerc so far. Do you expect that this would be the race for Leclerc to finally finish ahead of him?
This will be the first time these drivers would have seen this track since back in 2019 due to lockdown of the region. So don't know really what to expect.
Yes it will be the first time for this new sprint format and the first for the 2024 season:
China will also stage the first sprint of 2024, and the format for this year has been tweaked.
The shootout for the sprint will now take place on Friday afternoon after a single practice session earlier in the day.
The sprint itself will be held on Saturday morning, with the main qualifying for the grand prix following later in the day.
