Verstappen didn't even make an attempt to overtake Russell. It was a great job by Russell to finish the whole race with 77 laps old tires without a mistake.  Smiley

Leclerc finally did it and won a GP at home. He said that the last 15 laps went really emotional for him as he was thinking about his father and Jules Bianchi at the same time.  Sad  Good for him really and hope to see him in the championship race for a long time.

I hope we have more fun on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve next time.  Roll Eyes

The Canadian GP wasn't held in 2020 and 2021 due to covid. The winner of the last 2 years is Verstappen. He took the pole position in both races as well so it wouldn't be surprising to see another domination by him.

Was a shock to hear that from the announcer after he won. Didn't he make it to second or third in the previous season? That might have been the other Ferrari driver from what I recall from the watching the celebrations from last year.
He wasn't able to win at all before the 2024 Monaco GP. In 2022, he started in pole position but there was a pit stop strategy that became a tragedy. With him being in pole position in 2021 and 2022, but just unlucky. I remember that there is a thing such as the "curse" because he cannot win at the previous times and at least now that is broken.

Leclerc wins this race in his home country for the first time. What was even more of a surprise hearing he had not received a podium at Monaco in his career either.

Max Verstappen had his worst race since 2018 according once again from the race announcers.
So do your own research is always advised. Wink

This weekend it is grand prix less in F1 and continue on June 7th at the beautiful Circuit Gilles Villeneuve track.

That Leclerc pole position was blinking at the beginning already. The odds were 4.00 as you can remember. Congrats on the winnings for the people who bet on then.  Smiley

Piastri was the biggest surprise of the session I think. His odds for pole position even increased a lot after FP sessions ended. But he finished quite near Leclerc.

As for Verstappen... It was a really disappointing session for him. He wasn't satisfied with the setup even a bit. Locking his tyres in a critical moment cost him starting as the 6th. He must be so angry that he stated he didn't care about carrying Red Bull to podium in the race.

The current odds for the winner of the race:

Ok, so who is taking Max pulling a miracle at 12:1 ?
I would have bet against Max ever having odds of over 10:1 in a  race before this but, wow..

Going with Ferrari winning, over two safety cars, over 3 race leaders, and thinking of Ferrari vs McLaren for the fastest lap...
Yup, I hope for a messy race!

Here we have the updated odds for the qualifying winner.  Smiley

FP3 has ended by the way and Leclerc was the fastest, no surprise.  Grin  Verstappen is having issues in the 2nd and 3rd sectors while being able to compete with Leclerc in the 1st sector. If this persists then Leclerc should be able to capture the pole position. I hope Leclerc doesn't have any accident during his home GP. And I hope the pit crew doesn't mess up again like they did in 2022 Monaco GP.

By the way, Hamilton is still very fast after FP3. He can also be considered like a surprise bet.  Wink

I do not think that Charles would be able to win it all that easily, and I do not think that he has that much chance. One of the main reasons is that we have seen Max be faster all the time and all Charles had to do was pass Max which could have been possible on a good day, Max doesn't have a great car anymore, the difference between them is growing smaller and smaller, like as in if one mistake happens then Charles could take it.

However, we also have Norris now, who is faster, pİastri is almost there too, Norris already won one race and last week if he had one more lap then he could have past again. So not only Charles has to pass Max but he also has to pass Norris (also fight with Perez and Piastri as well) which is quite important.

We are off to Monaco this weekend for the F1 Grand Prix in sunny Monte Carlo where Leclerc is the only hope for the home country fans to claim victory on the Monegasques track.

He is 4.5 odds to win practice 1 which might be a good bet infront of his home fans,
For the race he is 5x, Max is 1.7 odds which is highest odds i have seen for him in a while, so leclerc @ 5 might not be a bad bet either
If it is something that you can risk losing then go and bet on Leclerc. I am interested in betting myself you can never know who can overcome this. There are some advantages to having the home country fans at your back. It somehow creates a wave of strong feelings and could give the necessary boost to the performance of the driver. Maybe he would take more risks than ever to show what he is capable of.

After leaving a pretty boring Imola race, we are in another race week thankfully. But oh, it is Monaco GP though.  Tongue

Qualifying performance is everything here as you know. Because the track is so tight that it is too difficult to overtake someone. Pit strategies play a crucial role obviously.  Smiley  By the way there have been recommendations for this track like making the tunnel exit go straight to the Tabac by removing the Nouvelle Chicane. But they just don't listen...

Anyway the odds for the qualifying are as below. 2.41 for Verstappen while 4.00 for Leclerc - Norris. I guess I will try Leclerc pole here as he has always been very assertive for taking the pole in Monaco - which is his home too.  Smiley

So Max won, Hamilton got 6 places by a fluke, and Perez did his worst so no double podium for Redbull, the only miss was the fastest lap and combo winner, lost the 5-10 seconds and won the under 5, compared to the previous race where I got completely wiped this is way better, not making it up yet but on its way!
And yeah, Ferrari is as usual not impressive, those changes might be working on another circuit, (let's see the sessions on Monaco) but I'm not taking any chances even with the home-ground advantage or whatever, meanwhile Max is at 1/100 for the overall win, even this late scare hasn;t done a thing o the odds.  Cheesy

Here we have the race on a clear and perfect Sunday for the F1 Grand Prix in Imola!

Verstappen might have tricked many in thinking he was falling off the leaderboard for the last and this race.
Some got him at 2.20x for qualifying yesterday but he takes pole position for this one.
It should be one not to miss since both McLaren and Ferrari won't make easy for him or Red Bull.

And as I said it, the bookies were not impressed by Ferrari upgrades and seems like they were on the money for the qualifying,
Quote
Nobody from the top 10 is shorting in the market other than Max for the winner of the race, but I feel tempted about the qualifying winning team, RB is 8/15.
Leclerc is already sliding from 10:1 to 11:1 and Sainz from 17:1 to 19:1, of course race is not qualifying but still no confidence in them winning.

No point in chasing winner unless you want to spread the bets on all 4 of Max contenders and pray Perez is not going to surprise anyone , hardly to find anything of value but betting against both Red Bulls on the podium at 1.8 and Max doing the fastest at 1.6 or combo at 2.0, it starts becoming attractive at those odds, for pure gambling on accidents happening and have Lewis Hamilton in top 6 at 1.9

Browsing around, huge gap in the winning margin between bookies,

one might feel tempted to take 2 out of 3.

Once again Piastri proves that is way stronger than Norris right ? In his 2nd year in F1 and he shows that he grows from race to race , from a lap to another so I really appreciate this kid more and more with each race I watch even if watching F1 in 2024 is kinda boring because of RedBull domination.

However , hopefully tomorrow Max won't win and the race will be entertaining to watch and with a bit of luck Piastri can win the race as the car allows him to.  Cool

It was such a great performance by Piastri, definitely! However we have got bad news about him  Sad: Piastri loses front-row grid slot after penalty for impeding Magnussen

He is still a rookie in F1 but he will get more experienced in time. He has lots of potential for sure and who knows maybe he will be more successful than Norris in time.  Smiley

By the way Verstappen must be really crazy! After the qualifying session he joined iRacing 24-Hour Nurburgring event.  Grin  His part of the race starts here: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/2149236007?t=08h35m43s

Leclerc & Sainz have both been ontop of thee practice runs for Ferrari with the 3rd practice just coming to an end.
With only the stranglers left on the track of Albion and Sargent.

Qualifying should go ahead of schedule starting in about 3 hours from now.

Piastri - Norris both managed to overtake them in the last moments of FP3. I must admit that it was unexpected to me.  Tongue  People are mostly talking about how strong Ferrari is this weekend - including me.

However McLaren also looks really promising. We will probably watch a quite enjoyable qualifying session. There is an hour left. Have you noticed how much Verstappen was struggling in these sessions?

If he doesn't manage to take pole position I won't be surprised. But the biggest surprise would be to see him not winning a race 2 times in a row - which is what I would like to see a lot.  Grin

Ferrari both points is 1.22, a bit too low and still risky, McLaren is 1.57, for now, the one appealing will be is the the triple for the same driver winning with pole and fast lap combo, but I'll wait for the practice while throwing pocket change at Max taking this and Lando top 3.
I'm thinking of giving a chance to Leclerc @10.00 for this race for example after hearing about the big upgrades.  Tongue

As I said bookies are not impressed by those and not even by the first run in practice, Ferrari just slided to 1.33 from 1.22 for both drivers in points which is really weird but we're only 15 minutes in it. Nobody from the top 10 is shorting in the market other than Max for the winner of the race, but I feel tempted about the qualifying winning team, RB is 8/15.
