I loved how Russell and both red bulls (Verstappen/Perez) were dog fighting for the majority of lap 28-40.
Now this is what F1 fans want to see during a race and not just the same leader for 50+ laps just by getting pole position.
Atleast for me during the Sunday races.

That's correct. At least one Ferrari was missing from the setup, but it was a nice fight and a pretty clean one too.
All in all this year looks pretty good til now, as a show: pleasant to watch, the winner is far from clear, the top cars' performance is pretty close and it's no unnecessary drama.

Before the start of the year I hoped that maybe this time we will see other cars too fighting for the top - maybe McLaren, maybe Alpine, I don't know... Haas was a nice surprise, but now they seem to be drifting away.
But we can't have just everything. Maybe next year Cheesy
Exactly, fortunately the competitiveness of F1 this year is very fierce, quite different from what happened in 2021.
I confess that I was quite apprehensive about the radical changes that were foreseen for the cars this season, I believed that this would increase the difference between Mercedes and the others much more.
Fortunately, that's not what happened and now we can expect good surprises between one GP and others.

Yea ...the football is kinda gone during the summer but we still have Copa Sudamericana and Libertadores so from time to time we still get some top football from SA.

Now, back to F1. I think Charles should have this victory already in his pockets but then I think on how unlucky he can be in Monaco but at some point it gotta break , right ? If Charles won't win , there for sure Sainz must win this because if he won't , then RedBull will most likely have another 1-2 and a result like that will simply demoralize the entire Ferrari garage.

Yeah, I'm with coinlocket on this. LeClearc pole and win. As I said before, Monaco stands for everything that says "no surprises". That means, if younger drivers play the role of good boys and don't try to be upstarts, then Positions 1-10 should fairly follow book odds closely.

Plus home crowd backing him. And he's as spongey as Verstappen in lapping up home support.

For the pole, we got it right.

For the race it depends a lot on the weather, Rain is expected with an 80% probability before the race.

Yeah, so far so good. I backed Verstappen for pole in last few races, made this switch strictly because this is Monaco, missed out points in those rounds but ensured got a good start today.

Who else among you got pole correct? I'd say most!

Anyway, race starts in about 2.5 hours. No more football in my life for some weeks so I guess I'll sit down a bit for this with my son. Happy Sunday everyone.

Although I don't really have one good pick for the next winner, I would be afraid to bet on Leclerc because:
* he is kinda building up a history of blowing it when the crowd is on his side
* Ferrari's last upgrade seems to be a bit too "unstable" (it was not only Leclerc abandoning at Barcelona)

At least Verstappen and Russell also want to prove this or that, maybe even Hamilton too, and they can easily be better picks for winner in Monaco.

Ah, didn't know he bottled it when he had home support. Definitely not enough knowledge of history on my side, but practice seems to be putting him in even better steading really.

Speaking of Hamilton, he must be one of the most experienced on Monaco by now. Anyone fancy at least a podium finish for him? I put him around 6 or 7, still not convinced of any surprises tomorrow.

Ufff Mercedes its struggling so much again in this circuit (like we see in the Free practice), Ferrari seem like they are proving his car fits perfect in this circuit, RedBull as always its a profitable car in all the circuits.

I dont know what can pass in the race because... its Monaco and one crash can change the whole race.

And as you had said, Leclerc and his Ferrari team will be a challenge to them if they want to even get on the podium at Monaco.
But Ferrari has team cohesiveness at play so it could be in their hands and also show just how far this will take them come race day.
I love the way Leclerc is killing it this season. His main focus per race is a win, eventually a WDC. Although people think Verstappen and Lewis are better, Leclerc is much better.6 races. 4 poles, he could even beat Lewis's record for pole laps. My advice is that he needs to work a bit on his race pace and Ferrari needs to sort out it’s tyre wear issues.

The odds for Monaco are quite close.
For the practice it is Leclerc at a slight advantage according to the bookies:

Here are the ones for qualification but these change after P3 is done:

And finally the main race on Sunday odds which will definitely swing widely after qualifications have been secured with a pole position determined:

It will be a wild one! That is for certain.

Practice 1 starts in about 20 minutes so strap in.. It is going to be a bumpy ride!

^^ Very true SirLancelot.

But Red Bull are having an inteam battle raging after Spain so their house needs to be inorder for them to win this one outright.

This one was on very short notice (for the forums anyways since some people log in from a span of once per week at times), but I would assume it will grander for next season since this is the premiere of the F1 pool.
Good video of Old Schumacher in that youtube clip.

I was actually watching some historic moments of the Monaco grand prix from years past and this one highlights the best races from the mother of F1 racing:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJ14oZzYLI0

I liked the last one by Alain Prost since him and Schumacher had a rivalry like Max and Lewis did for the last few season until this one.
100% hard agree on the Leclerc bet for this weekend. We all know that he always gets the pole, he is great at that and he will probably do that again. After that, this is monaco, unless his car has issues like last week then he should be keeping that.

However, do not forget that Ferrari pitwall has been a joke material for many years now, and Red Bull pit is known for their awesomeness, in fact they are so awesome that under 2 seconds got banned for "safety" reasons to prevent Red Bull going there. All in all, I am not sure if Max could get the distance to a low level, but if he can, then there could be some surprise there and would make a difference.

and don't forget to put in your picks for before qualifying to grab those extra points for the leaderboard.

There is a really high level of competition in the pool right now. I'm expecting more people to participate in the pool next year. Whenever we mention the Monaco GP, the legend driver Michael Schumacher's pole position in 2012 comes to my mind. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RhemGJgwdpM&ab_channel=FORMULA1   As it is hard to overtake drivers on the track of this race, the qualifying session is more important. I see Leclerc as advantageous in his country because of this.

Woah Monaco this weekend.
Was not expecting it.

Prediction? easy pole for LeClerc.
I think everyone and their mothers are on Leclerc for this weekend to win it.
Let's hope he can do it and not post another DNF cause that would be tragic.

There are some like that, where people could pass each other and that's a good race and the view is better, if it was all like that I would watch it, 23 races all in the big cities of the world, would be awesome to watch instead of tracks. However, monaco is not one of them because it is very very hard to overtake, so it feels like we are just watching cars go around the track without doing anything, feels wrong to watch it like that.
I also do not like the race within the city.  Such races are much more dangerous due to the lack of a large space for departure from the track. I always feel very unpleasant and insulting when such beautiful cars turn into a pile of scrap metal. And they are being towed, as if they were being taken to the scrap. Sad
In addition, for example in Monaco, it is really very difficult to overtake rivals.  And this reduces the entertainment of the races.  But, of course, Monaco is an F1 classic.

Still, of course, I want Leclerc to perform with dignity on the home track.  Let's hope his car doesn't let him down.  Enough of these surprises, like in Barcelona.

My problem with city tracks its the things of the crashses, because you have always the wall so close to you, one little move and you kiss the wall.

And dont have easy scapes so they need to deploy the safety car for a lot of laps.

Yes Baku its great because of he long straight, and heavy break after that.

I know Monaco its the pinnacle of the Formula 1 but i didnt like this kind of race (the urban kind).

I know its historical and the more iconic and also the pilots love this one because they say you need to be so good to driver for this streets at so high speed.

But a lot of times are boring races. Lets see with the new cars, maybe we can see an amazing race like the round in Spain.
On the contrary, I like city tracks more. I also see the architecture of the city, I think the racers like this atmosphere more. Normal tracks seem a bit boring to me because the things to see are very obvious. I've always been excited for city tracks. I'm looking forward to the Monaco GP how the new cars will be. If we think from the side you think, these tracks are not ideal for high speeds, you are right.
Depends on the city. I mean Baku is great if you ask me, there is a huge racing situation there and aside from that small gap where I always expect a crash as we all do, there are many places where cars could overtake each other and that is why its a great one.

Yeah, from what I gather, Monaco's the prestige but it's really just a place to show off what you got with the most familiar conditions, no surprises, and textbook track.

In other words, hug the book margins making these picks, unless you expect a new driver to try and make his mark.

I have to go with Monaco's son here this round though.
