We have left qualifying session behind. Verstappen met the expectations and got the pole position. But it was by a very slight difference like 0.01 second. Leclerc improved his time but it was only enough to get this much behind Verstappen. But it was important for him to improve otherwise Sainz was going to get past him. If that happened then maybe there would be some issue between Ferrari drivers. Because Sainz is a really ambitious driver and wouldn't like to yield Leclerc easily.

The race is pretty early in the morning in my country and it's annoying. Normally I would watch the recap later in this situation but this is a special race for Verstappen and Red Bull both. Verstappen is going to be the champion officially if he wins the race. Red Bull can consolidate their relationship with Honda in case of a win also.

Japan first practice just showed how the cars dealt with the rain and most were off track.
Ferrari's don't handle the turns in those deep puddles too well. Both Haas cars did the same with going off into the turns.

That's why I agree with what was said before, skills and experience could be key factors. They estimate there are 40% chances for rain on Sunday, so it will be probably another rainy race. I do not think we will see Verstappen as a champion this weekend.

Greats news you delivered to us rdbase.

I have to say one thing nobody mention before about gasly in Alpine, as far i know Ocon hates Gasly, so imagine how bad can be that relationship.
Ocon in the track its a really bad person with his partner, he put some risk against Alonso and even with Perez when their were in the same team. SO can you imagine what can he do against a man who hate?
I thought Ocon wouldn't get along with Gasly so even if he moved it might be short lived.
If drivers who don't have a good flowing relationship in this sport they can not win too many races.

Yeah, I remember that Ocon and Perez had several accidents during season which gave lot of headache for Force India team. Having Ocon as teammate isn't easy and considering not best relationship between him and Gasly is concerning thing. Usually, such things don't end well for the team.

De vries seems to be coming closer to a deal and was released they will be announcing officially which team he wants to settle with for the start of the coming 2023 season.
https://www.crash.net/f1/news/1013764/1/gasly-s-alpine-deal-inches-closer-driver-market-dominoes-fall

While Gasly has already said he will be joining Alpine:
https://www.gpblog.com/en/news/142763/gasly-switch-to-alpine-to-be-announced-this-weekend.html

I also heard about these fines given out to Aston Martin and Red Bull for going over the spending cap.
https://www.express.co.uk/sport/f1-autosport/1677766/FIA-penalty-Red-Bull-Max-Verstappen-F1-title-cost-cap-Formula-One-news
They couldn't take the title away from a season done and dusted already, could they?

They did their investigation yesterday and decided towards Red bull's favor in the matter:
https://www.express.co.uk/sport/f1-autosport/1678519/max-verstappen-lewis-hamilton-red-bull-budget-cap-penalty-title

Looks like Lewis Hamilton has to go another season with his team in search for that record breaking title held by Michael Schumacher since they are tied:
https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/article.ill-always-be-with-mercedes-says-hamilton-as-he-opens-up-on-what-an-8th-title-would-mean-to-him.5X1vYXoxQtQmk6SDKourhO.html
I would guess that Max is not at fault here, hence they can't really take away his title. If Red Bull won the constructors last year, maybe they would have considered taking that instead but when we are talking about drivers, that's not Max's fault so it would be tough to take away his title, and that is why this decision was given.

Plus, it was a brand new year with some new regulations, so giving Red Bull some leeway on accounting problems, when the deal is not like they went overboard x2 what they were allowed to, just a tid bit, then it makes sense since it is not huge enough to make a difference. That is why I believe just a fine and move along is a great decision.

Verstappen can not win this race.
It is not financially viable for the FIA nor the bookies in the end.

I'd love to see the competition for the championship staying alive honestly. But it just doesn't feel like this will happen until the last moments of the season.

I mean that it was really lovely to see Verstappen and Hamilton entering the final race of the previous season at equal points. The champion was determined by literally the last lap of the race. But we don't see this much alive competition very often. We all remember how many times Hamilton dominated F1 and made the sport quite boring to watch in the meantime. Bookmakers don't have a big impact on this every time as a result. I think Verstappen will declare his title by this race.

But hopefully we can watch a more competitive season next time. This depends on how much the other teams will develop their cars and get close to Red Bull.

Don't rain again, please.

I see the "GP Singapore" after the rain, is really boring during the race. Less overtake and really boring to see, not everyone can use "DRS" as well due to that race. Let's bring a normal race first for the track we're not using yet.

It's 3 years since last race on Suzuka.

Hamilton will win this one.

If it is true that it is goind to be rainy weekend, we will see very interesting race (again) and indeed, Hamilton skills may play very important role. The question is how many crashes (&vsc) there will be, as they may always change the odds dramatically.
What if Perez wanted to get his piece of cake again?

I think even with the rain, Verstappen is going to win it.  They're going to finish it and wrap it up.  Red Bull is just too good as a team with the best driver on the track.  Verstappen is a generational talent.  Kinda like a Messi or a Ronaldo in football.

There isn't any value in his line tho.  The books have him at 1.50 to win it.  He was 1.40 to win in Singapore before quali and he was close to having it if he finished his possible pole taking lap if not for the fuel blunder.  The race obv would've been different if he got pole position.

I know how strange this may sound but it happens in the NBA, MLB, EPL, Liga leagues, etc etc.
They want to extend the drama as long as they can so to bring ratings and viewership up.
How boring would Drive to Survive be with an outright win with a couple more races to go before the end of the season.
In saying this, many thought he would of done it in Singapore.
But look...
He didn't and now we have even more speculation if he can do it.
It brings up more oddsmakers to profit from the outcome.

For the one example you put up there: Ronaldo is not going to stay at his current club much longer.

I already put in my selection for this grand prix.

Hamilton will win this one.

Suzuka is definitely Hamilton's track normally. He already loves to push himself harder on difficult tracks like this. He has so many victories gained on this track for example. However he is unlucky that he doesn't have a fast car anymore (at least for now  Grin). Hence I don't think that he can make any surprise with a car like this even under rain.

I've checked the weather report for Suzuka btw and it looks like another rainy race might be waiting for us.  Smiley

Verstappen made simple mistakes in Singapore and missed a big chance to climb to the top. Under similar conditions I expect him to drive more carefully this time. In addition to this, as far as I know winning this race by having the fastest lap is going to be enough for Verstappen to declare his title before the remaining four races. Because after that Verstappen is still keeping the lead even if he doesn't get any points in the last four races and Leclerc wins them with fastest laps. So I think this will be a big motivation for Verstappen to win this.

Red Bull sizzled in the last race although it did not make Verstappen the official driver to grab the championship title maybe it could for the next race happening this weekend in Japan!

By the way, the track in Japan is a very difficult track, with a lot of turns, and I remember the Japanese even seriously modernized it after some kind of serious accident. There are several interesting and difficult turns on this track. And there are also bottlenecks, quite dangerous for riders.

I also note that Hamilton won several times at this track. But let's see how he performs this time.
By the way, I would be glad if he once again became the hero of this stage.
On difficult tracks, Max does have a hard time on these as it definitely showed in Singapore.
The oddmakers sure do back Verstappen to take it in Japan as well giving him 1.50x even before practice and qualification races had been done yet.

Finally the decision about Perez's incident is clear and he has been given a 5-second race penalty for the safety car infringement. Still he held onto his win because he was already ahead by 7.5s. I really don't understand how Leclerc was that much behind in no time. Perez was like feeling his breath on his neck for many laps. But suddenly Leclerc started to be so slow. Perez got a call from his team to push hard to get away from Leclerc though but this was still too much I believe.

Oh yes, it was one of the best (the most interesting) races. Rain is always doing good job for fans! Do you remember Germany 2019 (and the single point for Kubica, hehe)? I think in Singapore soon each corner will have a name of a driver which crashed into it. Ah, that's why Pirelly and Rolex pay for ads on bands Wink

I have no idea why Leclerc suddenly lost 7 seconds on the last laps, anyone? It was Perez who was complaining about engine etc, Leclerc was pushing so much, and suddenly - out.
Nice chase from Russel.

We have left another race week behind. DRS' being not active for too long made the race quite boring but after that we started to see some action at least. Of course there were many incidents and 6 drivers were out of the race. It was nearly going to be eight after Russell and Schumacher touched sideways. Maybe Verstappen had a poor race because of individual mistakes but he is still too comfortable in the lead. He just extended the time period of guaranteeing his title.

Next race is in Japan and it is this week also. This is good news for us as F1 is continuing at full speed after a long break. This GP was under the dominance of Hamilton in the recent years and the last winner was Bottas. It hasn't been held for two seasons. Hence this can be really interesting. Neither Verstappen nor Leclerc has a history with a win here.

Perez of course deserved the win considering his amazing performance during the whole race. However I think the penalty given to him was not right. It should have been more than only a 5-second penalty. FIA's actions are helping Red Bull quite much this season and this is making people uncomfortable as a result. We all know of course that Red Bull still has the fastest car on the grid but they must finish every race without this kind of suspicions.

By the way I've heard some things about Red Bull's punishment for exceeding budget. It is the same for Aston Martin also though. According to some rumours the punishments will be like this:

- €7.5m fine
- Spending less time in wind tunnel

This is like a joke to me honestly. I think that this deserves a bigger punishment because these teams gained more advantage for themselves by spending more money. Now they are just saying that these teams will spend less time for analyzing their new upgrades etc. from now on. This isn't a huge punishment at all.

Yes if confirmed is a joke.

Spend as much as you want and win a title since the advantage you get from going over the budget is usable forever and it will not expire at the end of the season.

I was actually thinking Leclerc was going to win the Singapore GP near the end due to the 5 second penalty for Checo with the passing of a safety car. He was so lucky to get above that and finish it over 7 seconds ahead so if they did deem it a violation then he would be cleared anyways to win by that 2 second margin gap in time.
Wild race to be sure!
Russell pitting at last few laps near the end thinking he was just going to give up and not get out of the pit was good for him.
Since he got the fastest lap and unusual since he was almost last place nearly almost all throughout the race.
But he did it so to not give points to Perez or Leclerc at the end according to what the announcer said near the end.
