You mean the one where he went straight into the padded barrier? He was going into a turn so he wasn't going full speed.
If I remember it right, the announcer was saying it could of been worse. It looked like he was braking when he knew he had lost control because you can see his front tires locking up and stop spinning.

Yep, that's the one. It could clearly have been worse, but I think that they've underestimated the damage and didn't check some things properly. At I think that this caused the failure at the race time.

Didn't see that one coming with Perez having gearbox issues just 8 laps into the race this past weekend in Canada.
It may be related to his crash in qualifying. The car did get quite a hit then.

With one of the Red bulls not finishing that means the heat is on with the Team Mercedes getting a podium win and Russell coming in fourth ahead of Leclerc.
I can see both of the British drivers making moves coming closer to the top of the leaderboard in the next race for the first July weekend in Silverstone.

With the reliability issues the Ferrari engines are facing lately this is very much possible.
I am a bit disappointed that Sainz is not trying at all make the life difficult to his opponents. But I am not sure whether it's lack of skill or he's trying to spare his car to actually end the race(s).

Quite quickly, the race leaders reacted to the pilots' complaints about dolphining. Now adopted a directive to limit the vertical acceleration of the machine. They will now be measured during qualifying and then they may or may not be allowed to race.
Experts note that teams will suffer the most. Mercedes and Ferrari.

I also liked the statement of one of the racers who compared the process of dolphining to being hits on his head as if it were a basketball bouncing off the floor. Smiley
Yes, they compared this motion to a football player taking a blow to their head several times but through out the course of the race.
But this is up to the sport to decide on what must be done to ratify this issue since it does seem detrimental to the drivers.

Mick Schumacher had a great performance in the rain, finishing sixth in qualifying and beating many key drivers. Made it to Q3. And most importantly he got the best grid position of his career. Max Verstappen was also phenomenal. He took the pole position in the Canadian GP. Max equalized the total number of pole positions with Leclerc. One of the names i was wondering about is Guanyu Zhou. He also made it to Q3 for the first time. Let's see if surprises will come.

Really easy for Max without Leclerc and without Perez for his own fault, Sainz again show to us he is not a first driver for a top scuderia, he can only be a shield.

Amazing performance of Alonso, hats off, showing his whole experience and making magic with his Alpine in the rain.

Good but risky move from Mercedes with that soft tires in Rusell, dont paying off but a great move to make a pole.

Yes sir, it was incredible what Alonso has made yesterday, also thanks to bad results from Perez and Leclerc (not for his fault). Alonso did an extraordinary lap and I'm really curious at the same time what he will do today

in race mode. Alonso is always an alien  Grin

PS: Takin a look also at Hamilton, that 4th place could be a suprise for us  Smiley
Alonso is almost 41 years old from some previews of today's race cause it was a definite stand out performance from the driver for Alpine.
Hamilton was frustrated and not happy with his engines performance and was very vocal about it at the end of qualifying from what I can recall.
Today's track should be dry so it shouldn't impose any of the driver performance on this track like it did during P3 and qualifying.
Let's go Max and Perez!
Team Red Bull for me today as they are on my betslips.

I would say that it would be better for them for sure. What would you prefer to have A)Pilots that will get injured but faster car that may get results while doing it or B)Slower car that doesn't hurt any of the drivers at all?

I would prefer to keep my pilots health to be fair, not like they would fall to bottom, they were doing this exact thing at the start of the season and they were still in points, which means that they may or may not be 5th and 6th or whatever, or get a podium, but they will get points and keep on going strong, not like they can win the season anymore anyway, it is obvious they lost, so it is better to find a way while keeping safety.

The problem is that Mercedes fought to slow down all the cars of competitors (this is a completely logical desire - if everything goes wrong, then something needs to be changed, suddenly it will be possible to gain an advantage after the changes), but now their car will be slowed down. I think they did not care about the health of the pilots, the game was different and now they completely lost it.

Easy pole for Max, this was the best condiction for him.
With rain, RBR was panicking.

Astonishing second time for Alonso.

It will be a fun race with Perez and Leclerc in the pack.

Well seems like the FIA put a rule so Mercedes need to raise the floor, lets see how bad this impact in their car.
-skip-
It looks like Mercedes got a completely different result for which it fought - after all, it was them who complained the most and now, in order to fulfill the FIA directive, they will have to take some design decisions that will reduce vertical shaking and obviously reduce the speed of the bollide. To be honest, I am very surprised by such a reasonable decision by the FIA, I wonder if Mercedes will honestly carry it out or sacrifice the "health of the pilots" about which they were so worried about for results.

Who know how it will go, it should be a really interesting race tomorrow, considering that Ferrari has changed his motor and put inside his 4th  Shocked ; thanks for this, Leclerc will start his race at the last place and I hope that he

will end his race between first and third place, that isn't an easy thing, but also not impossible considering talent of this driver.

There are three hours left for the Canadian GP qualifying session. I have followed the practice sessions so far and I can say that Verstappen seems very determined about winning the pole position. Leclerc is really unfortunate that he took a 10-place grid penalty for changing the control electronics of his car. If this is going to help Ferrari have an unproblematic engine then it is good that they are doing this now. Maybe Leclerc can have a big problem on winning race but it can help him a lot in the long run. About the qualifying session, I wonder if Leclerc is still going to be able to win the pole position to start from the 11th place at least.

Ferrari has said that the break of motor in Baku was involved with something that was started in Spanish GP.  Now they said that situation is under control.

I really hope so, I would like to see a good result from them in this weekend, I bet for a pole position tomorrow, about the race who knows  Embarrassed Embarrassed
They haven't fixed it and did actually make it worse as @buwaytress has mentioned in his post above.
They need more parts during FP2 to repair it and was struck with a 10 place grid penalty right before the race on Sunday. He is need of a new para-unit element.
So he can not start the race no better than 11th place according to the sports media I was following right before the qualifying race.
It starts in about 6.5 hours from now so get buckled in.

Yikes Ferrari man. I did say it'll be too soon to fix their engine issues for this race, but seems they found a way to make it even worse (and bad decision from LeClerc anyway).

Going to bite the bullet today and just strike Ferrari out from the podium actually. I know bad luck doesn't strike three times in the same place (it already did two though).

Yes i see now you say Ferrari only want a competitive car and his goals for this years was to be again in the mix, but you are Ferrari you always have to fight for the win, for me and being a new one car with new rules sounds like excuses.

Practice runs begin in about 2-3 hours so can not wait to see how each team has either improved on or failed to do anything about the bouncing issues that FIA using the procedure Parc Ferme.
Actually FP1 will start only in 6.5 hours from now. Way different time zone, since it's Canada.
Everything will happen kinda late this week-end.
Correct. The timezones are drastically different and we have skysports broadcasting them to us here so going from theirs it gets confusing.
Found a better estimation of when these practice races start from an North American site instead with EST time schedules:
https://www.espn.com/racing/schedule/_/series/f1

So in about 4.5 hours from now, of course it being a practice the exact start time is marginally different then what it actually is.
