USA still the best when it comes to basketball...

Very unfortunate for team USA for not bringing any medals even bronze and just got 7th place for this season FIBA.

The thread should be lock. FIBA is now over and we aren' talking about gambling now.

5 days has been past and yup this should be lock. I’ll send OP a pm.

...and the absence of NBA superstars this time meant that they earned less amount of money that can be later spent for the development of the game in the United States and elsewhere.

NBA Superstars didn't need to commit on that. They are not to blame to if revenue for this year might be less compare to last.

It's not an obligation for the likes of Team USA since they have lots of good players unlike in other country where representing the country is a privilege.

Eventhough those NBA players are already rich, I think most of them will say that they are willing to represent their country in a venue such as Olympics an be proud of the biggest sporting events in the world.

So it's not just the opportunity, but the total experience itself. We have seen it before, so I'm sure NBA players who's going to pick to represent US in the 2020 won't decline the participation and be proud to be part of the US team. I still remember MJ being followed everywhere and the rest of the US team even outside the court with the Dream team in '92 Olympics.

First of all, a world cup is a world cup. It should be given the same importance that is given to the Olympics. The world cup contributes in a large way to the annual revenues of FIBA and the absence of NBA superstars this time meant that they earned less amount of money that can be later spent for the development of the game in the United States and elsewhere.

The US management might have overstated the strength of their team, and thought that even a second string side would have been able to win the tournament. But unfortunately that was not the case. The gap between the United States and the other teams is narrowing. Earlier, there was no real competitors for the US (especially after the breakup of the USSR). That is not the case now.

The olympics will be different, why?  It's a different setting.  Coming from the US, the financial world cup is barely talked about on the sporting news, it's just not a big tournament in the eyes of the US.  The olympics is a whole different thing.

And for peoe saying the US will send better players then it did for fiba, it WASNT the US, it was the players who declined to play because again no nba superstar wants to get hurt playing in the world cup which isnt that big of a tournament

This is correct

People should just stop asking or commenting repeatedly again and again when the answers are already in the same page. I can feel that there are many people commenting here with no real knowledge on what's going on. Many comments are too general (probably just for the sake of commenting for signatures).

Do people realized that FIBA World Cup is not that big? The NBA, most especially during the playoffs onwards have more viewers. Actually there is only one country where basketball is the top sport, and that is only the Philippines. FIBA will have a hard time taking air slots on televisions in many countries.

I believe that after the bad result for the US team and the worst placement ever in World Cups the American basketball federation is going to put some pressure in order to equip the team with the most skilled players.
It feels like the gold medal will be the only way for them now.

It's good to bet on them in the next international game, I think it's going to be olympics next and with great players like Curry and Lebron playing, I will be very confident that they will dominate and will again bring home the gold medal.

USA basketball team is the best team in the world, they've proven it many times, they just give other nation's a chance in this FIBA tournament and good thing they were able to take advantage a weaker line up of the US team.
It will be a different scene when it comes to Olympics. This previous lineups from the world cup might not have enough calibers to compete with the world's best selections coming from each of those represented national teams from different countries that's been qualified to play in this tournament. After seeing the worst results, the associations itself will adjust and form the next dream team to represent the national selections for team US.

Expect to see more NBA superstars to freely show their willingness to represent the team and avenge the embarrassment that they've got from this last FIBA word cup.

That would be the most possible case for team USA. I think they will build another revenge squad to regain their status in the world ranking. Betting on to the USA team in the Olympics will be a wise choice.

I can't wait to see that line to be available in sportsbook, I hope they also have olympics future like what they offer on NBA futures.
What happened in this FIBA tournament which is considered a big mistake will be their motivation to improve more in the next worldwide competition.
I think they can still reclaim their pride since winning in Olypics will get wide recognition than winning in FIBA, no offense to the Spain team, but they also have to prove it again that their current squad can also beat the best squad of the USA.

But I highly doubt I can see the same lineup come 2020 Tokyo Olympics. I am seeing the likes of Curry in there. The US has still the best team in the world when it comes to basketball. They are still my favorite for the Olympics.
Most of us, if not everyone, agrees. But Olympics is another venue to showcase your skills, and every NBA superstars wanted to gain the stardom, same as what MJ receive back then. And that stardom was never been forgotten to each side of the world and still being enjoyed by the Airness.

Aside from representing your motherland, you are also adding more popularity to your own career and that's how NBA superstar will see this opportunity, adding more fans all over the world this coming Tokyo Olympics.

Too bad for the Philippines they are in the last position now because they played a worst basketball this year.
On the other hand, USA is just rank number 7 because they loss against France and Serbia, what a big drop for this team, they need to make major changes as they are suppose to be in the top 3 in case they fail since we have big expectation from Team USA which was previously rank number 1.
Yes, that's sad to see but it already happened and this can be a lesson to the teams that participated. Those teams especially team USA should have to reshuffle their roster and send those star players that we used to watch on NBA.

This is why basketball is interesting, the powerhouse teams that we know can also stumble and lose to a team that's also strong somehow but we didn't expected to win against them. The next thing to trend on basketball right now is the way to 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

We can be sure that the USA will bring something special to Japan.

Stephen Curry, James Harden, Russell Westbrook and others will be like Thanos in The Endgame.

lol, nice one.. but you are right, USA will bring something because they will not anymore bring the team that played in the FIBA, maybe they are already accepting some criticism now and their effort is just wasted since they didn't met the expectation from them.

Let's move on to this tournament, let's stop blaming USA and start appreciating the effort of the Spain, Rubio as the MVP is such a great achievement for him at a young age and that would boost the trust of this teammates to him, and I'm hoping for his improvement in the coming season.

^^ Oh definitely they will send a strong team come Tokyo 2020, the biggest sporting event in the world.

Regarding there lost though, yes it's hard to imagine US losing and not even in the top three. But we are all NBA fans and we all know that the team sucks, maybe they are doing experiments here but it is a failed result. Next time they should bring superstars to get back their pride and glory in FIBA.

I was cheering for Argentina, loved them but Spain just has a "winner mentality" and obviously deserved the trophy. Tournament with many surprises and upsets, now cant wait for the Olympics!

The Olympics will be a different story because we know USA will rebuild the team and bring the best players their nation can offer. I don't think USA will lose in the upcoming Olympics.
They've learned their lessons for sure, we will likely see a new line up lead by the best players in the NBA.

I'm expected Davis, Lebron, Kyrie, Durant (if he will be healthy that time), Westbrook, Harden, and Kawhi, those are just names that entered in my mind, but they are better compared to the line up that played in the FIBA WC, USA will protect their reputation, they will not take this lightly and they will continue to earn that championship again.

Time for them to made another Dream Team for this era. I guess they really need this kind of lost in world stage so that they will come back hungry like the last time. The NBA players you mentioned are solid and it could revived US dominance again. If not, and if they keep sending B-level players to play in this kind of high level basketball, it will be very hard for them to even land in podium because European are also on top of their game now.

This 2019 FIBA World Cup US Team is perhaps the least colorful and also the weakest that the country has composed and sent to battle since the time the US started admitting NBA players in its roster. While other countries normally send their best players in the sports, the US did not. This team seems to represent the old years of the US team which was usually composed of military or collegiate players.

But I highly doubt I can see the same lineup come 2020 Tokyo Olympics. I am seeing the likes of Curry in there. The US has still the best team in the world when it comes to basketball. They are still my favorite for the Olympics.

One thing is for sure after this World Cup I know that the USA and the NBA will change their views on not sending their stars anymore, they assumed that if they send a few quality players and some benchwarmers is enough to play competitively in the world scene but even that is not enough for them to defeat Serbia in the fourth place.

I don't think the NBA has something to do with the players decision on pulling out of the national roster, it's players personal decision and purely business decision for them, i think they lack the patriotism or the US just have so many players to choose from that the superstars are not oblige to join the national team.

Spain, Serbia and the rest of the teams that competed in the recent FWC was deprived of the opportunity of playing with the best because US is not sending it's best team yet. Maybe it's a different story on the Olympics as NBA superstars are contemplating on joining the national team after it's dismal showing in the FWC.
