What a day! Surprise, surprise once again.

Latvia had no problem defeating Brazil.
Lithuania is the big news today after defeating the heavy favorite. So my prediction was right, took the +12 for them and hit it. Who took the money line? You are rish now! Cheesy
I bet their confidence is soaring right now. At the Olympics before, they were also the country that defeated the USA, and now here we go again. Thumbs up for the Lithuanians.

Spain versus Canada was the most exciting. Spain rallied in the 2nd quarter trying to get away from Canada but damn, SGA and Brooks are in their zone in the last minutes of the 4th quarter where they got their first lead. The last 43 seconds is where the real fight begins and I thought the last shot of Spain was going to sink in, unlucky.
Canada did not cover the spread, lucky are those who just took the money line.

Lithuania beating USA 110:104. At one moment we had over 20 points lead, but as expected, USA come with bigger intensity, especially in defense after halftime. But we managed to stay in lead until the end. And again, our 3 point % was way above 50% like in whole tournament, what is crazy. And this photo instantly becomes one of the most iconic in our basketball history. Player who got lot of hate before tournament made career performance against USA:

Though, I'm not sure that this win is such good thing for us. Instead of Italy, now we got Serbia in 1/4 final, what is much more difficult opponent IMO. So, seems that we will have another classic clash with our historical rivals.
I expected Latvia win, but it was difficult to predict that it will be so easy, +20 against Brazil and what a 3rd quarter with 36 points.
Spain - Canada, espic game. Spain had control of game maybe until 37th minute, but then Canada turned on elite defense. They go to 1/4 finals and 2024 Olympics, while 2019 World Champions is eliminated.

Big win by Germany against Slovenia; I think they are the real deal in this tournament.

The spread was -4.5 in favor of Germany, making them slight favorites, but it turned out to be a massacre as they routed Slovenia.

The final score was 100-71, with Dennis Schröder still leading the scoring for Germany with 24 points. It's a significant statement win, and if I'm not mistaken, they remain undefeated.

They had a slow start yet it became a good game when both teams are already warm enough until they both get hot, and eventually, Germany handed Slovenia its first loss after having four win streaks. I honesly thought that this will be a tight game but it wasn't the case because Germany dominated Slovenia and ended in a 29 point game.

So now, Schroder and Germany will now proceed to the quarterfinals of this tournament and yes, still an undefeated. Things are getting pretty interested folks and congratulations to all who wagered in favor of the Germany.

Kidding aside. China roster seems very week compared before when they a lot of sharp shooters and 7 footers.
That's definitely not their best roster but I read that their head coach doesn't speak their language so that may have contributed to the team's poor performance in this WC. I think he's great but language barrier is usually a huge factor and I blame whoever is in charge of their basketball program for hiring Dordevic in the first place.

Canada vs Spain will also be a great duel today, and Serbia is playing Dominicana for next round, should be easy to win, but after lose against Italy, one never know

It's a great matchup, and Canada is the heavy favorite. I'm not sure if they are just overrated, but Spain is a great team. The odds now are 3.35 for Spain, with a +7 handicap. I'd like to take a risk here, so I'm going to bet on Spain to win the game.

As for Serbia vs. the Dominican Republic, I don't want to take chances. I believe Serbia will be able to dominate KAT's team.
Canada is the favorite to win on this game and take the title actually, 2 more hours and we will witness this two power house team fight for the next round.
With Serbia I think they are still too much for Dominican so they can get the win without any doubt. I'm already in position for Canada, hope its worth the odds.  Cheesy
Both Serbia and Canada are heavy favorites, but let's see. Spain has been consistent on the big stage, and they thrive in crucial games. I might also favor Spain, but I will gladly take the handicap so I can win even if they lose but the game ends up being close.

Since Gilas is already eliminated and they don't have any more games in this tournament and i think people in the Philippines will surely be rooting for the USA to be the champion of this year's FIBA World Cup. They have a game today against Lithuania and i just wanted to ask the opinion of some users here if USA will be able to cover that -14.5 spread as I'm hesitant to put my money on them with that wide spread.
There's no doubt about this, but I think Filipinos will have a different teams to support with especially if the Slovenia advancing to the next round as well.
USA still the top team to compete with despite of their younger roaster, its good to see great basketball again.

USA will be the favorites in their upcoming games, so it doesn't interest me as a gambler. Personally, I've already decided that I will bet on their opponent once they reach the final game to win the trophy.

By the way, Serbia is already leading by 19 points.

And I couldn't resist from making bet on Latvia win @2.25

USA - Lithuania should be very interesting. We (Lithuania) come to this game relaxed, it's not do or die game for us, but if we would manage to beat USA, that would be such huge boost for us before 1/4 final. I'm thinking about making small bet on our win.

how the hell I didn't saw odds on Latvia to be that high, they were favorites for a win IMO, and close to one at the moment

Lithuania played very good so far, it is a group stage so win over USA will not have some big matter, but good luck today

Well, you won't see player making 5 3-pointers in a row every day, Clarkson was on fire today. It's nice to see hosts ending on a high note and finally taking win. And congrats to Japan and South Sudan for taking spot in 2024 Paris Olympics.

Can't wait for Sunday's games. In groups I and L we have crazy interesting situation when all teams have chances to got further. But everything is simple - you win your game and you go to 1/4 finals. It's crazy that either Spain or Canada will end their tournament after this stage. My prediction that from group I Italy and Serbia will go next. In other group I go with Canada and Latvia. Latvia is considered as underdog, but after they kicked asses to France and Spain, I don't see why they would would stop on Brazil. And I couldn't resist from making bet on Latvia win @2.25

My thoughts exactly.
Slowly the odds between Brazil and Latvia go towards even, after opening with Latvia being a 2,5 point underdog.
I don't understand why Brazil is the favourite here. ok they beat Canada, but Latvia beat France and Spain, which is also a strong statement.

It's gonna be a close game but in the end I see Latvia winning.
Both teams had some nice wins but all in all those games they made big comebacks, both Brazil and Latvia.

For 1 half Latvia also had a great game vs Canada, which at the end they lost big but in the first half they were up by 12 before falling apart.

Brazil on the other hand never had a chance against Spain.

Let's see what happens, I'm rooting for latvia for sure!!

This World Cup is extremely exciting and enjoyable in my opinion. I can't wait for tomorrow's games. I actually lost my bet on Canada, but it was an amazing surprise. Groups I and L are amazing to watch especially. Possibly the biggest surprise is Latvia but as they defeated my country horribly in the World Cup Qualifiers, I knew their potential. Even without Porzingis, they are amazing. Kudos to them. For tomorrow, I see a very interesting odds. Spain 2.96. I don't think it will be a that much of an easy game for Canada. I will bet on Spain.
It got more exciting because of the upsets. Some teams that are underestimated are stepping up their game. Others got so relaxed because of history.
A lot of countries today are getting better at basketball and I think it will just a matter of time until we see a very unpredictable FIBA and Olympics.

Since Gilas is already eliminated and they don't have any more games in this tournament and i think people in the Philippines will surely be rooting for the USA to be the champion of this year's FIBA World Cup. I am rooting for a different country. Cheesy Although it will be a hard task for them, I can still see some light at the end of the tunnel. What Brazil did against Canada surprised me a lot and then the other upsets like Slovenia against Australia and Latvia against Spain. The USA team cannot just stay relaxed because these teams although without NBA players or just 1 or 2, will be playing harder as we get near the championship. Every win will count and every score too.

About that -14.5, I am actually doubting and might just go the other way around and take the +14.5 for Lithuania @1.88. If Lithuania badly wants to win this game they need to start in high spirits and take the lead first. Then control the pace of the game from there.

Spain against Canada is also a hot game. Canada is the favorite at -6.5 @1.91. I think they can cover that.

He's really lit and on fire together with the other local players like Abandon. I've just read recently that Philippines is going to play with the Olympic Qualifying tournament. That means that the hope and dream for Olympics isn't dead yet. They have to win the Olympic qualifying tournament for which they're going to participate. I know that it's going to be hard but maybe from there, they can give all their best shots. While Bahamas is already qualified for the Olympics and doesn't have to go through with the Olympic qualifying tournament, their team is where probably Klay Thompson is going to play with. And for Japan's growth in basketball, without even Rui Hachimura but only Yuta and one localized player, they are really a strong team and congrats to them as well.

I think this guy Abando should have played more minutes in the FIBA, I mean he is so electrifying that it could affect his team mates and that's what happen here. Clarkson is on fire, Kai Sotto had a good game. I thought it will be close because at the start of the 3rd quarter, Japan took the lead by the Philippines doesn't want to lose this one.

And suddenly Clarkson, he is on fire, hitting those 3 pointers and in matter of minutes he had like 20 points and then the Philippines pulling off a double digit lead. Hopefully this will carry the momentum of Gilas in order for team Philippines to qualify for the Olympics.

Maybe a lot has changed as they got more big man on this one and more likely have taken some wins. But we don't know, even Spain the number one team has been beaten by Latvia. This means that this FIBA is really full of surprises and a lot of teams that have come to be expected perform at their best are not guarantee of a win. It's just sad that our national team hasn't taken any win and if they lose to China this Saturday, our team is gonna be part of history. Yeah, but very bad history of being a team of not having any win as a host country.
It was really unexpected for Latvia to win against Spain but surely the ball is round and you can never know what may happen if the game hasn't ended yet so Latvia got upset for sure, it was a full surprise, but another Surprise was the 1st win of the Philippines against China surely it was really a great game all have performed well including Renz Abando, Kai Sotto and lastly the monster performance of Jordan Clarkson for this game,
Yeah, this is something that was unexpected and made a lot of people believe that every team is balanced and can win the World Cup. Truly a good game against China because before the Gilas was having a hard time to beat them and when it's like we're hearing they were opponent, it's already acclaimed that the Gilas is going to lose with a lot of lead from China but this time, Gilas did the opposite still a good win after all.

for sure it was a great game for the last coaching of Coach Chot Reyes for the Philippines because, after the game with China, he had already said that he is now retired as a coach,
Being the coach only for Gilas but not entirely as a coach since there's still PBA (local league).

If you managed to get Brazil at those odds then congratulations, those are expected for taking down the heavy favorites to win and possibly be in the finals with so many NBA players  being in their roster.
Didn't know Wemby was playing in this tournament until checking out the last few posts on this thread.
With Gobert not doing so good France needs somebody with his stature to take his place in their line-up if they want to advance out of these group stage games.
Watching the Finland vs Venezuela match and they were hanging around during the third quarter but it looks like Finland are finally pulling away from the heavy underdogs now. Same with South Sudan, but the difference is they were always ontop of their game against Angola as it is now half time in their match being up 15pts.

He can likely play for France but unfortunately, he announced that he was dedicated this season to the upcoming game for the NBA readying himself and preparing for the NBA, and taking a rest on the World Cup as the news has said that Wenbanyama is not likely playing for France here is the article and I think some interview with Victor Wnbanyama itself,

It might be weak, but I think a win is a win for Gilas, we definitely wanted to beat the Chinese so hard in basketball as they are our domestic rivals in the region. So I think majority of the Filipino bettors at least win here if I'm not mistaken.

And it was really exciting to watch it on TV and then Jordan Clarkson hitting those outside 3's. And it salvage the Philippine campaign for this FIBA, and it's first ever win as a host. On the side note, I think this will be the last time that we will see Chot Reyes as coach of Gilas.  Grin

For sure this Rivalry is really deep as likely as I really don't want to say for sure the fact that it was a territory dispute that is not really included in the topic, for sure The game was for the Gilas Pilipinas as it was a very dominant game for them even if Kyle Anderson was on the China team Jordan Clarkson was very formidable for this game, and even though this could be the last game for the Philippines it was really a great game for them,

And likely Chot Reyes's last Coaching as he said that he is now retiring, and as a win for the Philippines this is also a birthday gift for Dwight Howard as he also celebrates his birthday in playing for the Philippines,

Congratulations to the Philippines, finally some excitement and a well deserved win.
After the 3rd quarter I bet my small stake weekly bonus on them -19,5 points and 15 seconds before the end this looked bad with the Philippines only leading by 17 points.

Then a 2 point dunk with 10sec to go, steal with 5sec to go, a missed 3 with 1sec to go and a tip in with the buzzer made my bet win, what a final stretch for this instead of dribbling the clock out. Guess politics have had an influence on this, Philippines wanted to make it a 20 point statement win.  Grin

Congratulations to your win. We do take seriously fight against China because sports is the only place we can win against them.  Cheesy

A 24-4 run by the Philippines, with Jordan Clarkson delivering a remarkable performance featuring four consecutive three-pointers! The Philippines is now leading by 20 points, and it certainly looks like they are on track to win this game. Clarkson's exceptional performance has played a significant role in this lead, and it's an exciting turn of events for the team and its fans.

edit, it's 5 consecutive now.
A first win that we will forever cherish and I’d hope that this is not our last as many are already looking for the next FIBA for team Philippines. I’m sure this win will boost our standing in the World Ranking. Also heard the news about the coach of Philippines leaving the team as he received hated from the Filipinos. Anyway, other teams are already heading to the Philippines for the quarter finals, its good to see more great teams playing their hearts out, I’m betting to see Canada and USA in the finals.

I don't know the brackets and who is possible to face each other but Canada has some work to do inside.  Starting Kelly olynick (butchered that name probably) is going to hold them back against the more physical teams but in terms of outside talent yeah Canada definitely has the goods to run the table.

Yes, at least they got a win and everyone was playing good in the side of the Philippines. Hopefully, this could be the start of something big for them in the future. Clarkson finally erupted and found his range against the Chinese. It might be good though if he had this kind of shooting against the Dominican Republic in their first game.

But a win is a win and against their rival in the Asian region, so this is a big boost for them. Most likely it will be Canada vs USA in the finals and for sure it will be a great fight but I'm going to the USA as they are also looking very good in this tournament.
