Yeah France was up 12 going into the 4th and then we witnessed yet another total collapse, amazing. Who would have thought that France would bust out in the group stage already, haha.

But if you can’t finish a game you deserve to go home , plain and simple.

We got a couple of nice games left today, until now this World Cup hast is really nice to watch, even though we also saw a lot of blowouts.

About cashing out, well Canada might become a good cashout opportunity but if Germany keeps playing solid basketball there might be much more value in them . Getting 40:1 pre tournament was a real present if you look at their exhibition games before it. They almost beat Canada twice, basically destroying them in both games before Canada came back in the 2nd. That says a lot about their quality. And beating Australia without Franz Wagner is also a great achievement in my opinion!

What can you expect from the coach? His plays is so predictable and the way he release his statement doesn't motivate his team. He really need to step down since almost all Filipino fans want him to step down as he didn't bring anything good to the national team. Hope he realize that and will not be a thick face to continue his self on the team since they can still get the same result. Next game is Italy but if they continue to use the predictable plays of their coach and rely only on Clarkson offense provably we can all agree that they don't have a chance to beat Italy.
Change is constant, every year the same result, the team will never learn to be proactive under the coach, vulnerable to losses and making things blowed out of proportion in the team. The coach needs all the possible supports he could gathered from his supporters, it's really a tough job sitting at the top and making wrong changes that would affect the team, I totally understand from his point of view, he needs time and have been given enough time for him to bounce back the team to winning race, however we don't see that happening anytime soon.

No more respect or no more pride with this head coach, he just wanted to stay and keep those blames be forgotten after the event,
the fans can boo him all the time, but there's nothing behind that boo, right?

It will not affect him in terms of keeping his job and still continue to take over with the national team. It's been a long time when fans voices it out
and nothing has been change he still doing his job.

Maybe better to focus watching the game and try to forget about all those hates and let things to happen as it's uncontrollable to every fan
out there.

I read a post where he stated in the past, 'Judge me in the World Cup.' Therefore, I believe what we have witnessed is already sufficient to evaluate him and decide that he should not continue as the coach of Gilas Pilipinas. The type of plays they are implementing is painful to watch; there's no effective ball movement, and they seem overly reliant on Clarkson. Most likely, the plays are designed solely for our naturalized player.

Other teams, even when they have NBA players, still exhibit very smooth ball movement. In fact, we observed that even when Fernando was on the bench, Angola's offense continued to flow well.

I do not expect them to beat Italy. I think I saw a post in social media coming from the coach that "Italy is Italy." and they are focusing on Dominican Republic and Angola. If that is the case, then they did not prepare for Italy. So, I am assuming that it is already a lost even before the game even started. The mindset of the coach is very negative and there is too much politics in Philippine basketball. The result is a backwards basketball system.

Still, kudos to the players of the Philippines team. They are still giving it all in the court and we can see it in the close 2 games.

Not to add with the hate against the coach, but hearing that booed in your own crowd, that's something that he needed to address
or if not him, it should be the management behind the squad whoever in-charge in performing the selection and the program of the team.

Learning process is no longer effective as an alibi with these 2-consecutive losses.

I have to watch the replay of the game. I did not saw the booing when I was watching it live.

I was not surprised though; it is common sentiments that the coach is holding back the team. Almost all Filipino fans want the coach out, but he is very strong in SBP and keeps getting the job year after year even though there is no improvement.

Anyway, today we finally got our first mayor upset of the tournament with Japan beating Finland. I have learned that this was the first time ever Japan beat a European team in an official game.
And they way this game played out was crazy. Finland was up by 15/16 points with 12 minutes to play, needless to say they have been an around 12 point favourite to win.
And they Japan came back and won by 10, what an amazing comeback.

That was an amazing win unfortunately I was not able to witness it. I think Japan is the only Asian country to win in the tournament yet. With that win also, they have a higher chance to qualify to Olympics. There is only 1 slot for Asian region in the Olympics so it is very important for the Japanese that they got that win.

I got a 14:1 odds for Canada at that time, but I only bet 20euro, just for fun. Of course I also bet on 40:1 for Germany.
Lucky! Pre-tournament I saw Canada at 4.75 only and it's in my first post. If you got it at x14 then there's a chance you can cash out at good profits if ever they will face Team USA in the finals.

Very surprising and indeed, one of the biggest upsets and comeback.
Now FIBA made a voting event on which team made the biggest upset.

I like what is happening. Suddenly, not all eyes are just for Team USA. France being defeated twice is something new and then despite having NBA players on their roster was also defeated by Latvia.
Also, the Dominican Republic now being the top in their group after defeating Italy which was the top favorite before the event started.

Montenegro and Lithuania both have a 2-0 lead. Tomorrow, we will find out who is the best in their group when they battle in Manila, Mall of Asia Arena PH.

Jack of all trades 💯
I think it was definitely a good close game, and losses happens it is not really a big deal to lose this game and I think it should be important to realize that we are not going to get that much of a big deal out of this, World Cup should be something to care about but unfortunately USA doesn't seem to care all that much, look at their roster, they do not bring in the best players, so lets see when they will lose out, because I bet that this team can't win it all.
As for Team USA, that stack probably should be enough. Yet, they've got one of the best and championship coach which is Kerr and assistant coach, Erik Spoelstra.

With the match between Angola and the Philippines a while ago, I thought that Gilas would be able to beat Angola but Angola is the stronger team. I don't want to blame the coach despite being booed when shown on the screen in the arena. While most of our countrymen's sentiment is about the system and the coach. Anyway, full hate has always been given to Coach Chot as usual when they're beaten, can't blame the fans though.
Too bad for the Team Philippines are they are close enough to take the win and yet, they fall behind on their most important game to get a win, there is so much hate with the coaching staff since then, its too bad for the players to hear such cheer from the crowd, its not motivating at all. With regards to the USA team despite of not being dominant and don't have their NBA star players they still manage to get a win and that could be a good sign for a younger generation to make their own name, and this is a big opportunity for them.

Yeah, the expectations even bookies provided with the Philippines is high, after that great performance against DR, they been placed as favorite
but like what we witnessed, they fell short again and lose the game against Angola.

USA might be getting lucky with the wins right now but to be fair to them I do not see them winning the whole thing. They have built a team that could make some profit when the time comes but we have seen it not be all that better so the result is not really that good at this moment, the squad is not that great.

I think it is going to be very tough for them to get the win. Just like the last time out how they lost with Pop, they are going to probably do the same result again as well. It is just not possible for them to get this type of win without having their stars. I am sure one day some stars will do "redeem team" logic and build a big name squad, but until then they are not going to end up getting a good title at all.

I did not know KAT was Dominican, I thought he was American, interesting, I also did not expected to see Jordan Clarkson too, turns out he was from Philippines as well, I thought he was American too, so many players I thought to be American and turns out not from there and from another nation.

Bookies though are favoring USA to win overall on this event. So even if they are not bringing their best, they are the first choice to win.
Followed by Canada, Slovenia, Australia, France and Spain. Seems they are the favorite teams to top on this world cup.
Clarkson represents Philippines because he is a Fil-Am, and he decides to represent PH on this event and so with KAT, a Dominican-American.
In terms of betting, it would be easier to bet on a per group basis. And then once the group event finishes, that's when you will better see the chances of those teams left.
But if bettors are seeing the advantage of betting early, then, that's their choice because the odds are attractive right now.

Pre tournament betting looked a little different than what you are writing here. Canada had the 5th lowest odds, they were far from being favourites. And that was before Jamal Murray announced he won't play, same for Wiggins.

I got a 14:1 odds for Canada at that time, but I only bet 20euro, just for fun. Of course I also bet on 40:1 for Germany.

Who would have thought that of the both hosts Japan would be the team that still has a slight chance to advance, they have their face in their own hands, but beating Australia of course is a tough task.
Unfortunately PH lost and is mathematically not out yet, but to advance they need a minor miracle.

It's not that they aren't American they are, but theor heritage lies from those countries.  Meaning they didn't grow up there (I don't think) it's that maybe their parents were from those countries.  I don't know what the rules are in terms of who can represent who but pretty sure if you were born in the US that doesn't dismiss the fact you can represent another country.

Yeah, both KAT and Clarkson are US-born with foreign heritage. I believe both are dual citizens but FIBA has a unique rule. If someone was born outside of his heritage country and only secured a passport from that country after his 16th birthday, he can longer play as a local. This is the case of Jordan Clarkson, but he is still playing in his heritage country since FIBA allows one naturalized player per country. KAT secured his DR passport before his 16th birthday so his heritage country can still pick another naturalized player for its team. Just like Timberwolves' Kyle Anderson who is of zero Chinese blood but was naturalized and granted citizenship by China. FIBA however does not allow a player who already represented a country before to shift to another country which means KAT cannot play in the US team.

Slava Ukraini!
Wow, what an epic day in World Cup. France goes home after group stage after loss to Latvia. Latvia made impressive comeback in 4th quarter and I'm very happy for their win. While it seems that it's end of era for this France generation.
Japan were down by 18 points but won against favorites Finland and eliminated them. What emotions of Japan players and home crowd, it looked like they won World Cup.
Germany - Australia, another amazing game. Great win by Germany, but I think there was foul when Giddey tried to made buzzer beater.
Dominican Republic win against Italy, I'm not sure that we can call it as surprise. Italy squad this year isn't impressive at all.
Didn't watched Philippines - Angola, there should be huge disappointed because Angola is them that they should beat. Now they most likely will end tournament without wins.
Easy win for my Lithuania against Mexico and we in next round. Before that we will get tougher matchup against Montenegro.
Lebanon 73:128 Canada. Canada scored 100 points already after 3 quarters and such results don't give prestige for World Cup.

This game was the only "powerhouse" matchup today, the other games are mostly higher handicap games.
Let's hope the Philippines beat Angola to stay alive in their group. It would be nice to keep the great atmosphere in the host country going.

The PH crowd will give a great atmosphere as support to this league with or without PH actively playing because we consider US team as our second home team due to our strong admiration on Basketball and the one who introduces this sports to our country.

Nevertheless, PH crowd will always support this support no matter what happened to our team because many of us here is a great critics towards our own team. You know, We support, we bash and that's we have fun here.  Grin

Germany with the expected close and tough game vs a great Australian team, but we got the better end and now are with 1 foot in the next round.  Grin

We played very focussed and even when the refs made a lot of strange calls against us, we prevailed.
Dennis showed his leader abilities in this match for sure, he had a big game with 30 points. Another standout for me was Maodo Lo who had a great 4th quarter when we went from -4 to +6 within the first 90 seconds of the last period.

Given the fact that Finland lost BIG vs Australia it's safe to say that we should be as good as qualified for the next round. Mathematically we can still bust out but that would be very surprising.

It's a close game between the Philippines and Angola, just a slight lead by the Angolans 36-33. And I think it's a hard game to predict but early one the Philippines was the favorite pre-game and they are still the favorite even though they are down.

Yes, I would like the Philippines to win, so that fans will continue to support the game. Although even if they go up and bow, as basketball crazy loving fans, there are still a lot of good teams to watch especially the USA team.

The Dominican Republic could potentially win this game, especially considering that Italy's coach has been ejected. With just a one-point lead entering the 3rd quarter, the game's progression remains uncertain. KAT continues to perform at his usual level, and that's crucial for the Dominican team to maintain their lead and potentially upset Italy.

KAT has already scored 15 points, while Feliz has contributed 18 points; their offense seems to be functioning smoothly.

https://www.fiba.basketball/live-scores

Italy coach needs a lot of patience since he was involved on this same issue last year on FIBA Euro. I didn't watch the game but I'm surprised on the result so I made research to found out that their coach ejected before the first half ended.

Although Italy has assistant coach, It's very hard to maintain a same level of confidence playing with the main coach. Also Dominican Republic game improves a lot compared to their game against PH. Kat is now doing assist and not forcing his way in on rim while his teammates improves significantly their shooting accuracy that helps them secure the win over Italy that is still adjusting.

GGWP to those who bet for Dominican. It Gilas time now.
