Germany with the expected close and tough game vs a great Australian team, but we got the better end and now are with 1 foot in the next round.  Grin

We played very focussed and even when the refs made a lot of strange calls against us, we prevailed.
Dennis showed his leader abilities in this match for sure, he had a big game with 30 points. Another standout for me was Maodo Lo who had a great 4th quarter when we went from -4 to +6 within the first 90 seconds of the last period.

Given the fact that Finland lost BIG vs Australia it's safe to say that we should be as good as qualified for the next round. Mathematically we can still bust out but that would be very surprising.

This game was the only "powerhouse" matchup today, the other games are mostly higher handicap games.
Let's hope the Philippines beat Angola to stay alive in their group. It would be nice to keep the great atmosphere in the host country going.

There's also Italy vs the Dominican Republic; this match promises excitement because the Dominican Republic is the underdog, and I'm placing a bet on them with +200 odds. With KAT (Karl-Anthony Towns) in the lineup, I see this team as an improved unit that could potentially pose challenges to Italy. While Italy might have a size advantage, the question remains: How can they contain KAT's productivity, especially in the paint? Furthermore, if the defense fails to close out quickly, he might engage in a 3-point shootout during this game.

Watching Dominican Republic against PH makes me think that KAT is holding or he is not coordinated with his teammates since he has few assists and most of his score is only on his own effort.

Dominican Republic also has a very bad free throw and 3pts accuracy. They only win against Philippines because KAT is unstoppable that gives him a lot of foul when he attack but I doubt that he can do this too on Italy with much stronger line-up. Dominican has a chance to win if they will coordinate all their attacks with KAT by giving him assist and space to make an easy points.

The significant size advantage of Italy in this game is quite apparent. It's reassuring to see that the Dominican Republic's shooting is on target. KAT is also performing impressively. I believe this game holds a high level of unpredictability. Italy might take the lead in the first half, but considering what occurred in the Philippines game, KAT could potentially pick up momentum in the second half.

As of now, the score stands at 37-36, with Italy holding just a 1-point lead with less than 2 minutes remaining in the 2nd quarter.

The Dominican Republic could potentially win this game, especially considering that Italy's coach has been ejected. With just a one-point lead entering the 3rd quarter, the game's progression remains uncertain. KAT continues to perform at his usual level, and that's crucial for the Dominican team to maintain their lead and potentially upset Italy.

KAT has already scored 15 points, while Feliz has contributed 18 points; their offense seems to be functioning smoothly.

Here is another fun fact from NeonMan himself,

The record attendance for a FIBA game was 25 years ago, Dream Team II at 32,000. While the Arena in the Philippines and the attendance there was 38,115 fans rooting for Gilas to win, unfortunately, KAT was too strong. Kai Sotto try to guard him but it was clearly a mismatch.

But the good thing about KAT is that he recognized and respect the efforts of team Philippines.

He see how passionate the Filipino on basketball and he receive a lot of love from Philippines so expect that he will say something good to their opponent also to the host country. But its really a tight game between Philippines and Dominican Republic if Philippines didn't collapsed on last quarter and Clarkson didn't get fouled out maybe the result is different. Philippines coaching staff seems having a big mess and looks like he don't have proper plan if Clarkson is out of the game.

That was the turning point – when he fouled out, it became the reason why the Philippines couldn't find their offensive rhythm anymore. Nevertheless, I believe it's time to move forward. With two more games ahead, I hope the Philippines will learn from their mistakes and make the necessary adjustments. We have a good opportunity against Angola, although I'm uncertain about our chances against Italy.

For the article I read and noise on social media many Filipino basketball fans doesn't like the current coach because his system use is outdated and it really show how inconsistent he is in creating crucial decision that's why they always left behind by their opponents. Lets hope that their lose to Dominican republic will be their wake up call to create more better plays and decision especially on crucial minutes. They there full of talents but they are just been wasted because their coaching staff doesn't know how to use them they just let Clarkson get tired and receive more fouls then we see how bad the result it turns for them.

Indeed, the Pilipinas have a good roster and yet coach Chot Reyes, their coach, cannot utilize them all to make a much better play and just like what he had done to the team the other day, it was evident that he's not the right man for the job. Even the Filipino fans knew that there are others who is more deserving but they were not given a chance to have another coach.

There are lots of window at that time that he could've pull out a good move as a coach but it's like he don't see it or sometimes, he's already late before he realized it. Even the challenge calls wasn't utilized well.

He didn't properly utilize his player and used those people who's afraid to shoot then create more turnovers on crucial minutes that's the reason why they lose. If they could just change the management for sure they can get a good result with their campaign.
But let see it still one game if they lose again and didn't have good plays used. Maybe its time for the coach to realize that he's not helping the national team anymore and step down to most deserving one than him.

Disappointed with the matches yesterday. Asian, African and Oceanian teams were destroyed by Europeans and Americans. Serbia had an easy win over China, with a margin of 105-63. USA swept the floor with New Zealand, to win by 99-72. And in the third match, Ivory Cost lost to Spain by a margin of 64-94. For me, the only interesting match was the one between South Sudan and Puerto Rico. The former gave a tough fight to Puerto Rico, but eventually lost by the slightest of the margins (96-101). This team shows a lot of promise for sure.
Brazil also blew out Iran by a big margin. When I saw the score in the first half, I could not find the energy to watch the game. And correct I think the game between South Sudan against Puerto Rico is the only close game that also end up in overtime thanks to Jones shooting the three to tie the game and the fans being involved to disturb the last 2 free-throw of Puerto Rico.  Grin

About the USA, whoever took the -35 handicap is a loser now. New Zealand may have lost that game but those gamblers who took the risk of taking +35 for them are winners now. That's still 1.80+ of a win, sadly I didn't take it, I didn't have the courage to do so against a strong team like the USA.

Later we will have interesting games to watch.

Italy versus the Dominican Republic - who is really the strongest in their group. 4 PM GMT+8
Australia versus Germany - a must-watch game. 4:30 PM GMT+8

I think I will need two televisions.  Cheesy

New Zeland managed to be close to USA for big part of time, but while watching game it was obvious that's only matter of time when USA will run away.

Kinda thought that New Zealand have that one in the bag. USA tuned it up big time on the second quarter and made sure that there are very minimal turnovers on the third. After that, I know that New Zealand is already losing hope, with most of their plays no longer centered on the inside and are just trying to take the threes whenever possible. It was a good effort, but certainly not as exciting since the game is pretty one-sided when the end of the 2nd quarter is nearing.
It was a good game for both teams and USA really work hard to erase the double digit lead of New Zealand and prevail at the end.
This may not be the most dominant players for USA but I think they are still doing good and making a great name for their own.

yeah, seems that they are proving that even they are not composed of a heavy favorite superstars from NBA they still competing and showing what they've got, it will be a more interesting journey to them if they will going to win the title, though the advantage is having great coaches and the rotations and blending of players is really balance, it will be on the players side to work and to win against their opponents.

Too early for giving an opinion if who's going to win and there are many teams to watch out, squad who can upset any teams and play as competitive as what we are all expecting from all the selected squads.

Honestly, I just knew the entire team without being familiarized with their roster. Maybe just Haddadi? There were too many upsets during this FIBA world cup opening.

And if I'm not mistaken, there is Iran A and Iran B, please correct me if I'm wrong. And yeah it was just Haddadi that we are more familiar.
Yeah, they've got two teams but I'm not sure which was the one that's played against Brazil.

I haven't put a single bet on the tournament though, but congrats to those who have been in the winning runs already. But as you have said, handicaps are also hard to bet right now because there could be upsets in the coming days. Like the other day, no one expects Canada to blow up the France team, but as I have said, they are the second favorite in this tournament and looks solid.
Maybe for the last matches to see if you can count on them or if they've been consistent for the first and second matches of theirs. Later on, there will be more matches and that's also a good time to place some bets if you want to. So, surprising upsets were there left and right and expect that some of it will be seen for the upcoming matches.

In the bag? In the 1st quarter? haha
USA was down 16 with 13 min to go against Germany in their last test match and in the end won by 8.
I bet when they were down 10 after some minutes the handicap was still at least -20 points.
Against the US team you never have it in the bag. They kept the game "open" for like 23 min, after that it wasn't close at all.

Today will be the big group game for Germany facing Australia. Both teams showed good and bad sides in their first game. For Australia it was the bad 1st half, for Germany the 2nd was weak.

I think this matchup could be a close one, so are the odd with Australia being like a 2 point favourite to win.

Hopefully Germany can prevail so there will be no pressure before the 3rd and final game versus Finland.

Today it was such boring day, from all 8 games only one - South Sudan - Puerto Rico was interesting. Blowouts by 30-40 points don't help to attract spectators, but it's quiteusual image in group stages of World Cup. Simply because gap between elite teams and rest of world is huge.
While South Sudan - Puerto Rico was close game as expected. Disappointed about outcome of game, I supported South Sudan, win in debut game of World cup would be big thing for this young and poor country.

Tomorrow it will be much more interesting day. Australia - Germany or France - Latvia sounds exciting, Italy - Dominican Republic too. Our neighbours Latvia got very complicated group, if they want to reach next round, they have to beat either France or Canada. Philippines have great chance to get their win in World Cup, playing against Angola.
It was an intense and exciting game though I'm at a loss on that game as I favored to South Sudan with 1.97 odds at -2.5. Well, they are in the lead until the end of 3rd quarter but they can't keep it sealed in the last quarter and maybe experience was the key here that Puerto Rico won. I think Philippines has the chance really there to win over Angola but would be tough with the speed especially over the Angolan point guard Dundao, he's the dark horse on that squad.

There’s only one team allowed on world cup. There’s no Iran A and B team if you are pertaining that they have 2 team for the world cup.

I remember clearly Haddadi since he is the one that keeps defeating Philippines on previous FIBA Asia qualifiers due to to his height. I’m surprised that he is still active until now but sad for them since they seems doesn’t have good players on their roster.

Canada to blow up the France team, but as I have said, they are the second favorite in this tournament and looks solid.

Canada is the best team next to USA with their current roster that is full pack of young NBA player that performs well in NBA especially Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. He is a monster even when he play on OKC while France only have Gobert that can’t cover all the shooters from Canada that kills them since they can’t answer on the 2nd half.

Yeah, Philippines performed well and though Gilas lost, nothing to be ashamed as they left everything they got in the court last night and let us if they can bring the same intensity against Angola tomorrow.

If they bring the same intensity in the court against Angola, they have a chance to get a win tomorrow. And maybe, rotate the players better. Jordan Clarkson is good scorer, but we see him falter later in the game because he is already exhausted. All the 12 Gilas members are good players, if they rotate them properly, they can give Jordan Clarkson the needed rest.

In fairness to the coaches of Gilas, they did research and created good strategies to counter the bigs of Dominican Republic. If you watched the game, you can see KAT was not getting easy shots and Edu was limiting his touches. That is why the game was just a close game. The coach just faltered on properly rotating his players to give his main men rest.

Anyway, the fans cannot do anything about who will be placed to coach the national team. There is just too much politics in Philippine basketball that it is already limiting the potential of the players.

I'm cheering for the Philippines to secure a victory against Angola, although they are now heavily favored.
We have to. Everyone is cheering for them in group A. Despite that it's not really going to be an easy way, 2 more games and the next one will define if there's still a chance or none although the last match is against Italy and it's like a hands-up match for the Gilas. This isn't the Gilas that we used to know, despite of being belittled and having a little chance to get on. We've seen how the team cope up against Dominican Republic which have been thought that will stomped the team easily but no. Angola for tomorrow and then Italy on Tuesday. Many are hoping that by tomorrow, they could get a win against them but on Tuesday, it's like that the majority are no longer optimistic.

Even the head coach said that they cannot defeat Italy. They already given up even before the fight even started. That is why I do not like this coach, he does not uplift his players and he got too much politics going on. Gilas best bet should have been winning against Dominican Republic and Angola so we can move on to the next round. But since we lost to Dominican Republic, Gilas should win the next two games to move on to the next round.

Indeed, the Pilipinas have a good roster and yet coach Chot Reyes, their coach, cannot utilize them all to make a much better play and just like what he had done to the team the other day, it was evident that he's not the right man for the job. @tabas - yeah, Iran used to be a good team in the past, but I haven't followed their roster though. Maybe they have a lot of new players and those who have experienced have retired already. Hence, they can't keep up with a team like Brazil in this FIBA.
Honestly, I just knew the entire team without being familiarized with their roster. Maybe just Haddadi? There were too many upsets during this FIBA world cup opening.

I just break even in the Philippines vs Dominican Republic game, was able to catch the +11.5 but my ML lost beating on Philippines.
That's fine as long as you're able to break even instead of having losses, I'd take it than the opposite.
