Spain has performed very well since entering the semifinals by beating Sweden 2 - 1 and qualifying for the final against England until in the end Spain won the 2023 Women's World Cup thanks to the only goal scored by Carmona in the first round, the two of them competed very fiercely with attacking each other on goal but it was great for Spain to hold off the English attack and hold on to the lead until the second half ended.
This is the first title for Spain that has won the FIFA Women's World Cup trophy.

Previously, even Spain had never made it to the finals, but now they have a new record in the FIFA Women's World Cup, even the US, which won the most, namely 4 times, could not last until the semifinals.

There were quite a few upsets this time. Before the tournament started, Spain was not even in the top-5 list put up by different sportsbooks. Some of the favorites, such as United States got kicked out even before the quarter-final stage. France went down against Australia during QF. In the semis, England was the only top-5 team that managed to enter. And even they went down against Spain in the final. In a way, it was similar to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Quite a lot of upsets, and better performances from AFC and CAF teams.
I agree with what you said!
I believe, football is like a box of chocolates you never know what you are going to get
For example, i underestimated the spanish team and i bet that England would win, I had strong convictions that Sweden would win against Spain and again I lost lol
After all the Spanish team, they played extremely well and were champions! well deserved!

Ok but you could argue that way for so many sports. Would anyone for the sake of performance prefer Swiatek vs. Sabalenka over Alcaraz vs. Djokovic in tennis? If someone wants to see maximum speed and physical intensity, women can't compete with that. But besides supporting women sports, it is also about supporting one's own home country and because of the thrill to watch the event as I think that a women's final can still be fun to watch even when everyone knows that in absolute terms it won't be as physically intense as a men's final. Yet it can be exciting.

The issue with tennis is that the rules are different. Women play for a shorter duration (maximum of 3 sets), while the men have to play for approximately 60% longer (maximum 5 sets). At least in the case of football, the rules are the same and both of them have to put in the same effort. But then, it is true that biologically women can't put the same intensity and energy as men. Goals in women's football are not as beautiful or complicated as the top goals in men's game. All that said, there is no point in a comparison. Both the men's game and women's game has its own attractions.

Also, the viewership of Men's football is far more than the viewership of women's football. There is no comparison between Men's and Women's football in terms of ability, records and game strength. That is why we do not see the mix of football matches of both genders as we see in tennis or other sports.

The first women's World Cup was held in 1991 in China while the first men's World Cup was held in 1930 in Uruguay. So you can very easily see that men's football has a lot of history as compared to women's football.

I wouldn't fully agree with you on the goals being not as beautiful in women's football as they are in men's football. I found a nice summary that is worth watching and shows some impressive goals that really don't look any different than goals in men's football. But check it out yourself.

I think the main difference is speed, but in terms of technique it does sometimes look less challenging because the game is a bit slower when played by women, but the technical challenge itself can still be extreme. Ball control, perfect passing into a deep free space and so on and so forth, I have seen many many scenes that impressed me.

Though the discussion still makes sense for example when we have transgender people involved. That clearly shows how big of a difference it can be when people with male(-like) genetics play against women.

Women's soccer is definitely on the rise in terms of popularity and it is really no surprise that viewership numbers are increasing most of the time.

The dominance of the Spanish team reminds me of the good old times the Spanish men had a bit more than a decade ago. They played well in all regards. But it is surprising that the Spanish women have had so less success in the last decades. The round of 167 was the best they could achieve before this title.

WWC2023 was probably the most viewed ever in their history.

I think it's mostly due to people putting a lot of money in marketing, because I think they want to sell this tournament for more money.

In terms of actual football quality, it doesn't really compare with the World Cup.

Most of the people that I've spoken to in real life were kinda just watching it because it was "popular", basically the TV and news, etc, have been pushing it. Almost no one was watching the game for the actual football, it was mostly in support of women.

This is the first title for Spain that has won the FIFA Women's World Cup trophy.
They are now number one on the FIFA women ranking for best women football teams as a result of their triumph in the just concluded world cup. They were one of the teams that scored the most goals, they defended well and were also tactically smart. They deserve to be on the top of the rankings. The first ten teams are;
Quote
The top ten ranking is led by winners Spain, followed by England, Sweden, Australia, Japan, France, Netherlands, Colombia, USA, and Nigeria

USA who are the usual winners of the competition are not in top five, and Nigerian women made the top ten, the only country from Africa in position, making them first in Africa. They were ranked ahead of other big women football names like Germany, Brazil etc.

https://newtelegraphng.com/fifa-ranks-falcons-10th-after-womens-world-cup/

I don't know much about rankings in women's football. But I would assume that women players participate in far less matches every year, compared to their male counterparts. As a result, becoming champions or runners-up in one tournament can have a big impact on the rankings, as we are witnessing from the case of England and Spain. Teams like USA and Germany on the other hand are likely to drop down quite a bit, due to their poor performance this time. And as we know, the women's world cup occurs only once every 4 years.

Globally, there is as much interest in boys' football as in girls' football, but not as much. We only enjoy girls football matches in big tournaments. Friendly matches outside the big tournaments are the matches but we don't keep much news. We may have been interested in the results of these matches after watching the Women's World Cup, but if it was a friendly match and not a World Cup, we would not have discussed these matches.
2023 Women's World Cup champions Spain and runners-up England so Spain and England may be on top of the rankings so far and the rankings may change based on the results of the upcoming matches.

I don't think those prices will ever be the same to the World Cup ones, and that's fine.

In the same way that other sports and other football leagues don't get the same attention and price as the World Cup. It's fine.

If they set the ticket prices at the same level as those for the men's world cup, then hardly anyone would be attending the women's event. But at least this time, the crowd attendance was exceptional. Huge number of people came to the stadiums to watch the world cup matches live, despite the relatively smaller populations in host nations (Australia and New Zealand). With each passing edition, this tournament can only get more and more popular. And I have high hopes for the 2027 edition (for which the host nation is not yet decided).

Not an apple to apple comparison. Men's football is the most popular sport on the globe at this point (and that too by a distance). Women's football is gaining popularity, but viewership is only a fraction of that of men's game. Men's football stars are 10x or 20x more popular than the most valuable players in women's football. But that is how sport works. Biological differences mean that women doesn't have the same flexibility and agility as men. As a result, they fare poorly in team sports such as football, rugby, cricket and baseball.

True.

In my mind the WWC is kind of a niche sport.

I talked with a lot of people that watched it, and a lot of them just watched it because they were women playing, and equality and all that. Fair enough.

But that kind of attraction will not bring ticket prices up. I mean, people went to the stadium (many matches had a lot of empty seats though) because they were pretty cheap in comparison to the World Cup:

I really enjoyed the championship overall, there were some very interesting matches to watch

I think the biggest goal difference was in the Netherlands x Vietnam match, which was 7-0
Many predicted that there would be matches with more than 10 goals, even at the start of the championship the bets were all on a lot of goals, but it was more balanced than they thought
--> Matches with less goals
--> End of absolute dominance by the United States
--> 4 teams that had never been champions reached the semi-finals and of course we saw a new champion

Anyway, the women are to be congratulated, soccer has evolved, the teams are more balanced, the matches were more exciting and the dominance is changing, I think it was all good and even better than expected
I bet you guys were surprised by the championship too  Smiley

Did you guys manage to make a profit on your bets or were the results so surprising that you lost money?

It is the unpredictability of the tournament that makes it interesting and exciting. A lot of things didn't go according to the bookmakers' script. I came to the conclusion that sometimes I like to cheer for the underdogs, this has its own excitement. Although it is worth saying that the team is a favorite in a football match, it certainly deserves a victory. But different circumstances such as: team spirit, luck, and crazy motivation can lead to the victory of the underdog.

I remembered my old bet before the 2018 World Cup, when the bookmakers predicted the victory to Germany before the start of the championship. I bet on them to win, but in the end they didn’t even make it out of the group and played just awful.

Well, I will have to agree with you even though I am not sure if your analysis is right or wrong, atleast, I myself can testify that I watched most matches in the WWC2023, and it's my first time ever of giving such attention to women's football, I even went the extra mile of having to bet on some couple of games, and even though I lost most, I still won some.

Overall, I think the women are improving, and for the fact that the women's world cup is still pretty young, I think with time, they will improve greatly, most especially when more talent are discovered, though I doubt if they would be ever as interesting as that of the men.

Congratulations Spain, for this achievement of the Women's Football World Cup.

The English, despite having had a good World Cup, had some instability throughout the tournament. Spain, in turn, remained consistent throughout the World Cup and was more efficient in the final. They weren't considered favorites, but throughout the World Cup, with the main teams leaving, Spain became a team with the potential to win, which happened.

In terms of actual football quality, it doesn't really compare with the World Cup.

But you can't compare!
You can't compare the Men's World Cup, which is almost 100 years old, with the Women's World Cup, which is only about 30 years old.

First you have to attract attention, so that more players can appear and in turn more money, so that women's football can increase its quality. And that takes years, because football careers are short and you need a lot of players to find really great talent.
Women's World Cup have come to an end. Spain with the FIFA Women's World Cup win have made itself the second country to win both Men and Women FIFA World Cup. This had been the most popular Women's Football World Cup organised. Two million tickets sold throughout the tournament is a record. It is not football, in every sports there is inequality among the Men and Women teams. The Women's Football leagues should be given importance through which we can expect the increase in the quality of the players and the team.

It is always good to see new country winning the world cup for the first time as it will be boring if same old country comes and win it. History has been made by the women football players of Spain as this is the first time that Spain will win the WWC. They deserve the victory because they have been consistent in their matches and determined without losing focus on how to achieve this great success. I was actually thinking that it was England who will win the cup but I was wrong as I judged from my own mindset. Congratulations to the Spain women football team on their achievement.
Seriously, it’s nice seeing another country win the World Cup, Spain already created a record. If the same country keeps on winning it, then it’s going to get boring, but at least we now see a new club winning it, and I am sure the next World Cup will also be different because we might end up seeing a different country that hasn’t won the World Cup before winning it. Spain performed very well in the World Cup, and they really deserve the cup. Most people think England is going to win the cup, but they lost to Spain with just a goal difference. The two clubs played well in the match, but Spain won the match with a goal difference, which makes them the winner of the cup.
