Now I ask the question: What was the biggest disappointment in your opinion?

The United States?
New Zealand, Brazil, Canada?

For me it was the USA. The world champion team had a very haughty posture, and that was noticeable on the field. Each game that passed, they showed less, convinced that they would win the games.

And that can be clearly seen in the game against Portugal, where they did just enough to draw. Noting that they were convinced they were going to win. It is true that they ended up drawing. But with minutes to go, they could have nearly lost. They didn't lose in that game, they lost in the next game.

Don't know why everyone is talking about the behaviour of the president of the Spanish football more than the victory of the Spanish team. I see this thing being discussed more on the social media and less people are talking about the actual win that the Spanish girls achieved.

I do not think this is so important that we discuss it. Also, why don't we check the reaction of the Spanish girl after kissing? She was equally involved in it and also when the kiss and hug was over, the Spanish girl did not show any embarrassment or something like that.

I don't want to get into issues of harassment, sexism or anything else here.

The only thing I can say is that the attitude was not adequate for the situation. For me, it was only validated if they came to say they had the romantic affair. And since that hasn't happened so far, it's clear proof that it was something inappropriate.

The player, that same night, made it clear that she didn't like it, saying later "but what could I do?"
They can say what they want, it was not appropriate, even if they had a romantic affair, because that is an official event and people must behave appropriately to the situation they are experiencing. And he is a representative of a country, he must have a dignified and respectful attitude. Which he clearly didn't have.

For me it was Brazil, who didn't even make it past the group stage, it was quite frustrating not to even reach the round of 16

Definitely France for me. They were one of the best teams in the tournament and should have eliminated Australia without difficulty but failing to do so cost them their place in the semi finals. Same Australia that couldn't win England or Sweden. And of course, Brazil. Great team and started well but their WWC journey was cut short.

And Finally, Nigeria. They had the chance to win England and blew it away by not closing the game in the closing stages when England went 1 woman down.

Soon after final it was announced that father of Golden goal author Olga Carmona passed away. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/66566564
As she posted on Twitter, it's the best and worst day in her life. It's difficult to imagine her emotions after what she experienced in one day.

Good question. New Zealand - no way, there was no big expectations about them and that they won against Norway what is huge achievement.
Probably Brazil who got eliminated after group stage already and their group wasn't really strong. USA is disappointment, but after all they got eliminated by another strong team.

By far the US, they barely escaped group play and on the heels of 2 straight world cup titles not winning a single game in the elimination round was certainly disappointing.  I think that was also the earliest they've ever been booted from the tournament as well.

Congratulations Spain, for this achievement of the Women's Football World Cup.

The English, despite having had a good World Cup, had some instability throughout the tournament. Spain, in turn, remained consistent throughout the World Cup and was more efficient in the final. They weren't considered favorites, but throughout the World Cup, with the main teams leaving, Spain became a team with the potential to win, which happened.

For the first time in history Spain has won the Women's World Cup. It's a historic moment..
A historical moment that Spain made in Sydney to lift the Women's World Cup for the first time. The joy will be overwhelming for them cos they never expected to be the winner of the Women's World Cup after losing one of their matches to Japan(4-0). England was everyone's favorite to lift the WWC but as football match results are, you can't predict who wins a match after 90mins of the match has been played.
Congratulations to Spain for making us believe  once again that any team can win a match despite the team they are playing against if they make up their mind to

Read it through the local media in my country, and both of them gave quite different clarifications, Hermoso asked not to need to be extended but she should have been more assertive in expressing her feelings whether she likes it or not because this is not good for the development of women's sports, meanwhile, Luis Rubiales responded more jokingly, and it's not uncommon when there are scandals but it could be just excessive emotions which eventually lead to scandals, but if you often watch matches in this women's football tournament then you will find some treatment that is inappropriate when the official team hugs one of their players but not do it to this player.
Many have asked for what happened to these two men to be investigated.
It seems that Spain's victory was tarnished a bit because of the excessive behavior of the president of the Spanish football federation and it seems that there will always be things to tarnish the celebrations because they cannot control themselves.

We should rather talk about the player's game performances and discuss about the world cup heroes and not indulge too much in their personal life.

When Spain were thrashed 4-0 by Japan in the group stage match, we didn't think for once that this team would win a World Cup tournament for the first time. Spain returned to the tournament with a fresh start after being defeated by Japan 4-0 in the group stage. Barring the result of this one match against Japan, Spain were an unstoppable team for the rest of the tournament. When Spain defeated Sweden in the first semi-final match to confirm the final, it seemed that maybe for the first time Spain is going to win the Women's World Cup because Spain's performance against Sweden was really great.
Spain performed much better than England in the final match against England due to which they were able to defeat England in the final match.

... thankgoodness i had a change of mind and decided not to bet on the finals, it would had been more painful watching them lose and also  knowing my stake is at risk....

Hehe, congratulations, in some situations where there is a lot of doubt, it may be better not to bet and just watch the game.
Bet on results that you are more confident about

Not sure if England played badly in this final or indeed the opponent was too strong  Cheesy

Both things  Cheesy
Spain really were a team that played at a high level, they played well (even if I don't approve the way they played to gain time in the final 45 minutes), but England couldn't show the soccer that they showed in other matches and that made them win the Euros and get to the world cup final.
They only had 3 shots on goal out of a total of 8 shots.
That's not much for a team that made it to the final, unfortunately they couldn't keep it up
But 2nd place is a great achievement  Smiley

I think England was the current European champion, so at least they have that going on for them.

FIFA president mentioned that this has been the most successful WWC, and I agree. This has been by far the most popular one in their 3 decades of history.

As a comparison, the men's tournament is about to turn one century old.

By the way, anyone else noticed the trophy?, not a fan to be honest... nothing compared to the world cup trophy.
It is always good to see new country winning the world cup for the first time as it will be boring if same old country comes and win it. History has been made by the women football players of Spain as this is the first time that Spain will win the WWC. They deserve the victory because they have been consistent in their matches and determined without losing focus on how to achieve this great success. I was actually thinking that it was England who will win the cup but I was wrong as I judged from my own mindset. Congratulations to the Spain women football team on their achievement.

Congratulations to Spain for winning the World Cup, on the news channels in Portuguese that I could see and it left me very shocked and I thought it was very wrong and this kind of thing should not happen in sport, I mean this:

 Shocked

Luis Rubiales, president of the Spanish Football Federation kissed the mouth of the Spanish player named Jenni Hermoso, honestly this is a very reprehensible attitude, if he does this with these players he faces the cameras so what is he doing with these players without being filmed can be scary, it's called sexual harassment and the laws are tough about it especially in sport when it involves high-ranking officials harassing women in sport. this girl probably has a boyfriend or husband or kids and how must the husband or girlfriend feel seeing these kinds of things? no doubt they must be irritated by the behavior of the president of the Spanish Football Federation

I for sure share the same opinion with you, but however, this can only be considered sexual harassment if the lady herself wasn't in support of the act, that is, if the president had forced his mouth into her own mouth, which I think is not the outplay here, judging from the way the lady in the picture is seen holding the president, and it doesn't matter whether she has a husband or boyfriend, that we cant really be sure of, but the one important factor here is she herself, what does she think or how does she feel about the approach? was she comfortable kissing the president and allowed it on her own will? or does she feel forced or compelled to do it out of her will?, that will tell if its a sexual harassment or not..

And lets not forget that sometimes, over excitements can push or drive us to doing a lot of awkward things, this also can possibly be the cause of the outplay in the picture.

Anyways, a big congratulations for the Spain women for winning the 2023 FIFA women's world cup.

well, this event is being widely talked about in the news and she already commented on it and said that she didn't like that attitude and nobody would be happy with that kind of attitudes because those are professional athletes like men and they should be treated with the same respect as I give to men

I keep asking myself if he would do that if it was the main men's team, can you imagine if he was going to do that with Sergio Ramos? no doubt he would get punched in the face Grin

Women's soccer is definitely on the rise in terms of popularity and it is really no surprise that viewership numbers are increasing most of the time.

The dominance of the Spanish team reminds me of the good old times the Spanish men had a bit more than a decade ago. They played well in all regards. But it is surprising that the Spanish women have had so less success in the last decades. The round of 167 was the best they could achieve before this title.

Probably best result for the good of the game still developing that England doesn't win this time.   Has to be a chance any team at all can win it in potential, I feel sorry for the US team coach not sure its entirely their fault and enough reason that they should resign but no doubt it alleviates pressure from the team and they move forward for the next cycle.

Finally, Spain won the Women's World Cup by defeating England in the final match of the 2023 Women's World Cup. Spain beat England by one goal in a thrilling match. The two teams fought hard and Spain won the match 1-0. When Spain went ahead with Carmona's goal in the 29th minute of the game, England could not repay that goal in any way. England had a chance to take the lead in the first 15 minutes but unfortunately England's shot deflected off the goal post, denying England the opportunity to score. After that, England could not create much opportunity against Spain. Spain's goal difference to England could have been 2-0 as the referee awarded a penalty for handing an England player inside the D box but the England goalkeeper made a brilliant save. No other team was able to score after that, resulting in Spain 2023 World Cup champions.

Well finally we have a winner here after going through a long struggle overall Spain really dominates even though England can follow their play style unfortunately the Spain's defense is strong enough to hold all the attacks. This is the first time Spain champion who was previously not considered to have a chance to win it while England is a finalist in the semi -finals in the previous tournament in 2019 that's why England is a little favored in the final even though in the end they lost.

The final match of the Women's World Cup was a lot of fun.  But England could not prevent the goal given by Spain in the 29th minute. Due to which they lost the match 1-0. losing a match in the final is very painful. In this regard Spain is very lucky and I appreciate their victory. they played very hard and scored 1 goal in the match as well as they took the ball into the penalty area a few times but could not complete the goal.  But the fact that they have become champions is a big achievement for them.

To be honest, they deserved this win, they played well though out the tournament here in the final also. Everyone talks about the missing plenty but we forget that Spain got the lead in the 29 minutes of the game and they kept this lead till the end of this match. This is by far a very good performance when you consider it they are playing in the WC final.

Luis Rubiales, president of the Spanish Football Federation kissed the mouth of the Spanish player named Jenni Hermoso, honestly this is a very reprehensible attitude,

I don't know it it was intentional or it was the feeling of joy.  Also the player Jenni Hermoso did not show any emotion of surprise or disturbance by this act, which clearly shows that it was done with a positive winning vibe and no other emotions involved.

I almost laid money on England in this one, thanking myself now for laying off.  Didn't get to watch the game but it seemed like a tight match all the way through.  Great touny for Spain and heartbreak for England.

Lately, I’m a bit hesitant sometimes to put up money on women’s football myself. Sadly, I haven’t had much luck. But the game was tight alright. The game produced only one goal which was was scored early on in the first half and that proved to the winning goal.

I bet England had badly hoped for an equalizer during the final moments of the game so perhaps the game could go into penalties but Spain was dead set on holding onto their lead while trying to increase the tally till the end. Good game and a great win for Spain.
