Win 7
Win 10  both have their places
I prefer linux for up time

All three suck at times
All three work well at times.

I dont understand why yall activate windows 10, i am still running rigs with un-activated windows 10 without issues.... i just do the option to ignore putting the key in on install, then install the software and leave it be... it just has the annoying watermark, but i could care less...

While this is true;  there are limitations to what you can do; lets say install a certain driver or whatever the case may be... granted; most of the issues are with actually using the machine as a workspace.
No you will never encounter any issues at all. The worst issue I have ever had is it would not let me change my background image because I was not activated. The horror.

Really I am not going to deal with Microsofts crap. I had a Windows 8 machine, upgraded to Windows 10, replaced a failed hard drive, now it says it is no longer activated.  Roll Eyes Fortunately there are easy ways around that. Seriously, their licensing is god awful.

A specific (big) Win 10 upgrade is required to install the Nvidia driver for the 1080ti card. I'm not sure what you are proposing will allow this upgrade.

On another note, win 10 professional allows the user to move their Win 10 copy around. I'm thinking if your Win 8 was a non professional version, then it's stuck to the machine.

To people interested with the ETH Dag fix, it seems there is a solution here :
https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/ethash-dag-epoch-rx470480570580-fix-2068446

An official AMD driver would of course be better, and maybe SMos users could be saved too :

Congrats to you and your wife Phil!  Enjoy the beautiful day.

We went to Spring Lake  NJ  and had dinner at the Breakers.  It is a  nice hotel-restaurant. Food was good  and we walked the boardwalk  after that.

A nice day for sure.

Today is my 31st wedding anniversary  so I will not be posting much today.

Congrats!  It's always neat to hear that this sort of thing still happens in this day and age to old farts.  Tongue

Truly marrying my wife in 1986 was and is a solid win-win for the two of us.

Congrats, Phil! And Mrs Phil.

if you get your hands on win10 ltsb it will never update.  It will still get security patches, but no updates to knock out the activator.

Well;  I myself am pointing out a way to get fully legitimate copies of W10.   If you happen to have the OEM licensing ability for win7, then this is a win-win for a pathway to legitimate windows 10 Wink

Citronick, a few weeks ago you recommended to mine CHC. It was about 0.70$. Right now is half, at about 0.34$.
What's your suggestion? Does this coin have a future? I should go to 1000 coins and start a masternode?

Regards,
John

The masternode feature is quite good and its also cheap to own a CHC masternode.

However, CHC I think is a long term hold since this coin is still being resurrected with comeback of the original devs.

Guys I am not a financial advisor or expert in crypto currency -  I use a simple strategy below.

I invest in certain coins that i want to hold for long term - example NEO and others.

The short term ones are acquired by mining - and I use the proceeds from mining to buy more shares of the coins i want to  hold long term.

Shared this on how to spot new hot coins  https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/m.20717397

CHC was one of the new hot coins back then and I mined a big amount in the early days using 22 x 1080tis.

I have sold most of CHC to buy more NEO but I kept about 1k CHC for long term.

Now I am mining SIGT, XVG and BTS.... for profits to buy more NEO.

Again I am not a financial advisor of any sort -- I use the 1080tis to mine for profits, and as one of my funding streams into my long term coins portfolio (1 year hold).

Good luck and mine on!

Hey philipma1957, I always read your topics and I really like and follow a lot of things you said until now, and I want to thank you because I'm in profit
I have a small rig ( 2GTX 1070 and a 1060), I'm just looking to buy to 4th card to complete my rig

You are in the cryptos for a long time and my doubt is: Every end of the year (Nov Dec), is it true that people capitalize the money, in fiat currency and the market goes down for a month o two, because the holidays etc?
I'm trying to make a plan here
My rig is small but I'm investing some money directly to the coins too

Thank you

Very General rules below

USA people like myself  tend to sell off in Jan not Nov or Dec.

If I sell 10,000 in coin  for a 8,000 profit in Nov. or Dec.  2017

When I file for taxes in April 2018  I will owe tax on the 8000 and have to pay it no later then April 2018

If sell 10,000 in coin  for 8,000 in Jan 2018  When I file for taxes in April 2018  I am filing for the year 2017

Since I sold the coin in Jan 2018  I do have to pay by the time  I file in  April 2019

So USA guys sell off in January  Not Nov or Dec.

Ah ok, this is new to me, about the taxes in USA
It was clarifying, thank you again

You are welcome.  Many times  you see stock market pumps in the usa in NOV and DEC  with a JAN sell off.

The first  super BTC pump  was in  sep 2013 to dec 2013  it was  90 to 1100    and we slumped In Jan  but that slump lasted a long time.

Okay back to new build this piece came today.

https://flash.newegg.com/product/9SIA5YV5JB7967

I opened it and  it has 3  slots  2x 16 pcie  1x 16 pcie

so it can run  3  gpus with ease.

Today is my 31st wedding anniversary  so I will not be posting much today.

Phil - your ebay Windows licenses cheaper than this below?

OEM version of Windows 10 professional for $25:
http://www.kinguin.net/r/Win10ProOEM

I am still getting free licensed W10.

Install 7;  Activate, Update all present system updates to sp1 and a little beyond.

take original W10 ISO on USB and run setup in win7;  choose upgrade.

when win10 finishes,  it is automatically activated.

I have set up about 15 systems in the last few months with this exact process.

FYI:
1) if you use a finnicky "activator" such as "autokms", it will fail somewhere along the line; possibly after it talks to the internet the first time.  A few people have found this out for me.

2) If you use the wrong version of windows 7 (one of those auto-activating hack install ISO's, the wrong version of 7 Ultimate (regkey), or something along those lines);  It will fail activation once online.

I found both of these out from errors others were having with my process.

I have personally confirmed it to work by using the 7 ultimate trial; an OEM licensing/activating tool (for dell, Acer, Compaq, Etc), and the same process above.  Worked like a champ.  I do this on OEM machines like thinkpads because it's their utility for licensing/activating Win7 XD.

if you get your hands on win10 ltsb it will never update.  It will still get security patches, but no updates to knock out the activator.
