'The right to privacy matters'

Should I feel bad that I just use a screwdriver between the two leads to turn my rigs on? Lol you guys with your fancy switches!
Nope! This is what I do! Crawling between racks and shelves to blindly short a couple pins to get the damn computers to turn back on! Good times. I shall remember these things forever.

I am just too fucking old  for that. Grin

But I know I would have been doing it back in the day.

If you can access the spot eay and your eyes are good enough to see more power to you.

I don't have easy access.
My eyes are not that good.
The switches are cheap enough.

I got a box with 100 pieces on that on/off single button from AliExpress for 20 bucks with free shipping to SGD.

I prefer to connect the "powerful" rigs to SRR and TV with VNC as backup, because I am so lazy to walk 2 flights of stairs to where all the rigs are - noisy, hot and bombarded with electro-magnetic whatever...

good deal on the amd ryzen 1800x

469.99

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-AMD-RYZEN-7-1800X-8-Core-3-6-GHz-Socket-AM4-YD180XBCAEWOF-Desktop-Processor/272599572981?

used code p10college

dropped price 47 bucks.

8% ebucks  today  dropped 37.60 more

so 469.99 - 47 =  422.99 - 37.60 =  385.39  this is cheap for that item  it is about 459 at newegg and amazon

make sure you can get both coupons  P10College stacked with  8% ebucks.

I will sit on this cpu for just a bit while looking for a good mobo

Phil - whats a good mobo for the 1800? Prefer with onboard on/off buttons. Thanks

I am clueless  (last amd build was in 2007)   but i grabbed this one

It has built in wifi too nice! I guess, need to wait for your review first.
The last AMD system I DIYed was an Athlon K something and OCed to the max.

It does not have an on off switch.
I may go water cooled with this one.

AMD card for ETH, Nvidia card for ETH.

Sometimes other coin will gain more, but ETH always back to his throne.

Yeah man...you tell everyone...of wait

Eth is way down the list for Nvidia on the 1080 ti

You don't buy the 1080ti if you want to mine ETH, you buy AMD RX 470/480/570/580 or GTX 1060 cards for THAT.

GTX 1070 is also a good ETH miner, but now that AMD RX card pricing is starting to drop back down and availability is improving the GTX 1070 is no longer effective on a $/hash basis for ETH mining.

This is 100% correct, other then the 1060 3GB I don't personally consider Eth for any Nvidia GPUs right now. We're actually not even mining Eth on AMD right now with our little farm. The power bill is abit nicer to bear without anymore dual mining as well.

I think the new DAG in a couple of hours might take care of that "fact".

yup .... every dag is getting more and more painful even for my 6ghs farm....

... the ice-age timebomb is painful, I dont think I can bear till 1st Nov even with reward halving - either way miners are screwed

my only consolation is we have vaulted all mined ETH since January -- hope it would be worth higher when it reaches POS.
I thought there would be a block reward halving from today onwards. I must've misunderstood... -.-

Looks like the truth is somewhere in the middle...

For the last 2+ years, the block reward has been 5 ETH every block mined every 15 seconds (on average).  I checked whattomine.com, and it looks like the current block reward (BW) value is 4.85.  I think they are slowly reducing the block reward downward periodically to  3 ETH per block mined.  Once ETH forks to 'metropolis' this September, the reward will be 3, likely, until it forks again to 'serenity'.  Once 'serenity' is released, ETH will be fully POS.

So my best guess/understanding is that we can expect a gradual decrease in block reward until we hit 3 ETH per block.

If it turns out I'm wrong, I'll delete this post.

I'd be inclined to go with something ASRock, but I've not actually aquired any Ryzen gear to date - and given the ongoing question marks about how well Windows 7 is going to support Ryzen, I'm not strongly inclined to do so right now.

I DID price out a potential Ryzen 1200 based build to try to replace my current "go-to" AM3+ based platform, but it ended up being too expen$ive for what I needed to do.

I refuse to have anything to do with Windows 10 ever again - it's been too much of a nightmare on the one GAMING machine I run it on.

Phil talked about xmr a week or two ago in here ... price shoots up. Only if I would have listened

All my mobos are mining xmr

A few dollars extra each day.

No lol... you should be thanking ME for that price hike! ;-)  I sold 10 of the 40 XMR i've been holding since mining them in Dec/Jan the night before the increase.  I was thinking at $55, they probably would't go much higher for a while, but sure enough... next day it eclipsed $80.  This is not the first time something like this has happened, so next time anyone wants a coin to bust out, just ask me to sell some of my holdings lol.

I eard the DAG problem was claymore only related.
Maybe another miner software could help ?
Before we get new linux drivers... (maybe never)

The main issue with VEGA is that I can't do anything about voltage.
This is grayed in Afterburner.

You can use the wattman tool that comes with the new beta mining driver to alter Vega things that are greyed out in Afterburner.  You will have to wait for an updated version of Afterburner, I suppose.

Quote
I was thinking to set voltage in claymore, but I don't know the stock one. It doesn't appear in AB, and even gpu-z doesn't show it.
I don't know if this is because of Beta drivers or not.
If you have ideas, I can try !

HWInfo can tell you the stock voltages.

Beta driver offer good hashrate but is a little complicated to use.
I had trouble with wattman , so I prefered to install driver without "amd settings/wattman".
I will check with HWinfo, but little hope since GPU-z did not do the job..
