Has anyone had any luck mining with Windows 8? Wondering if it will run 8 gpu.

https://www.nicehash.com/index.jsp?p=news&id=155

But I'm asking myself which windows 8 it is ?
is professionnal enough ? or do we need the rare enterprise edition ?

what about SMos, would it handle the 8 GPUs on that MB ?

Given the totally unusable so-called "user interface" on 8, you can't PAY me to try to use that turkey piece of junk in a mining machine ever again.
One attempt, and never got past the damned default so-called UI in 6 hours of TRYING was more than enough.
It took me less than an hour on that SAME machine (that came preinstalled with 8 and SUPPOSEDLY already had miner software installed) to blow 8 off it, install LINUX, install dependencies, compile and install and configure mining software, and get the machine hashing.

It says a lot about 8 that it looks like Microsoft is going to support it for a SHORTER total period of time than they offered support for ME or Vista (both of which got outlived by YEARS by previous Windows versions).

When even Microsoft concedes an OS version is junk......you KNOW it's got to be horrible!

Thoughts on ver6 vs ver7 risers??

Version 6 uses pcie for power

Version 7 uses Sata for power.

I only use version 6

Am mining Skein with 1 each 1080ti, 1080, and 980ti.

Alexis miner:

ccminerAlexis78.exe -r 0 -a skein -o stratum+tcp://skein.mine.zpool.ca:4933 -u 1CHNWD6KFsVgfGf3jEKLx5N3MJCp1oGRon -p c=BTC -i 25

got home from work at 3:30 pm and found the miner had shut down around 6 am.

odd...

First off, you should try this to see if anything changes:

Code:
ccminerAlexis78.exe -i 25 -a skein -o stratum+tcp://skein.mine.zpool.ca:4933 -u 1CHNWD6KFsVgfGf3jEKLx5N3MJCp1oGRon -p c=BTC,skein,stats

I know its a minor change, but may have something to do with it.

Made those changes on the 980 ti on seperate rig, but am thinking it was the nicehash cpu miner using too many resources. Shut it down and no problems yet

Coins got over 2500

sold .4 for 999 after fees.

Still wondering  how high before a crash?

Sold at:

2500
1900
1650
1500

I could have been more patient.

 Still  lots of profit taken.

What is amazing to me is that most exchanges are showing "sold out" notices and buying BTC by cash and credit card are all time high, even Coinbase is overwhelmed (well at least in my part of the world).

Maybe they will offer me a nice premium to sell my BTC to them...

This week is the best week of my group's mining operations since 2 over years ago... to celebrate, we just ordered 3 x Zotac 1070 Mini for the Gaming M5 Z170 mobo to be mining along side with the 3 x Auros 1080Ti on also a Gaming M5.

The NVIDIA farm is slowly coming to reality -- I never thought NVIDIA mining could be this exciting esp with fullzero's Linux miner and the necessary evil OS.... WIN10.

Anyone else having problems with zpool returning invalid job ID and not mining? had 6 hours straight of that while sleeping.   Huh

What algo?

What GPU?

What miner app version?

post your batch file as a code snippet and ill take a peek given all the info Wink

Thanks all for the info on the PSU's.
Those little Pico's are awesome.Take up much less room and generate less heat than an ATX. I found a couple 160w models on Ebay. The 2400w server PSU's should arrive next week so I can start my first rig build.

Thanks guys for your help

@64dimensions
Onboard display adapter is disabled on bios
+ I made a test with SMos instead of Win10 and all GPUs were recognisez. So it is a windows issue I think

@Aries
+1 for what ? you have a similar issue ??

Another RIG built on a similar small SSD 60gb is working fine with 7 GPUs , so I don't think it is a SSD size issue.
I'm open to any suggestions.

-----------------------

Does anyone have a solution to the first GPU1 not working?
I have swapped out GPUs, but GPU1 never works.  I have reduced to 5 GPUs, 4GPUs...but still GPU1 does not start.  I have moved the emulator...no change.

Any Solutions/Experiences?

Maybe we have a defective MB ?

But why did it work for me with SMos in that case ...
I might stick to SMos with that RIG if I don't find a solution in WIN10

Can someone share hashrate of RX 480 (with Jukebox ETH mod 29.3mh -low power) for Skein?

....

it should have a power on setting in bios  which simply fires up the mobo when the psu turns on.

I have all my GPU rigs in my 2nd farm with server PSU and pico supplied by yslyung.
During setup of rig mobo, just enable powerstate to ON after power down.
There is also a on/off switch on the breakout board itself.
This 2400w would be a really nice PSU because you can have more GPUs and also dual mine without having to worry about stressing the PSU
The PSU I use is 1200w 94% Platinums and run ETH only at 1050w and ZEC just under 1000w -- 6 x RX470 OC 1169/1900/powerstage 0 on smOS
[/quote]

yslyung  sent me

wires
pico
breakout board

all good kit.

I am using it to power an r4  as my real life world is a bit messy

but I will be running a second setup soon and use his gear to run it with a thread.

Guys can i run two six card rigs off this power supply if I also use a small pc power supply for each mobo/cpu?

If so, how would I start them up?
Turn on server PSU then turn on pc PSU's then push power button on Mobo's?

That 2400w should power all your GPUs and pico solution to power your mobo, cpu etc.
This pico solution should connect to the 2400w PSU too.
I dont think this is a case of getting 2 x PSUs to be activated at same time.
Correct if I am wrong.

you are correct.
