Gambling addiction has led to a lot of failed marriages. When gambling addicts spend more than they should on gambling it might affect the family's finances negatively and the other spouse might become offended. When a spouse is subjecting the entire family to lack and want because of uncontrollable gambling habits, this behaviour might not be tolerated for too long. This can cause disagreement and in some extreme cases, it could lead to divorce.
People suffering from gambling disorders might suffer from social stigma. The community might see them as good for nothing because they don't have control over gambling. Such stigma can lead to denying them business, employment or even political opportunities.
Gambling addiction could also make an individual engage in criminal activities. When these addicts don't have money to satisfy their gambling urges, they can engage in illegal activities to raise funds for gambling.
