Today the first leg of the relegation from the 3rd into the 2nd Bundesliga took place between Kaiserslautern (from the 3rd league) and Dresden (2nd league). The game ended without goals 0-0. Kaiserslautern had more chances but was unable to score a goal. Dresden disappointed in the last months and wasn't able to win a single game in the 2nd half of the season. They will have to win the 2nd leg (on Tuesday) if they want to stay in the 2nd Bundesliga.

The 2nd game will surely determine who's going to stay or not, right now notable players for the FC Kaiserslautern like Terrence Boyd, and Philipp Hercher are at risk of getting suspended, for having 4 yellow cards while in Dresden's case they have many injuries, so they are not in their 100% for even though they have their main players with them, I totally missed their first game but will make a pick on the 2nd game for sure on what may happen with the game,
Here are the odds for the 2nd leg:
Dresden vs Kaiserslautern 2.1/3.25/3.6
Dresden is the favorite, but not by a huge margin, so anything is possible basically.

Bookmakers don't expect many goals, odds for >2.5 goals are at 2.15
I am afraid the 2nd leg will just be as bad as the first one. I guess the best we could hope for is any goal at the beginning of the game to force the team which is behind to open up the game. If I had to make a bet I would probably go for "Dresden doesn't win" (draw or Kaiserlautern wins) which pays 1.71, which seems not too bad. I do expect Dresden to remain in the 2nd league, but as the game is more or less open, many things can happen.

I see it a little differently. Hamburger SV did not play the way I have expected. They were more nervous than I thought. Hertha took advantage of some of Hamburg mistakes, but they did not score a goal as a result. But the Hamburg goal was really great. But they should have invested more and scored a second goal. On Monday they have to show more initiative.

Well, I think Hamberger SV just played the safest they can possibly get, after all this is a 1st division team in the Bundesliga, there is no room for mistakes and Hertha just learned that the hard way, and Hamburger SV even though they are nervous in the 1st game, I think that they will do a good job the next game because they are used to Hertha from the 1st game, and right now I think the injuries of Hertha have added to their mistakes, and the way Stevan Jovetic is playing is really not in perfect shape, because of the issue of having 4 yellow cards

This was such a dead match between these two teams. Honestly expected a lot more from these two teams in attack but they just focused on defence and there was any chances of goals in tonights match. Really dissapointing match honestly hopefully the rematch is better

@Joca97 I agree with you usually when there’s so much at stake you expect the teams to give it all, but this match lacked energy and both teams will need to introspect as to where they went wrong. Furthermore I too am expecting the rematch to be way better, because I’m sure that both the teams would have learnt their lesson and hopefully we will see more goals being scored in the rematch.

as much as i would like to see the 'red devils' with the great stadium and fans back in the 2. bundesliga, i think dynamo dresden will win their home game on tuesday by a close score
you could see yesterday in the second half that the third division club can't keep up the tempo for the entire 90 minutes...
and on the other hand, the dynamo fans in their own stadium can also push the club forward very strongly...

The match has ended with a narrow advantage of Hamburger SV.
this is a signal for them because with this win they have already set half their foot in the premier league next season.
even though this is still not certain but of course for the 2nd leg, especially they will play at home, it is clear that their confidence is increasing

I watched the game and i have to say that the Hamburger SV was definitely the deserved winner today as they did more for the game overall. I was surprised that Hamburg was playing today just like in all the other games of this season in the second Bundesliga, they tried to control the game and to be active, while Hertha BSC was only reacting for the most part of the game. The lack of confidence that has built up over the course of the season was clearly visible today. Also i have to agree with you, that the advantage for the HSV is only narrow. I mean in the end they are in front with only 1 goal at the moment so everything is still possible in the second leg.

relegation 2022 hertha bsc berlin vs. hamburger sv . halftime and...0:0
the first 45 minutes are over. hamburg is the better team so far . but no goals have been scored yet .
now i'm curious about the second 45 or 48 or 51 minutes . that's going to be pretty damn exciting.

^ I actually think in spite of being an away match for Hamburger they might have a better chance of winning because they have been playing well in the 2nd Bundesliga and Hertha has not played well in the Bundesliga, they are in a downward spiral. I think it is going to be tough for them to come out of that situation and win against Hamburger. and even though it will be a home match for Hertha, the support is going to be in favor of Hamburger.
I think this is a misconception. The 16th in the Bundesliga always had a worse season than the 3rd in the 2nd Bundesliga. Despite that the team from the Bundesliga was able to win the relegation matches in 10 out of 13 years.
What makes this year special is that we also see teams that played already multiple times in the relegation before, with Hertha losing and Hamburg winning twice, going against the first statistic Wink

It's almost halftime now and we are yet to see a goal, it's still 0-0. A result like that would benefit Hamburg as they play the 2nd leg at home.

^ Hamburger is playing really well in the relegation playoffs against Hertha. The score is 1-0 in favor of Hamburger. If we actually look at how both teams are playing I think we will see that Hamburger seems to be superior compared to their opponent. And I think we are seeing this type of performance from Hertha because they are going through a bad time and honestly I believe it will be hard for them to come out of it.

The relegation begins tonight at 20:30. First in Berlin. There will probably be more fans from Hamburger SV than expected. Due to incorrect communication from Hertha, more fans from Hamburger SV have been able to buy tickets than expected. Many Hertha fans thought that their season ticket was automatically valid for the relegation match. But this is not the case and the fans from Hamburger SV have therefore already bought tickets in the regular sale before this question was clarified.

^ I think this match is going to be an interesting one, I cannot decide which team is performing better because there is obviously a lot of difference between playing in the Bundesliga and the second Bundesliga.

Hertha did manage to win 9 matches in the Bundesliga. I am not saying that is a good performance from them but I think it is good enough compared to what Hamburger have done in the second Bundesliga. And obviously, this opinion of mine might not be popular among the fans of Hamburger.
but in this case maybe in terms of strength they are actually quite balanced in my opinion. The problem is whether Hertha's confidence will start to rise considering their opponents are only from Bundesliga 2 or do they still tend to play as usual by just defending and continuing to defend because every line from them is not playing well.
For Hamburg themselves it is certain they will play it out now considering this will be an opportunity for them to move up to a higher league

I also think that Hamburg has a better chance than Hertha. Hamburg is very bad when the other team takes the initiative and attacks the ball early. But Hertha don't play like that.
When it comes to terms of statistics, they are the worst team. On average, they take the ball away from the opponent in his half 8.09 times per game.
Hamburg plays a lot through its outfield players, Hertha is weak in defensive there.
Only after free kicks Hertha is good. But is that enough?
Hm what I originally meant was that I think Hertha has a bigger chance than Hamburg  Cheesy
Looking at the statistics, the Bundesliga team won the relegation match 10 out of 13 times, only 3 times the team from the 2nd league was able to advance into the Bundesliga.
Ok, Hamburg did win these matches 2 times (as Bundesliga team), and Hertha managed to lose (as a Bundesliga team!) in 2012, but the statistics is on the side of the Bundesliga team, meaning Hertha should have a good chance.

You might be right about their playstyles, but there is still a class difference. Hertha is the favorite, the question is just: by how much?

Bookmakers see quite some potential in Hamburg, I would have thought that Hertha is the favorite in this duel by a larger margin. In the past most of the time the relegation games were won by the Bundesliga team. I also think that Hertha has an edge in this fight. Sure Hamburg is looking at a pretty successful season, but there is still a class difference between them.

I just saw the odds for the first leg Hertha vs Hamburg: 2.3 / 3.6 / 3.0

Odds for the winner of both legs are:

Hamburg 2.05

1xBit recovered their reputation
why the hell do the relegation games only start at 8:30 pm in the evening.
why not at 7 pm? if you want to see such a game live you are not home until the next morning.
and then on mondays? why not tuesday and saturday a week later. i think the TV money is probably responsible for that.
but it has been like this for the last few years

tickets can still be bought on eventim
https://www.eventim.de/event/hertha-bsc-bundesliga-saison-202122-olympiastadion-berlin-15298022/

The matches are going to start at the time when it is going to be the most profitable for everybody. And they will certainly not think about the people who are going to watch the match on TV. They are going to think about the people who come to the stadium. but I do think that timing is a little neither here nor there. TV money is also probably responsible. otherwise, I don't see why the time is like that.
