They was in front with 1 goal when i was looking at the live ticker and they played at home against Leibzig.
About the competition with Bayern i agree but there are other and more Teams that will be getting into this race also.

There is no way we can expect the same performance as last season’s performance from Leverkusen team, they didn’t sign any player to give the squad more strength and depth, they only rely their previous players which will be very hard for the team to achieve the great success they attended last season, and they will be playing in the Champions League and other domestic competitions; they need squad depth to achieve success this season. Nevertheless, they can still do well but the probability is low because Bayern Munich, Dortmond, and other teams have learn from their mistakes and will surely make the competition more tough this time.

If from me it is not surprising at all considering that there will be a time when an undefeated team will start to have difficulty maintaining its record. Here Leverkusen must end it all since last season and I think they are also very satisfied with what they have achieved. It is good to kill off the game as early as possible and not depending on the last minute miracle as usual because it's not sustainable. Imagine having more than 25 shots and still lost the game! Leverkusen need to work on their finishing.

Remember too that this is only one game. One game cannot define a season. Last season Leverkusen had an amazing run. They raise a great standard, and expectations are sky high. Any squad can find that kind of strain taxing. Still, lets not overlook these men; they are champions for a reason. They know how to win; they have tenacity; they have talent.

Though it might sting a little, this defeat might also be the thing they need. Remind them that their laurels are insufficient for relaxation. It's simple an answer to find about your doubt, Bayer Leverkusen don't seem to have that might and magic anymore to retain their bundlesliga championship position. Unlike last season they have started this season's with a poor campaign, their last game before Leipzig was a struggle which they narrowly managed to get full three point at added time.

From the moment Leverkusen manager Alonso expresses his unwillingness to sign any player in the summer transfer I knew they were going to have a hard time finding success this season. Their style and strategy which they used in Winning matches previously has been studied and understood by their opponent coaches so I think Alonso has to go back to the drawing board to restrategize else they won't make it far even in the champions league competition.

Leverkusen's loss to Leipzig doesn't mean they won't compete for the league this season, its just the second league match of the season, there are still 35 matches to play.

If you are talking about dominance in the game, then remember the season that preceded the one in which Bayer became champions, the one when they were at the bottom of the table for a long time, simply because they could not score, although they played very well. Leipzig is a strong team, there is no doubt about it, but Bayer should have played better at home as champions, maybe one defeat is not a death sentence, but now in case of Bayern winning they will be in the role of catch-up, and for Bayern this can be an additional incentive.

This season I still consider Bayer Leverkusen as a strong candidate for the title but the path will be different, meaning they will not be able to run smoothly like last season.
