Rand Paul's personality predicament\

Sen. Rand Paul articulated a real stunner in what appeared to be prepared remarks in the Senate. He said "Some of them [people in Washington], I think, secretly want there to be an attack on the United States so they can blame it on me.

Not doing himself any favors with statements like this. I can't possibly see how he thought that would be a good thing to say out loud.
He, after the fact, walked it back a little saying he was using hyperbole when making that statement. But that was just his public position and not his personal feeling which is what he articulated in the Senate. These war mongering/pro-surveillance state folks have been lying about this bulk data collection saying how great it is in helping stop terrorism when in reality, it's just brazen lies to scare people into allowing them to spy at will w/ no limits. The FBI and some group set up by the Obama administration said point blank that this data collection has done nothing to make us safer. The point is, many times in the past these neocon types have said terrorist attacks will come if we don't grow the state's power over us and or fight more and more overseas which subtly means they would welcome more attacks to further their statist goals and keep the MIC rolling in profits. ISIS was armed and offered plenty of territory to expand and train by first destabilizing the middle east and this kind of strategy has repeatedly come out of the neocon agenda. Rand only walked it back because it is easy for the media to demagogue the comment.

Dispensing for a moment the megalomania of Mr. Paul's perceived centrality to others' perception of the war on terror, does he really believe that some people want a terrorist attack to prove him personally wrong on his opposition to NSA's collection of bulk data and the Patriot Act?

The irresponsible attribution of motives is the latest in a long line of foolish positions and foolish inconsistencies in Senator Paul's rhetorical quiver. As I have written on these pages, not all changes of heart are suspect in politicians. Some positional change merely reflects that situations change. I would argue that even for many politicians' original votes and subsequent reversals on the invasion of Iraq, including Hillary Clinton's.

Vatz is a neoconservative clown who has dual loyalty between the U.S. and Israel. He railed against Ron Paul and Pat Buchanan when he was a guest on Ehrlich's radio show because they wouldn't pander and grovel to Israel the way the other politicians did.
Indeed, the inconsistency gotcha attacks on some political leaders leads one to the famous dictum of Ralph Waldo Emerson that "a foolish consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds, adored by little statesmen and philosophers and divines." Rand Paul gives me the opportunity to point out that indulging inconsistency has its limits.

In a 2011 interview with ABC News, Senator Paul stated, "I think [Israel is] an important ally, but I also think that their per capita income is greater than probably three-fourths of the rest of the world. Should we be giving free money or welfare to a wealthy nation? I don't think so."

Rand Paul may not be sexist, but he's not fit to be president, says Richard Vatz.

Being Moody: Rand Paul strikes out while Obama cheers

Not unlike Capitol Hill, Republican lawmakers compete against Democrats.Their staffers cheer in separate sections. And the playing field is paid for mostly by lobbyists, which in years past have included the Middle Eastern nation of Qatar, Pfizer, the Koch brothers and Buffalo Wild Wings. (The only true bipartisan area of the stadium is the bar section in centerfield, where the blues and the reds drink away their misgivings about bipartisan mingling.) All proceeds from the game go to charity.

It has been a tough few years for the Republican team. Before Thursday's game, the GOP had lost six straight years, suffering absolute slaughters of 22-0 two years ago and 15-6 last year.

The Democrats' not-so-secret weapon is their pitcher, Louisiana Democratic Rep. Cedric Richmond, a young lawmaker who played college ball and has been known to hurl 80-mile-an-hour heat from the mound.

This year, Richmond's pitches were slower due to a recent surgery, but Republicans fared no better. Democrats racked up their seventh straight victory, winning 5-2.

In the middle of this year's game, President Barack Obama paid an unexpected visit. His entrance halted the game for several minutes before play resumed and he watched from the Democrats' dugout.

Rand Paul mocks Hillary during campaign speech

Hillary Clinton's speech re-announcing her Democratic bid for the presidency brought out the GOP criticism Saturday — and prompted some Twitter snarking by Republican presidential candidate Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky.
"There is still time to get your own Hillary Hard Drive. If you're ready for #LibertyNotHillary, get yours here," Paul tweeted, linking to a fake hard drive dubbed "Hillary's Hard Drive" sold by his presidential campaign — a reference to Hillary's use of a personal email account and hard drive during her time as head of the State Department.

Jeb Bush used his new campaign video to jab Hillary's limited media availability, a move that has frustrated news agencies and led to a regular New York Times feature on the "questions we would have asked Mrs. Clinton had we had the opportunity."

"We're probably around 800 to 900 questions asked and hopefully answered," Jeb said in the video.

The Republican National Committee issued a more direct response to Hillary's speech, saying it was "chock full of hypocritical attacks, partisan rhetoric and ideas from the past that have led to a sluggish economy leaving too many Americans behind."

"Next year, Americans will reject the failed policies of the past and elect a Republican president," said Republican National Committee spokeswoman Allison Moore.

Chris Christie takes a veiled swipe at Rand Paul over Patriot Act

In an apparent swipe at Sen. Rand Paul, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie on Friday blasted politicians who have tried to raise money off of their opposition to the Patriot Act – going as far as calling such actions  a “disgrace.”

During his opening remarks at a town hall meeting in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Christie told the crowd that the president’s No. 1 priority is to protect Americans. “And yet, you’ve got folks—some of them running for president—who stood on the floor of the United States Senate and weakened our country and then sent out videos of it to try and raise money.”

“They bragged about how much money they raised … To me, that’s a disgrace,” added the governor, who is expected to announce whether he will officially run for president in the next few weeks. Christie has argued for the re-authorization of the Patriot Act, arguing it’s an important tool to combat terrorism.

RAND PAUL: ‘I MAY BE THE MOST UNPOPULAR PERSON IN WASHINGTON RIGHT NOW’

On Thursday’s “Kennedy” on the Fox Business Network, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY), a candidate for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination, defended his positions on national security and foreign policy and pointed out that in his view it is paying dividends for him politically.

Paul declared some who oppose his point of view to be “old moss-covered GOP.”

“I think there’s a lot of people out there who aren’t represented by the old moss-covered GOP,” he said. “I think the new GOP does have a foundation outside of the Beltway. Even on foreign policy, if you poll the issue – should we be more involved in the Middle East or less involved. Less involved polls 40-45 percent, maybe 50 percent in most of the early primaries.”

The junior Kentucky Republican senator went on to declare his stand against the National Security Agency and its bulk data collection efforts to be a “significant accomplishment,” but with the cost of his popularity in Washington, D.C.

“Actually I think a significant accomplishment was a rebuke to the president,” Paul said. “To say to the president, ‘it is illegal to collect our records, it’s illegal to collect them and store them in Utah. The court has told you so and now Congress has told you so.’ I was with the part of the bill that eliminated the bulk collection. I just didn’t want send bulk collection over to the phone companies. So, I still believe that the Fourth Amendment says that records can only be collected with individualized suspicion. Interestingly, that’s a very unpopular position in Washington. I may well be the most unpopular person in Washington right now. But if you get outside the Beltway, it’s very popular. I’m finding as travel in Iowa and New Hampshire, South Carolina — crowds are coming by the hundreds and they all want to be left alone. Part of this new GOP coalition are called the ‘leave me alone coalition.’ And I think it’s growing rapidly.”

Rand did piss off a lot of people (Senators and other elected officials) during and after his filibuster of the Patriot Act despite him doing the right thing and looking out for all of us here and abroad. Rand is doing things on the foreign policy front for everyone that loves liberty across the world and for personal liberties here at home for all that value their privacy, so I think we should all be the wind at his back. If you hate the establishment and elite across the world and particularly in the US, you must think and back Rand Paul for President of the USA in your own way of support. All the others are dead set, by their insider backings, to put you in your place once and for all. I started this thread to get all of the great Bitcoin loving folks to help liberty in the USA, which then could  filter throughout the rest of the world by the USA not ramming its business down all of your throats. Let's rally behind Rand!

Rand Paul: Snowden triggered surveillance reforms
Presidential candidate appeared at San Diego GOP dinner

Sen. Rand Paul said Saturday that former national security contractor Edward Snowden changed the political climate and helped open doors to government surveillance reform.

The GOP presidential candidate stopped short of saying whether Snowden should be prosecuted for leaking documents about secret government mass surveillance programs.

“I don’t think that’s really up to me. I think he did break the law and I think that we can’t have people making their own mind up to reveal secrets,” the Kentucky senator said in an interview at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront hotel. Later, he addressed more than 700 people at the Republican Party of San Diego County’s annual Lincoln Reagan Dinner.

Paul added that Director of National Security James Clapper should also face scrutiny. Clapper misled Congress when he told members that the government wasn’t collecting bulk phone records, when it was, Paul said.

“You can’t have either one,” he said of the acts by Snowden and Clapper. “I’ve kind of flippantly said that they should share the same cell.”

There was some buzz months ago (at Ronpaulforums.com) that she didn't want Rand to run.
Glad to see she is getting out and staying positive.  Smiley
Glad you're a denizen of RPF and have seen how far Kelley has come. She has really embraced the campaign trail at this point despite her earlier trepidations which is great for all of us since we need her husband to fight for liberty. I'm so glad that Ron paved the way and Rand took the support and the initiative to gain his Senate seat to do what he's doing now. Some don't believe in divine intervention but along the way, I think something similar has happened here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0iTYU7NDwUE
Pretty good reporting on Rand and they talk about his stances on being the only one to oppose the Patriot Act as well as his unique stances on drug policy and civil rights.

"Senator Rand Paul is visiting California this weekend to spread his message of liberty and says “We’ll look for votes out here in California. We look to win.” Paul talked with KCAL9 mainly about his criminal justice reform and how California has seen some success thanks to Proposition 47 which changed some drug charges to misdemeanors. Paul also says the War on Drugs must be fixed because he says it’s contributing to the impression that law enforcement across the country has a racial bias. Paul was visiting Orange County for the second time during his presidential campaign...."

His second visit already, nice. This is a good video, because the local TV was factual and fair.

Totally, it's easy to to brush off these local tv news broadcasts as they aren't national but when you really think about the whole of LA's news viewing audience seeing such a decent representation of Rand, it really helps out w/ that local perspective of him that people yearning to hear what's going on in LA are seeing of him. That is powerful.

Kelley Paul shakes off negativity

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aQMaMzF6lg

MANCHESTER, N.H. — Kelley Paul shrugged off the recent attacks on her husband from fellow Republicans — including John McCain, who called him “the worst candidate” — as just the “contact sport” of politics and vowed to reveal “another dimension” to Rand Paul as she hit the presidential campaign trail here for the first time yesterday.

“At this point, I really do say it’s politics ... and politics is a contact sport,” Kelley Paul told the Herald in an exclusive interview. “It’s remarkable how thick your skin gets after awhile ... I don’t pay that much attention to the political attacks. Anything personal does bother me more, obviously, because you feel like your reputation ... is being attacked.”

Paul, campaigning by herself in New Hampshire through today, did admit to being apprehensive about the approaching media scrutiny over all aspects of her and husband’s life. The New York Times on Friday, for example, detailed the driving record of Marco Rubio’s wife, Jeanette.

“I don’t want to comment on anybody else’s particular situation, but that is exactly one of the things that every person in politics really has to look at, is that you live under a microscope and it can be intimidating, difficult, and you go into it with trepidation, for sure,” she said.

Politico: Rand Paul doesn’t run with the herd
At GOP cattle calls and candidate forums, Paul is often notably absent.

It’s practically a campaign-trail cliché: An Iowa interest group or deep-pocketed donor demands an audience of presidential contenders, and the candidates dutifully answer the call, flocking to assorted pig roasts or single-issue summits to test their messages and shake hands with potential supporters.

But not Rand Paul.

The Kentucky Republican was noticeably absent from last week’s so-called Roast and Ride, a rollicking get-together hosted by Paul’s colleague, Sen. Joni Ernst, in Iowa. He turned down an invitation to former Gov. Mitt Romney’s gathering of presidential candidates in Utah this weekend in favor of a swing through Southern California. He skipped last month’s Southern Republican Leadership Conference in Oklahoma City (and his PATRIOT Act filibuster kept several other senators from attending as well). Earlier this year, he also took a pass on a prominent Iowa agriculture summit and a gathering of White House wannabes hosted by Iowa Rep. Steve King.

While Paul’s rivals for the Republican nomination have ricocheted from one high-profile Iowa gathering to the next, Paul’s been mounting a quieter series of solo events, skipping the impersonal cattle calls to burnish his image as a man untethered from conventional campaigning.

[Rand Paul Opposing ObamaTrade - A Great Article To Send To Your GOP Friends!/b]

Many Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio supporters have been left stunned by the two Republican’s support of the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), also called Obamatrade, and its massive expansion of Obama’s executive authority and the authority of foreign bodies over the data of U.S. citizens. Rubio even channeled Nancy Pelosi’s comments on Obamacare with himself saying that the Obamatrade bill had to first be passed in order for us to know what is in it. Rand Paul was quick to respond by saying, “We should read legislation before we vote on it.”

Good for Paul.

Bad for 'libertarianboard' who greys out the story unless one makes a choice between 'facebook' and 'twitter' neither of which I have any interest in being a part of for a variety of reasons.  Certain of the reasons are, ironically, related to the various 'libertarian' values that I have.

Libertarians are at a natural dis-advantage in that people who are by nature less inclined to be groupies and 'team players' are more likely to be interested in their platform.  Not sure how best to deal with this problem.  Wait for the other more marshalable groups to simultaneous torpedo themselves has some disadvantages.

What gets me is the naivety of the American Public that has failed to see through the veil of bullshit that pimps out who they MUST vote for in an election. The propaganda is sickening. It seems to be a race to dumb people down before they are too smart to see the light. With tyranny running amok, unless people wake up to what is going on around them, it will be all over soon!
