On my air cooled 9x EVGA SC and SC2 1080Ti rigs I'm doing: (currently $81.07)

tdp 80% (190W)
core 100
ram 550

On my water cooled 4x MSI 1080Ti rig I'm doing: (currently $38.26)

tdp 75% (190W)
core 145
ram 600

On my water cooled 1x Zotac 1080Ti rig I'm doing: (currently $9.72)

tdp 65% (230W)
core 240
ram 650

So the brand/model of the specific 1080Ti makes a big difference on the tdp and core settings used.

EVGA least power hungry and highest factory clock

MSI fairly power hungry and middle of the road factory clock
Zotac crazy power hungry and very low factory clock (on their watercooled card unlike their AMP! Extreme)

Is water cooling a worth while investment? At what point do you say I better go water cooled with this one?

I have more then 20 water-cooled cards.

water cooled 1080 ti evga hybrid
water cooled 1080 ti msi seahawks

these do 710 easy 745 pushed

the real key is they are quiet.

I was buying these until they sold out

http://www.corsair.com/en-us/hydro-gfx-gtx-1080-ti-liquid-cooled-graphics-card

they were 805 shipped to me in NJ

If you can find them for 805 they are a good deal.

Nist5 profits are basically driven by Bulwark currently. Btw why are you guys mining Nist5 at Nicehash rather than ahashpool for example? You're just paying high fees and taking Nicehash risk and its dodgy payout policy...

Thanks! Nice bump up this NIST5 - putting my modest NVIDIA farm to work.

ZEC was doing well but NIST5 at NH better $$$.

I have 3 of those Zotac AMP Extreme - yes they are beast mode out of the box - very hard to OC or tune without crashing - but then again they are already factory tuned.

Also thinking of getting some 1080's as I am only AMD and asic mining.
Is there a big mining difference between 1080 and 1080ti?
I can get 1080 for $520 or 1080ti for $750.

at those price points the 1080  is pretty much the better deal .

And some good news the beast  is due to ship.

it will be set as windows 10  not smos it will be loaded with nvidia cards

I moved 6 of my rigs to the latest win 10 creators edition yesterday using the current ISO downloaded directly from Microsoft.  Once I had the ISO, I used the MSMG Toolkit to completely debloat it, and proceeded to install onto a SSD in my test rig with a single 1060.  I installed the latest nvidia drivers.

I then moved the SSD with the completed install, into my 1st rig (9x1080Ti).  I was pleasantly surprised that after "updating device drivers" ran for about 20 minutes, it came up and all 9 of my cards where there and no missing device drivers.  I then loaded afterburner and NHML and I was mining again.

Rinse and repeat for my other 5 rigs with no issues encountered there either.

These rigs were running nvOC before, pointing at MPH mining ZEN.  They were all doing quite well, but the guys over on [H]ardforum kept talking about how Nist5 on NH had been doing amazingly for 10+ days, so I figured I'd give it a try.

So before, my 2 9x1080Ti rigs on nvOC were getting this: (I'm using Awesome Miner to monitor my rigs)

And now that they are on NH, they are earning this:

Of course it goes up and down, but in the close to 24 hours I have been on NH, I rarely see it dip below $80 and I have seen it go over $140:

I still have several rigs mining ZEN on MPH, and the earnings there are the same as before.  I'm picking up some additional SSD's today to convert those over to NH as well (I want to keep the nvOC SSDs so that I can go back quickly if I need to).  As for licensing Win10, I just get those cheap keys from ebay.  They have been working for me so far.

I withdraw daily to my coinbase account instantly with $0 fees, so my NH exposure is minimal.

This is a problem for nvidia.

You need an update to install any recent driver packages;  which will not be pushed to you or install-able until activated....  It will fail to install the windowsupdate nvidia driver until the update is performed;  which is reliant on activation.

It was a recent hurdle I learned about when doing machine upgrades.  Couldn't install any nvidia driver until it has the OS updated to the creators update I believe.

Yeah, that is a tricky one. Fortunately, you can get the 1709 build ISO from http://windowsiso.net/windows-10-iso/windows-10-creators-update-1709-download-build-16299-15/ then just make a bootable USB or DVD and install as per usual. Then I manually d/l'ed and installed the NVIDIA driver package (sans GeForce Experience) and aside from some incredibly annoying things as a result of Win10 not being activated, it is mining away.

Simplest solution:

Install and activate 7;  do not use AutoKMS to activate....  Now update 7.  Install 10 as upgrade form CD or USB after SP1 has installed, and one more round of updates install after the SP1 portion; don't install 10 before this point.  10 will be pre-activated when finished.  Just process updates and you are off ot the races legitimately with no out of pocket expense.

Hmmm, don't you still have to pay for Win7 in this scenario?

My recent issue with win10 was with a recent download;  well, the ISO available not long ago.....  Ill see if a newer ISO is available on their website.  Most of my internet links are via cellular;  saving on update bandwidth will be a godsend.

You can easily use an OEM license as is found discarded on old laptops/desktops and whatnot.....   Or if you have access to an OEM activation tool for manufacturers/distributors....

But AutoKMS;  the kind that gets broken by a future windows update;  will not work with the 10 free upgrade;  as its a way they kept people from getting illegitimate copies of 10.

All of my Win10s are still working without any activation - no impact in mining - in fact most of them are upgraded to latest edition - the one with the lake wall paper during bootup which is the version that supports more than 8 GPUs. Is there a time limit when the "please buy license or else" popup comes out?

You mean the watermark?  Seems to be random.  Also I read they are actually cutting off the free upgrade service soon.  Lets hope it doesnt effect the current free mining though.  Tongue

all my rigs are on smos linux and nvoc linux, exception of 4 x Win10 rigs, so it will be no big deal for me however Win7 should still work with most mining apps.

Meanwhile... one of my buddies ordered some wrong boards and donated them to me.

This is a small Colorful motherboard with built-in CPU, I can use my old DDR3s too.

if I stick one of those 8xUSB riser PCI cards - I can turn this into a decent mining rig or maybe a HTPC

Guys,

The temps on the 6x zotac 1070 minis on this onda D1800 board is bordering on unacceptable for me.
Acceptable to me is all cards running equihash below 65C. The hottest card#0 ~ 68C and card#4 ~ 66C.

I already put a 9inch industrial fan(45W) blowing directly from the back. The fan is centered on the card#2 and is blowing from the back to the hot aisle/section of the room.
The hot aisle/section has a 14" industrial exhaust fan taking the air out. This creates negative pressure.
There is an open window to the outside beside/near the exhaust fan.
We stick on some insulation board/material so as to funnel outside/colder air away from the exhaust fan so that it only exhaust hot air and hopefully the colder air will circulate to the cards.

Suggestions to get the temps down would be appreciated.

I have a 8 x 1070ti with less than an inch gap in between, running cool 55-65c, with a 20" floor fan blowing air from back to front.

Point the fan to the top part of the GPUs - the heat is likely coming out from the top more than the front outtake.

OR

get a few Scythe fans to draw out the hot air from the front - I think Phil has a good example of this in last few pages (maybe in the previous thread)

here is an update on the algorithm OC/miner recommendations:

Here is the sheet opened for COMMENT:
https://goo.gl/SLjsaA

Thanks to KaydenC, Ursaursa, vapourminer,QuintLeo for taking the time to share.

Booooo for P00P135 who seems to know it all but could only share a snarky remark.

I have a zotac 1070mini lying around so I will try OC all algorithms and share.

A small comment here as I was unable to access your google drive file. Tuning is not so universal, my own efforts with old AMD cards and Cryptonight lead to different results -  maximum hashrate was strictly with maximum core. So at least you should have some notes of applicable chipsets|GPU. In my case Cayman GPU was pushed from 830 to 950 Mh core, 930 was stable but with huge power consumption and critical temperatures so I limited it to 890. Memory tuning have nearly zero effect so I stick with basic frequency. I was aware that Cryptonight is "memory intensive" so I double check my results :-) Maybe it will be a hint for non-standart GPU users to check where is your bottleneck.
