Thinking of shutting down thread.  Gpu mining is in sad shape.

Thoughts everyone?

Looks like Metroid called it.

Is this scam or real?
https://asicminer.co/shop/asicminer-equihash
I saw it somebody post it on the zcash forums:
https://forum.z.cash/t/let-s-talk-about-asic-mining/27353/1906
At first glance it seemed like a scam to me, but a few people over there say it's for real, they have sha256 too.

Before I ever get into "nitty gritty calculatoions" on what to buy, I take a quick gander here:

https://www.asicminervalue.com/opportunities

I don't think ASICMINER's sha256 rigs will ever ROI ( Break Even). That Equihash rig might - but it's way too high risk for me.

The only rigs I've bought  so far this year are 1x Baikal X10 and 1x L3+.

nice website for an idea but info is off.  the avalon  is about 1200 now. not 2000.  It needs to be updated

Asking you fine people here... I'm looking for a light Linux mining distro with the latest AMD drivers that would be flexible enough to allow me to add third party miner software. Tried HiveOS but that fell flat on its face (doesn't work when using integrated gfx - and I don't want to use any of the mining cards for the video signal for various reasons).

Any suggestions?

Problem with LINUX right now is that AMD doesn't support their integrated graphics on recent drivers at all, and current LINUX drivers from different manufacturers don't get along any more.

You CAN get an AMD integrated iGPU to run OpenCL if you're already running a discrete AMD GPU for the graphics output, but that's the best I've managed in many many hours worth of trying to make this stuff play nice together.

*IN THEORY* you should be able to do the same running Nvidia for the actual graphics but I've not gotten that to work to date, and the old Nvidia option for "no-opengl-files" stopped working 2+ years ago.

Crap.
The main reason I don't want to go with one of the PEG GPUs as main display is because they will not allow me to enter bios in their flashed condition (non-uefi GPU plugged in as primary display means no way of entering bios). Ideally I'd like to be able to run the Linux distro one day and then just unplug the USB and run from the SSD with Windows 10 just like that. Going to have to scratch that idea it seems.

At first glance it seemed like a scam to me, but a few people over there say it's for real, they have sha256 too.

only people that have zero understanding of the economics of mining will buy it.

most likely it is a losing guess if you buy it even if it is real.

It will be forked to death

Of course, I wouldn't buy it even if it was real, I was just wondering if if it's a legit company that already shipped asics or just pure scam.

DNS server block is good Smiley. Im using MDT to deploy mining images so in my reference image have all set up correctly, fast deployment via USB stick or network if you have larger farm.
Dude my day job is IT and MDT is a BITCH to manage images. Sure it can image fast once you have the image set up correctly but getting there is a PAIN. How do you manage it? Any tips?

Same for me, working on IT. Mostly working with SCCM tho, but using MDT for my miners since didnt want to put SCCM server up and running (also licence stuff). What kind of requirements you have for image/mdt task?

- So, bottom line is, with W10 Fall Creator's Update it seems like 18.3.4 drivers & CDM 11.6 is the solution.

We have been using this little tool to completely disable Windows Updates for the past ~year or so now.  They just came out with a v1.1 yesterday, I believe we have been using v1.0. --- https://www.sordum.org/9470/windows-update-blocker-v1-1/ --- I was skeptical of it at first, but it's been working flawlessly on 16 rigs (although not all of them have been running a full year yet.
Blocking all microsoft domains from your DNS server works way better.. just sayin..  Cheesy

Never thought of this, insanely useful. Thanks a lot man.

Perhaps it is, but that isn't a simple one click program that my grandma could run. Wink
Oh I figured you were talking about for farms. It's just blocked from my entire network. Don't wanna have to manually do anything to each new/reimaged W10 machine.

with 10 or more machines  it would be a lot of work your way is the easier way.
