Even most people do suggest holding and do sounds very easy but this is actually isn't really an easy thing.We cant just simply hold any coin that we do want, we should always seek out on the best project that we can able to see that can go for long term and does really have real-world benefits which will somehow assure us that it will really be good for long term holds.If you just mistakenly select the wrong coin then its not really right to blame that holding is a total bullshit.

You have chosen the wrong coins. You cannot just go all in and invest into something that you have heard off and didn't even read the plans that the developers have presented and also if you didn't make the inspection of the project security for the long-term holding.
Before the long-term holding, a lot of analyzation must be done. You should have read another people opinions.
I suspect that you have entered this project while they were still in ICO phases.
I personally invest in the coins once they have arrived on the exchanges and are being there for at least 3 months.
After that 3 months on an exchange, you can already see if the coin has the reputability to proceed to the higher values and to bring you profit in a long term.

For a beginner, HODLing will never hurt. There indeed many opportunities to short your holdings. But shorting is the game of analysis and time. You might sell at low and buy high if you miss the chance. In cryptocurrencies, it is always safer to do short term trading. But going long on large cap coins will not hurt.

For me, I would like to suggest that you must know exactly what coins or tokens would rise because I think you just have chosen the wrong coins or tokens which must hold for long term on the right time and you missed to look for the legitimate ones.

I think it depends what coin you are holding, there is also coin which if we hold then will give us big profit (like PRL, ETH and Bitcoin).

The bullshit thing depends upon the coin s you hold if you hold bullshit coins with no vision or no use cases then you will end up bullshit of holding the shit coins. DOYR before holding the coins, there is nothing wrong when holding long term as long as you can see that it performs well.

You just pick wrong coin to hodl and that is all, look at market at some coins that are going to moon really, there are some coins which has like 100x in one day so it just depends in which coin you have invested.

It also depends on the coin you are holding, the coins you said is not known even now so don't expect to get high profit just because you hold them.,try to hold known crytos like ethereum,ripple,litecoin and other known alts to get sure profit in the future.

I agree with what do other said here it is really bullshit if you are holding bullshit coins but if you are holding coins with solid business program, active dev and community and many companies patronizing it, then it is not bullshit it is a gem to holder.

The reason you don't trust it, is because you are probably down a bunch lately. Many people have done well with the hodl strategy and many people have done well without. You just have to figure out which strategy works best for you and go with it, but please don't blame the strategy. Hate the player, not the game.

Holding is not bullshit, do a proper market research and analysis, get a right alt and holding onto them is a smart thing. I'm currently holding a few alts which I trust could be 10x-20x.

It depends on the coins that you hold. There are coins, which were really pupmed, the price was high, you went into a coin, the price went down strongly. And you hold it for a whole year - it will not take off to the moon already. Chance of it is very small, near 1%.
There are coins that can shoot, but behind such coins should be great ideas and developments, as well as marketing and PR.
There are coins that will give an exact increase from the hold, but also in a long time, these are the giants entering the top 10-30. But the profitability will be lower.
Therefore, choose coins in which you are ready to invest with your brains. And do not invest the last money.
By the way, after holding, according to Murphy's laws, as soon as you sell the coin while the price is falling, the will go to the moon.
