yups we cannot be perfect all the time but at least when we say cheating day it will be only 1 day and not constantly because that will be the start of addiction.

allocating right amount is indeed and exceeding is always normal but to the point that you said 1 hour and stays whole day?that is not normal because the time deficit is too far from the original plan.

I am still a student though but somehow I feel what the OP said. The responsibility is bigger than what we play, than what we gamble. In addition, some of chronic gamblers are rich that is why they are not worrying on what is about to happen because of overspending. Such thing may imply for gambler who are not that wealthy to disregard such issues. That is why disciplined must always be in their heads.

I don't have a family (yet) but I'm self-responsible for my own finance. I only spend on gambling when I have extra money, only small amount, maybe just enough to buy some new clothes. Thankfully gambling has never lead me to a financial problem.

In short, be a responsible gambler. That's the point of OP and to avoid those unexpected consequences of a gambler's shortcoming, you should be more prepared of it and you know what you're doing.

There are people that keeps on telling that gambling is bad because they only see it as a bad habit due to the person involve can't control himself. But as long as you can sustain yourself, your family and you are not neglecting your responsibilities, I think you're okay.

This is definitely true. Wrong decisions could ruin not just ourselves but our family as well. We should know how to put a limit especially when it comes to the number of funds that we're spending on gambling. We should allocate enough for our necessities first before we allocate something for gambling because there's still no assurance that we can gain a good profit through it. If we'll not control our emotions and discipline ourselves, we'll regret things in the end.

This is the reason why there is a saying "gamble only amount that you can afford to lose". Yes I agree with "family first before anything else". But let me ask you this, how many of you are doing other vices like smoking? I know a cigarette is less expensive than betting online but look, you are still spending something that is not going to help your health, not going to help your finances, not going to help your family, but yet you still do it. There are other expenses that we can take away from our life but we still keep it because for us its ok, another example is Starbucks coffee, I am so guilty of this, I can drink coffee without spending $3 a cup but yet I still go to Starbucks. If I can afford to lose 5% of my salary each month in gambling, I guess that's ok than doing something that will not benefit my family as well.

I never toy with the money meant to cater for my family and probably use it for gambling this amount to taking a risk beyond my control, this is absolutely uncalled for, I only gamble with as little as 5% of my total income thus I wouldn't bother in case losing my bets, it is a pity reading stories of people using their whole lot monthly salaries, selling their houses etc to gamble after losing they resorted to committing suicide, gambling should an extra source income played for fun.

You have a point with this. I feel pity for those people who are still gambling even though they don't have enough money to sustain their daily needs. I feel pity for those people who are considered poor already but still they are gambling hoping that their money will be doubled or tripled.

The reason behind it is that they are now just hopeless and trying out their luck if it could work for them to escape poverty. Though my own perception of the right thing to do is to not rely on gambling for personal living. You should only gamble if you have more than enough that you don't know where this money should be spent. But being poor and still approaching gambling will just make you poorer and poorer and will not do you any good at all.

I think that we all gamble a bit because it is in human nature to always ask for more and when we can’t get something we want we look for alternative solutions which are not healthy most of the time like gambling.
Anyone who gambled has crossed the line at least once before becoming more self aware.I only set aside for gambling a really low amount of only 25-50 dollars a month and I stick to it.All my payroll goes to support my family.

nice iniative . thanks for lecturing us that gambling is bad if its your going over on your limits . we should spend more time on our family because they are more important than gambling but its not bad to gambling if ever you have done your obligiations on your family . in my case i only gamble at night but in the morning i help my wife to do the house chores and also by doing her business in the store . i also play with my child . im only doing my job as a good husband .

We can't stop them because that what they wanted to do, and to those who've been addicted it won't happen if they don't allow themselves to fall on that situation. Self control can be applied if you're willing to take it personally, but it's not effective if a person isn't willing to adjust. That's making it harder to acquire, once you can't even manage your money for gambling needs.

Your wife will kill you if you allocate more on gambling, I only fund my gambling when I already allocate my family's basic needs, I'm not allocating big funds to gambling, just enough to keep me going and have some fun for at least an hour or two, that is why my family is supporting me in my gambling activities because know that I can take care of myself.

Those poor people who spend all of their funds in gambling are not playing gambling for the fun. There intent is to change their fortune and help their families by winning something big. Their aim is right but way of working is wrong. Because if they lose in gambling, then the small money which they have with them will also be gone making their troubles more.
